Damian

I blinked.

Her voice was so soft, I almost convinced myself I imagined it.

“I liked it,” she’d said.

My mind staggered under the weight of it. Of all the things I thought she’d say, that wasn’t one of them. The words rang in my ears, bounced in my chest like something untamed—wild and beautiful and terrifying.

“I didn’t think you would,” I murmured, voice catching. I couldn’t bring myself to meet her eyes. “And you don’t have to say that just to soothe my ego, Alina.”

My throat tightened as I dragged a hand down my face, trying to gain control over my heartbeat. It didn’t work. I was flailing in a moment that was far too intimate, too vulnerable for the safe distance I usually kept between us. I didn’t mean to get carried away earlier—to lean in like that, to breathe her in like I couldn’t help myself. But I had. And the worst part? I hadn’t regretted it.

Now she was telling me she’d liked it.

I couldn’t understand her. And that scared me more than anything else.

DamianThe next morning, the corridors felt heavier than usual as I stepped out into the gray stillness that hovered like smoke through the halls. My boots echoed against the marble, dull and rhythm-less, the sound not even reaching the corners of my thoughts.I barely noticed the servants who passed me—some bowing slightly, others pretending not to notice me at all. Fine. I didn’t have the patience for forced pleasantries today. My mind was still stuck on her—Alina. The way she’d stood tall despite everything, the way her voice didn’t shake even as she admitted her fears. Her determination clung to my ribs like ivy, tightening with every breath. She wanted to prove herself. She wanted to fight, not run. I admired it. And yet, I hated that she needed to. That she even felt she had to. That it had come to this. I hadn’t wanted any of it, hadn’t planned for any of it—but here we were, caught in a storm neither of us had called.Lucas leaned against the cold stone just outside the Alpha’

AlinaI wouldn’t have been able to kiss him back before he pulled away from me. His fingers, warm and steady, brushed softly against my cheeks as if afraid to break something fragile. His eyes—those piercing wolf-gold eyes—never left mine. I felt them digging into me, seeing through everything I was trying to hold together. Then he whispered, his voice rough and low like a secret meant only for me, “I’m trying to protect you.”I frowned, confusion knitting my brow. “Protect me?” I echoed, barely above a whisper, trying to steady my voice even though it trembled with frustration.“Damien, I’ve never taken anything you’ve done for me for granted. But I’d appreciate it more if you actually had faith in me. In what I can do.” My voice grew sharper, the ache inside turning to something harder. “I’m tired, Damien. Tired of being seen as weak when it’s convenient, and only ‘worthy’ when you need me.”He opened his mouth, like he wanted to say something more, but the words caught in his throa

AlinaI swallowed hard as I stepped into Damian’s office. The air was cool, too cool, and the quiet inside only made my skin prickle more. It felt like walking into a memory I’d tried so hard to forget—the suffocating silence of my parents’ house, the invisible weight of judgment hanging in every corner. My feet faltered slightly, but I kept moving.Damian hadn’t looked at me once. Not even when he closed the door behind us. He walked straight to his desk like I wasn’t even there, sat down, and began flipping through some paperwork, his pen scratching against the paper with maddening ease.I stood there, stiff and awkward, unsure if I should sit or speak or disappear. Then, suddenly—"How was your day?"I blinked. The question hit me so unexpectedly, it took me a second to remember how to speak.“It was… fine,” I lied, voice too quick, too light. He didn’t even pause to look up. Just nodded softly as he continued scribbling on whatever document he was working on.The quiet stretched ag

AlinaI was still reeling from the way Damian had changed his mind. One minute he looked like he couldn’t stand to be near me, and the next, he’d told me I could train. Just like that. I didn’t know what had triggered the shift—maybe guilt, maybe pity, or maybe something else entirely—but I wasn’t going to question it. I was grateful.Grateful… and terrified.I wanted to tell him that I was scared. That everyone had always told me I was weak. That I wasn’t built for training or fighting or anything remotely useful. That I’d been raised to be quiet, to shrink myself, to stay in the background. That I didn’t belong in the training ring with warriors who had been doing this since they could walk. But the words stuck in my throat like thorns. When Warrior Lita appeared and called my name with a warm smile, I lost my chance. I shot Damian a hesitant look, but he’d already turned away, his expression unreadable as ever. And so I buried my thoughts and followed her.Lita led me into a side r

DamianI didn’t know how to stop kissing her.Didn’t know how to pull myself out of the heat pooling low in my stomach, the taste of her still fresh on my tongue, her scent wrapping around my thoughts like chains I couldn’t break even if I wanted to.And I didn’t.I didn’t want to stop.My hand gripped her waist. Her skin was soft beneath my palm, trembling slightly, rising with each breath that hitched between us. Every part of me wanted more. More of her mouth, more of her body, more of that sound she made when I dragged my lips down her neck. I wanted to drown in her. Sink in deep and never come back up.But when she shifted beneath me, her hips adjusting slightly—God—it snapped something loose in my mind. What the hell am I doing?I blinked hard, like maybe the room would stop spinning if I just pulled myself out of the moment. Her eyes were still closed, her lips parted, and that look on her face—that soft, open vulnerability that made my chest ache—it hit me like a blow to the ri
