Kylie's POV
Putting down my wine glass, my eyes wander around the glittering ballroom, trying to locate my mate. I had been sitting here for a while now, but he was nowhere to be found, even though he had invited me here himself. Just as I was debating whether to go look for him for the third time, Mia, my best friend, muttered beside me. "Look at him." Face twisted with disgust, she scoffed. "Making out with that hussy in public when he had a mate at home. Poor woman, she just bore him twins two weeks ago, and yet, here he was…” I followed her gaze, and my stomach churned. A tall male wolf had a younger she-wolf on his lap, one hand on her waist, the other inside her shirt while his head was pressed against her nape, clearly taking in her scent. I recognized the man, Jace. He was married, and I had met his mate. She was a lovely beauty: sweet, soft-spoken and kind. She had also once given me food when my stepmother hid the foodstuff. "What a bastard.” I couldn't help but sigh. It was indeed always the good ones who got cheated on. "They're all like this lately," Mia said, not bothering to keep her voice down. She glared at him with fire in her eyes. "Half the males in this pack treat their mates like temporary toys, claiming they're polygamous by nature. Just thinking about it is giving me a headache." And she was right. As absurd as that might sound, the males had indeed grown more condescending lately. Mia's older sister hadn't been spared either. Her mate had eloped with a young omega just after she got pregnant. I'm sure Jace could hear us. He glanced our way, both arms now under the she-wolf's shirt, the outline of his hands clearly visible on her chest. "Monogamy is for women, not us. We male wolves can't be satisfied with one woman," he murmured, kissing the woman's neck. "How can anyone be content eating the same meal every day?" ‘Scumbag,' my wolf, Rain, muttered. I couldn't agree more. I refuted his words. "That's a lie.” He looked over at me, and I saw the amusement in his eyes as he smirked. "Oh yeah? You think your fairy-tale love story's going to last? Wait until your mate gets bored. Then you'll see I was right." I opened my mouth to argue, but Mia beat me to it, her voice confident. "Not everyone can't keep their dick in their pants like you. Ky's mate is going to propose to her tonight. They'll have their happily ever after." "Really?" Jace's smirk widened, his eyes crinkling. "Yes!" Mia replied firmly. He chuckled, and just when I was wondering what he found so funny, he pointed toward a random corner of the room. “Isn't that your mate?" I instinctively followed his gaze. My brows furrowed, there was no one there. I scowled. “Was your eyesight working wrong now?” "Oh... they walk quite fast. It's not easy to hold it in," he flashed me a knowing smile. "Your boyfriend just passed through there with a beautiful companion. Isn't that surprising?" “What the fuck are you talking about?" Mia snapped, her voice rising. Even I myself was about to smash a glass at him. "Well, believe me or not. I'm sure you'll find out soon." Whatever he was saying, I was sure it was garbage. Still, I had been looking for Cole for nearly thirty minutes. He had specifically told me he was here, but like a needle in a haystack, he was nowhere to be found. I'd tried contacting him, but he wasn't answering his phone. It wouldn't hurt to go look for him in that direction, even though he wasn't the type to admire flowers. What if he had gotten lost after one caught his eyes? Telling Mia to wait, I went toward the direction Jace had pointed. It was the garden. And as I had expected, he wasn't there. So I turned around, ready to leave. But then, I heard some strange noises. My steps froze as the sounds grew clearer. "Ahhh... it's too big... mmm... slow down a bit... I-I can't take it anymore..." I shook my head, my cheeks burning with embarrassment. What the fuck? Can't they just go home if they want to have sex? "Hunnnn, your cock is too big, Cole... slow down, please..." I froze. My eyes widened and my head whipped in the direction of that voice. Cole? That was my mate's name... And he was the only one I knew who bore that name. Or did I mishear? My heart pounded like it wanted to escape my ribcage. My stomach churned with panic. I moved toward the voice, needing to be sure. Even if I had misheard, I had to see for myself. I lifted the hem of my silver gown, the best dress I owned, worn specifically for tonight and ran forward. And lo and behold, two figures were intertwined against the garden wall. I could only see the man's back, his pale white butt in the air as he rammed into the woman in front of him. My legs gave out beneath me. I felt my wolf cry out in despair. "Co—Cole?" I called out shakily, my face ashen, my whole body trembling with disbelief. My word stopped the adulterers, and the man turned around. The world blurred, and I saw stars. Deep inside another woman, was none other than my boyfriend and mate of five years, Cole. "Wh-what are you doing?" What was I even asking? It was obvious. He was fucking another woman after telling me to get ready for a proposal tonight. I gritted my teeth, tears welling up in my eyes, but I refused to let them fall. Jace... that scumbag had been right. "Ahhh." I clutched my chest, feeling suffocated. My wolf kept crying, calling out for hers. Just like me, she was hurt. This betrayal came out of nowhere. “Kylie...?" The woman he was with turned around, and I stumbled back in shock at the sight of the familiar face. My voice trembled with rage. "Yo–You're cheating on me with my step mother?! How could you do this to me?! Have you forgotten that I'm your mate?! Was that why you asked me to come here?! To humiliate me?!" "Stop shouting," Cole said, frowning. "Ahhhh!" I screamed, my voice rising uncontrollably. "You son of a bitch! I've been with you for five years! Five fucking whole years! And this is how you repay me? By screwing my step-mom?! Bastard and a fucking two-faced whore, you two are a perfect match!" "Ky–Kylie..." My nostrils flared with fury as I glared at the woman who made my father despise my mother, which led to their divorce, and somehow actually now come in between me and my mate. Lucy Jones — I hate this woman. I fucking hate her with every fiber of my being. She despised me too, but it was the least of my expectation that she would sleep with my mate. "I'm not a whore... I was just helping your mate," she muttered, biting her lip, her eyes watering as if I had wronged her. I've had enough of this two-faced bitch! I've really had enough. Despite her being my stepmother, she was actually just two years older than me. She ruined my parents' decades of marriage by enjoying her first heat with my father, and now, seven years later, with only two months after my father's death, she was entangled with my fiancé! But to my shock, Cole fell for it. He actually fell for it. He pulled her into his arms and glared at me. "Don't you dare call her that again." "To hell with you!" My eyes landed on a nearby glass of red wine. Without thinking, I picked it up and smashed it at the shameless pair. "Ky—What's—" Mia rushed up, her eyes wide as they took in the scene. Jace also appeared behind her, the she-wolf still clinging to him, both of them smirking. They were mocking me. Damn it! So much for claiming a faithful male wolf existed. I clenched my fists and looked back at Cole, who now had the audacity to look angry. "How could you threw that glass at us? You hurt Lucy!" He was blaming me? His shamelessness was astounding. A small crowd had gathered now, drawn in by the commotion. Lucy whimpered, tearing up. "My foot... it hurts..." I looked down at the shard of glass, sure enough, one had pierced her foot, but no blood yet. I scoffed. “Your skin is indeed thick! No wonder you're so shameless.” My words infuriated Cole. He scooped Lucy into his arms, glaring at me. The love I once saw in his eyes whenever he looked at me was gone. All that remained was cold, bitter hatred. My heart shattered again, but I refused to show it. I bit my lip hard, unwilling to back down. But what came next made me freeze, my heart turning numb. "I, Cole King, sever the mate-bond with you, Kylie Edwards."Thanks for checking this book out. Please add it to your library if you enjoy it.
Kylie's POVSarah arrived. That annoying old woman who treated Cole like he was her biological grandson, which meant no matter what he did—even if he killed someone—she'd still see him as a sweetheart. He could never do anything wrong in her eyes.I remembered when I first got into a relationship with Cole and visited his villa while she was around. She made it so obvious that she disliked me, and wouldn’t stop making several mean and unnecessary comments, including calling me “motherless” and “mannerless” just because I didn’t fold the napkin the way she wanted. The sting of that word still sat somewhere in my chest, like a wound that refused to heal. She didn’t even try to hide her sneer when she said it—like she wanted it to break me.And maybe back then, it did.I would always cry back then, and I also told Cole about it. But what did he say?He said he treated her as a mother, so I needed to, too, which simply meant I had to pretend I didn't hear her cruel words—smile even when s
Kylie's POVMy fingers curled into a fist, but I only sneered on the surface. "Nothing."He shook his head. "That thoughtful look..." He stood, tilting his head as he approached me.I didn't step back as he continued to close in, like he wanted to terrify me with his height. I met his firm gaze while he enclosed me.Then his lips curled into a smirk, and he lifted my chin.My skin crawled with disgust at standing this close to him, and I had to hold my breath so I wouldn't give in to the urge to make a mess on him."Will you just back off?" I whispered, grimacing. For some reason, I thought I could detect a pungent smell on him.Who knows. He's a piece of shit, so it wasn't surprising that he smelled like one. Then he leaned in.Is he crazy?I thought he might be teasing me until he got closer and closer, and I swore I could feel his breath on me, on my lips. "Are you ill?" I swatted his hand away from my chin, stomping on his foot before backing away.He stared down at me, his expre
Kylie's POVWith that, I stood up again. "Well, wishing you the best of luck in finding him."But just like earlier, the moment I was about to reach the door, the men blocked me again."Tell them to let me go.""Why should I?"I yelled, "You literally promised to, just a while ago!"He smiled. "I didn't, though."My eyes widened. I wanted to say he did, but his knowing smile made me remember he had only hummed in reply when I spoke earlier. The realization weakened me.This bastard is really impossible, isn't he?"You're still as gullible as ever. I'm quite disappointed, huh," he commented, running his hand through his hair.He glanced at one of the men. "Go bring it over."I watched in confusion as the man bowed, left, and then came back out a few minutes later.Wait...What's that?A card?He handed it to Cole, who beckoned me forward."What's in there?" I refused to move an inch, but he only shrugged."Wouldn't you know after you check it out?"In the end, I still ended up walking
Kylie's POVMy chest heaved as I finished talking, glaring at him.I didn't care about the consequences or anything. I just wanted to say bye to this goddamn place. His gaze was fixed on me, unflinching even at my outburst. He genuinely looked like he was enjoying this, and that infuriated me further."What? Cat got your goddamn tongue? Is it that hard to make these damn sons of bitches leave my face? Or wait... you can't really give them orders? Either way, you're pathetic and useless.""Are you done?" he uncrossed his legs, his expression slowly turning serious. If looks could kill, from the ones I've been giving him so far, he'd be six feet under already — I wished so too. Unfortunately, that wasn't a prayer that could be easily answered. He said in a tone that left no room for argument, "If you're done, come sit down and finish watching this."I almost spat out blood from the fury building in my chest."You—" I had no idea what to say again. Rather, I couldn't even get the words
Kylie's POVThe screen blinked to life, an almost cinematic sound emitting from it. In the beginning, I couldn't see what was going on, but a few seconds later the images slowly began to form.Men in the dark were kicking at something, or someone; their movements were cruel and rough, and even without being there, I felt a chill run down my spine watching this.I could see the blood on the fallen figure; he was huge, even in his human form, and finally the men stepped back. One of them panned the camera to him.My heart leapt to my throat when I saw the familiar face.Elijah!I instinctively called, but no one responded. The man being hit violently was him. My insides shook, and my body trembled before I even realized it.I gritted my teeth and turned to Cole with burning eyes. "What did you do to him?"He brushed his hands through his hair for the umpteenth time, grinning like my predicament—or the one in the video—was something to be laughed at."And yet, you asked another question.
Kylie’s POVHe smirked, setting down the wine glass in his hand, then combed through his hair—an action that made me cringe inwardly. What the fuck is this motherfucker doing?I watched with bated breath as he stayed silent for a long while, then chuckled."Well... she asked me another question... so," his eyes went to his men, and he commanded, "Slap her!"The man instantly raised his hand again, but Cole suddenly said, "Stop."The slap I was prepared for didn’t land, and I turned to him, biting my lip.Did he finally regain some compassion?"There’s another alternative to the hits.""Wh—" I hissed as I caught myself. Then I looked him in the eyes and said nothing."Take a piece of your clothes off.""What the fuck?" I couldn’t help the curse that escaped my lips. Was he being for real right now?He shrugged. "Two slaps now, or two pieces of clothes."I went silent, like I was considering the crap that just left his dirty mouth. No, I wasn’t.I would never allow this bastard to see m
