Chapter 5

Consciousness came back to me. I heard the sound of a door slamming, echoing throughout the apartment as well as the hallway.

But I slept for too long and sat up from the bed without standing up as if my limbs didn’t know how to move.

I came back to my senses when the door lock "snapped" on the floor.

Who was it?

Was it the kidnapper? Or was it Jeffrey? I searched the room for something to defend myself with but found nothing.

So I got up to go downstairs. I panicked, lost my footing, and fell with only a step or two left.

"Audrey!"

A clear voice rang out. I looked up to see Kash carrying a shopping bag, standing outside my house, panting and nervous.

He rushed over to help me up. "Are you okay?"

I was confused.

Outside the door, a locksmith changed a new lock and then put the tools into the backpack.

"Your boyfriend knocked for two hours, and you did not respond. He is worried."

I held my head with one hand, drowsy and sleepy.
