Chapter 04
Kenzo let out a slight scoff, dropped his jacket on the hanger, took off his shoes and walked away to the bathroom, leaving Helena hanging. Helena let out a sigh and dropped the book. She looked down at her gown, "I guess this won't do the job" She muttered, then yanked it off, leaving her in her panties and her upper body naked. 'I should get something more seductive' She thought as she walked over to the closet. "Hmm, let's see" She muttered as she began going through the clothes in an orderly manner. She yanked out a bra, holding it up like it was an auction. "This isn't mine?" She questioned with a confused look on. "What are you doing?" Kenzo suddenly asked from behind making her turn swiftly, completely forgetting she was naked, not like she cared. But maybe Kenzo did cause he went red immediately with his eyes widening slowly in shock. Helena raised her brows suspiciously as she approached him, still holding the bra up, but Kenzo was still embarrassed and in shock to notice whatever she was holding. All he could see were her breasts bouncing right in his face. "Whose is this? I know definitely well it's not mine" Helena questioned, folding her arms on her pointed breasts, poking it down. Kenzo snapped out of it and raised his gaze to her face, and then to the bra. "Should be yours from six years ago, and if it's not, I have no idea" He said, then walked away to the dressing table to dry his hair. Helena smiled and dropped the bra to the bed and she walked over to him, then suddenly placed her hands on his arms startling him as he froze for a minute. She didn't give him a chance to recover as she trailed her hands over his shoulder, then up to his neck, and down. She inserted her hand inside his robe, caressing his chest seductively. " I guess it's your girlfriend's.." She said, still smiling, then gently swirl the chair over and sat on his laps in an instant. "And I think I don't need to put on a bra to seduce you.. " She said, caressing his chest harder. "Right?" She asked, arching her left brow. Kenzo chuckled, making her raise her brows higher. "Get off me Helena" He said, his tone sharp and swift. She got off, straightened her posture, her brows raised in surprise at his reaction, or not, it was expected. She wasn't expecting him to just accept her back with open arms. Kenzo dropped the air dryer, grabbed his phone and keys from the bedside drawer, and while heading straight to the door, "I'll be sleeping in the other room, you can have this room." He said. Helena"s eyes popped in surprise and she pushed to him. "Why?" She questioned, grabbing his arm. He shoved her hands off, with his brows raised and is face twisting in annoyance. "What do you think you're doing?" "What do you.." "Why the fuvk are you back here, Helena? And on top of that.. " he stared down at her exposed chest. "What is this? Leaving and coming back after six years without no fucking word, and you.. " He scoffed in annoyance. "You're trying to seduce me??" He asked in genuine annoyance, his face twisting in anger. "Well.. "Just go straight to the point Helena, the whole tryna get back shit, I ain't falling for it. Tell me why you're here, and do not sugarcoat it, Helena. You being here already is an hindrance, and I can't stand you doing some stupid shits like this too annoy me the more" Kenzo spat out in anger. Helena took a step backwards, straightened her posture and let out a sigh. "Kenzo..." She tried reaching out to him but she stepped backwards. "Okay, see.. I genuinely want to make things right again.." Kenzo turned and began to walk out. "Let's have a baby!" Kenzo stopped right on his tracks, frozen and completely taken aback. Helena covered the space between them, and stood right in front of him. Reaching out to his hands, "Let's have a baby please, Kenzo" She muttered. **** The morning light filtered through the blinds of Kenzo's office, casting a soft glow over the polished wood of his desk. The hum of the city outside was muffled, but within these walls, everything was still—silent, cold. His eyes were fixed on the documents in front of him, but his mind was elsewhere, tangled in the conversation he had with Helena last night. He couldn't shake the image of her—standing there, practically bare in front of him, her words a mix of desperation and calculated seduction. "Let's have a baby," she had said, her voice almost pleading, as though this was the key to unlocking the door between them. Kenzo ran a hand through his hair, exhaling sharply. The memory of her words echoed in his mind, gnawing at him, even as he tried to focus on the piles of work that awaited his attention. What was she really after? He couldn't make sense of it. Was this just another game? A manipulation to get him to open up, to feel something, anything for her again? Or was it genuine? He leaned back in his chair, closing his eyes for a moment, trying to distance himself from the thoughts swirling in his head. But the harder he tried to push them away, the clearer they became. The sound of her voice, the way she had stood there, as if daring him to deny her, still rang in his ears. Why now? Why after all these years? The door to his office creaked open, interrupting his thoughts. Kenzo opened his eyes, already annoyed at the intrusion, but when he saw his assistant, he quickly masked his frustration behind a tight smile. "Morning, sir," she said, holding a stack of papers in her hands. "The meeting with the board is in an hour. And the investors from Tokyo are arriving soon." Kenzo nodded, barely acknowledging her as she set the papers down on his desk. His mind was still half-occupied with Helena, her sudden return, and her unexpected plea. What the hell was I supposed to do with that? As his assistant began to speak again, Kenzo’s thoughts drifted back to the conversation with Helena—where it had ended, how it had made him feel. "Let's have a baby, please Kenzo" Helena muttered, her eyes almost pleading. She looked desperate, it was the second time he had ever seen her that way, the first time being the last time he saw her - when she had to leave due to her dad being sick. "What?" Kenzo's lips were finally able to move, and his mouth was finally able to produce a word. "A baby? Just one, please Kenzo" Helena said again. Desperate, she almost sounded desperate. What was going on? He was shocked, his emotions clouded. He couldn't think straight for a second. She wanted them to have a baby? Just like that. He barely knew her anymore. The Helena he dated and got married to, despite her features and certain characteristics not changing, she still didn't feel like her. She changed, a lot. And her feelings sure did too. Those were his thoughts six years ago, but her right now, the Helena standing and almost desperately begging before him, made him think, for a split moment that he had been wrong for the past six years. She didn't change. She just never loved him. And now she wanted his child?Chapter 46Sleep With Me, Dear HusbandThe door clicked softly as Helena stepped into the apartment, her fingers curling around the edge of the frame. She hadn’t been here in weeks. The familiar scent; a blend of cedarwood and something uniquely Kenzo, washed over her like a warm tide. Home. She took a breath and moved further inside, her feet cushioned by the plush rugs he’d added since her last stay. Her gaze scanned the space: clean, quiet, lived-in. Yet, something felt… different. The lights had been dimmed, replaced by the soft flicker of candles spread across the room. Gentle instrumental music played in the background, and the faint scent of fresh lilies hung in the air. Her favorite.“Kenzo?” she called out, voice still a little hoarse from recovery. No answer. She took another step forward and spotted the low table in the living room. A small covered dish sat in the center, next to a bottle of chilled sparkling grape juice and two glasses. Her brows lifted. Then she saw it; a
Chapter 45Peace and PromisesThe soft hum of the hospital room lingered in the early morning light. Rays of sun filtered through the blinds, casting faint stripes across the white walls and Helena’s peaceful face. Her chest rose and fell in a rhythm that Kenzo had come to memorize over the past few weeks; slow, fragile, but steady.Kenzo sat slouched in the chair beside her bed, his hand still loosely wrapped around hers from the night before. The crumpled letter lay folded in his jacket pocket, though its words echoed relentlessly in his mind. She stirred. His eyes snapped open, posture straightening instantly. Her fingers twitched beneath his, and then her lashes fluttered. Slowly, she blinked her way into consciousness, the pale amber light warming her skin.“Hey,” she whispered, her voice weak but familiar.Kenzo leaned closer. “Hey.”For a second, neither said anything. There was no need to.Her gaze drifted to their joined hands. “You stayed.”“Of course I stayed.”Helena’s lip
Chapter 44Her Goodbye LetterThe room was quiet, lit only by the soft glow of evening seeping through sheer curtains. The machines by Helena’s bedside beeped with slow precision, each pulse a quiet reminder of her fragility. She was resting, finally, after a grueling round of treatment. Her breathing had steadied, but her frame still looked too delicate against the white sheets.Kenzo sat in the corner, arms resting on his knees, head bowed. He hadn’t meant to find the letter. It had fallen from between the pages of one of her old sketchbooks, the one tucked into her suitcase that Gianna had dropped off earlier. At first, he thought it was just another set of notes. She often wrote when she couldn’t sleep. But the second he saw his name in her handwriting, just his name on the front of a sealed envelope, his chest clenched. To Kenzo, in case I don’t get the chance to say it in person. He had stared at it for a full minute before peeling it open, hands trembling. Now, letter in hand,
Chapter 43The Last StandThe conference room was brighter than Helena remembered.Glass walls let the midday sun spill across the sleek marble floors, casting sharp lines and reflections. Her company’s emblem gleamed on the far wall, once a symbol of pride. Today, it felt heavier, like a name she was about to surrender.Helena sat at the head of the long oval table, papers stacked neatly before her, fingers clasped to still their tremble. Around her sat the board of directors, her department heads, and a few key shareholders. Aaron’s seat was conspicuously filled, though his posture leaned back in smug anticipation.Kenzo stood by the door.He wasn’t here as a businessman or a representative. He was here for her. Just her.The hum of low conversation faded as Helena stood.“Thank you all for being here,” she began, her voice clear but soft. “This meeting wasn’t scheduled, but it is necessary.”Her eyes swept the room. Many of these faces had doubted her return. Some still did. But it
Chapter 42Confronting the TruthKenzo barely slept. The night had dragged into the kind of dawn that felt more like dusk. The hospital room smelled like antiseptic and anxiety. Helena had drifted in and out of sleep, murmuring now and then, but she hadn’t said much else.He stayed beside her until the morning light began to cut through the blinds, casting pale gold across her still figure. His fingers had remained curled loosely around hers, but his mind was elsewhere, swirling, clawing at the puzzle she refused to let him solve.Something was wrong.More than just exhaustion. More than fainting. And he needed answers.By mid-morning, he stepped out of the room, giving himself space to think. Or maybe to breathe. The hospital’s side lobby was quiet. He called Alec.“Come to the hospital,” Kenzo said flatly. “Bring Gianna. Now.”Alec and Gianna arrived within the hour. Kenzo was already waiting in one of the consultation rooms, pacing. When they stepped inside, he didn’t waste a secon
Chapter 41Lines CrossedThe air inside the event hall buzzed with anticipation. Journalists, executives, and stakeholders filled the marble space, camera lights blinking like stars. Kenzo’s company was unveiling its latest eco-conscious skyscraper project, and Helena had played a silent but powerful hand in organizing the event. Even after everything, after the quiet days apart and the unanswered calls—she had followed through on her promise to help him redeem the company’s image. She stood by the stage, just off to the side, dressed in a sleek cream pantsuit that contrasted the deep green of the backdrop. Her heels were planted firm, shoulders squared, smile composed. No one could tell that her legs ached, that her breathing was shallow, that she hadn’t slept the night before. She wouldn’t let them see. From the other side of the room, Kenzo’s eyes caught hers for the briefest second. He wasn’t supposed to be looking at her, but he was. Not with warmth, just with guarded curiosity.
