Chapter 03
The all turned to see the last person expected, standing right beside Kenzo was his wife, Helena dressed in a red sleeveless dress with a red lipstick on, matching her red heels. "Are you interested in the deal or not, Mrs. Laine" She said with a smirk. "Why are you ganging up on my man with your girls?" She completed, dropping the smirk and slipping her arms around Kenzo's. They all looked at the act and Karen let out a smile, Helena's stern gaze still on her. "Of course, I am" She smiled and walked over to them, closing the distance between them. She dipped her hands into her bag and slipped it inside Kenzo's front pocket. "Call me" She said with a gentle smile before passing Helena one last glance and then walked away. Helena let out a tiny smirk and then raised her brows at the other ladies still left at the scene. They smiled, then walked away. All these while Kenzo has his eyes on his wife, without removing them off her throughout the little interaction she had just had with them. He was seeing her for the first time three years, the last time he saw her was three years ago at his dad's birthday party. It's been five years since they got married and he barely see her, only once in every two years by chance. Helena slipped out her arms from his and turned to him with a smile. "Hey.." "What are you doing here?" He cut her off. Helena smiled further. "Just thought of helping you out. You?" She asked. He arched his brows. "What are you doing here? You don't attend the dinner parties every year, why now? For her?" "You attend every year?" Kenzo asked, ignoring her question. Helena straightened her posture. "Yep. I do. Never seen you" "So, did you come here to get her to invest in your new branch? Heard you're opening one in Canada next year, is she.." "So you do come home every year.." Kenzo cut her off, his gaze never leaving her, not even once as he stared at her blankly. Helena paused, staring at him intently, trying to read his expression but she couldn't. "Yeah, I do. Why?" She questioned, summoning a smile on her face. "Nothing." Kenzo straightened his posture, slipping his hands into his pockets. "See you later or whenever you decide to show up again." He said and walked away at once, without looking back at her. "See you ma'am" Gianna bowed lowly before hurrying after her boss. Helena let out a slight smirk. "Arielle" She called and Arielle came forward immediately. "Report to me what he's up to" She said and Arielle let out a nod. And that was the last time he had laid his eyes on her till now. For the past two years, he had attended the dinner party despite having no reason to, he had hoped to lay his eyes on his wife just once again, even if they didn't have any interaction. But she never came or he just never saw her. Until now, sitting right before him was his wife of six years old marriage sipping her juice, her red lipstick staining the glass cup slightly. She seemed carefree, like everything was okay between them, like she hadn't just disappeared from his life for six years, with no idea of what he ever did wrong. "Why are you here, Helena?" Kenzo cut to the chase. Despite years of not seeing or speaking to her, her name still rolled out of his lips easily and as sweet as it always sounded and that placed a smile on Helena's lips. She dropped her glass elegantly, crossed her legs and leaned back on the chair. They were in a vip restaurant. "What do you think Kenzo? Why am I here?" She asked, arching her brows and a silly smirk playing on her lips. Kenzo let out a tiny scoff, took a quick glance at his watch which caught Helena's attention, and she deepened her arched brow. "I don't know. You tell me.." Kenzo said, looking up at her. "And make it quick, I have things to do" He completed. Helena smiled. He was playing hard to get, she thought. "I'm back Kenzo, to Florida, as your wife. What do you think? Doesn't that sounds nice?" She said, smiling widely. Kenzo only stared on, uninterested. "Yeah? And why is that?" He questioned with a raised brow. "Because it's where I ought to be. I'm your wife Kenzo. And I thought you wanted me to come back?" She questioned, her expression now getting stern. Kenzo let out a chuckle. He took his glass of wine to his mouth and took a sip, ignoring Helena's last inquiry. Helena smiled suddenly and then stood up. She walked over to his side making Kenzo look up at her wondering what she was up to. "Hmm.. seems someone's mad at me" She pouted and sat on his laps taking him by surprise and he inwardly jerked backwards pushing Helena further on his laps. Helena smiled further before placing her lips on his gently. The whole world seemed to stop at that moment, Kenzo freezed and couldn't move. The last time he felt the coverage of someone's lips on his was exactly six years ago, and that was exactly when Helena left and never came back to him. He forgot what she tasted like. Cherry. His lips couldn't make any movement while Helena feasted on his lips, she bit his lips earning a silent groan for him, giving her access into his mouth. She sucked on his lower lips, pulling him closer with her hands hanging on his shoulders. He still wasn't giving in, he wasn't kissing her back. She was disappointed. She tried using another method when someone interrupted them and that seemed to snap Kenzo back to his senses as he pushed her off, not hard enough to make her fall. He got on his feet immediately and straightened his posture while Helena licked her lips and sat on his seat, placing her elbow on the desk, resting it on her head while facing him with a smile on her face. Gianna cleared her throat awkwardly. "Sirr.." Kenzo looked at her. "They're at the office now" She reported. "Okay" He answered and took his phone from the table. "Get the car ready, we leave now" He said and Gianna nodded. He gave a last glance to Helena. "Do whatever you want" He said before walking away with Gianna. Helena let out a smile and took a piece of steak in her mouth. *Next Day* Kenzo sat in his office reviewing some paperwork when the door suddenly pushed open without notice. Kenzo looked up from his work obviously bothered to see Kelly walk in nonchalantly with Gianna rushing in behind her. "Ma'am, please stay out" She tried touching her but Kelly slapped her hands off. "Kelly, Stop." Kenzo said, dropping the documents in his hands. Kelly smiled as she approached him. She sat on the chair opposite him. "You can leave" Kenzo muttered and Gianna bowed before exiting his office. Kenzo resumed his paperwork without sparing her a glance. Kelly let out a huff and brought out her phone to play with it. She was used to him not paying no attention to her and she couldn't care less. Kelly Kim is 25 and despite Kenzo being eight years older she's been obsessed with Kenzo from the first day she set her eyes on him, and that happened to be five years ago. She could almost have committed suicide when she found out he was married and had no chance. She's a family friend which means she had easy access to the Alfredo company. She would come once ever week just to be in the same space as Kenzo even if he barely acknowledged her presence. The door suddenly pushed open disrupting the absolute silence. Kelly turned around to see who she had never thought she would meet. It was Kenzo's wife, her rival, or not since she barely stood a chance. Helena stood still for some seconds accessing the situation before her before she stepped in with a smile plastered on her face. She was in her usual dress fit, but this time around more casual. It was a red sleeveless top with a black skirt which rested above her knees. She walked over to Kenzo's side and rested a part of her bum on his desk. "Hey babe" She said and tried to kiss his lips but he turned and it landed on his cheeks. "What are you doing here?" Kenzo asked, tearing his gaze away from her and back to picking up the paperwork he had dropped. "What do you mean? I came to see your face" Helena said with a smile. She turned to face Kelly who was watching the scene unfold. "And this is?.." she trailed off, her fingers dangling at Kely's face. "Your cuz?" She asked, turning to Kenzo. Kelly let out a scoff and got on her feet. She marched over to Helena, almost in her face that Helena had to pull her face away. "Space baby girl, space" She said. "I'm his girlfriend, and you must be his runaway wife" Kelly said confidently, folding her arms on her breasts. Helena let out a chuckle. "Runaway wife" She muttered and turned to face Kenzo. "Is that the nickname you gave to me?" She asked rhetoricallly. "I like it" Kenzo looked up, ignored her gaze and turned to Kelly instead. "Don't do that here" He commanded. "Okay daddy" Kelly teased with a happy smile. He acknowledged her, and not just in front of anyone, but his wife. One everyone had claimed he still loved and there was no chance for her. Helena let out a smirk at Kenzo's actions. "Hmm, you know it's actually understandable. I've been gone for a long time and you needed someone to fill the space, at least warm our bed while I wasn't around. It's fine, I'm not mad" She said, smiling widely. She stretched her hands to a Kelly who was now fuming at her remark. "Hi girlfriend, I'm your boyfriend's wife" Her unbothered demeanor angered Kelly. "Why are you here?" She demanded, ignoring her stretched hand. Helena smiled and brought her hands down. "I'll be waiting for you at home, make sure you're home early" Helena winked at Kenzo, ignoring Kelly who huffed in anger as Helena stepped out of the office. She turned to Kenzo in anger. "Why the hell is she here? And what you're just going to allow her back into your life after she abandoned you??" She demanded angrily. Kenzo slammed the documents in his hands on the table and looked up at Kelly. "Know your place, Kelly" He said with an annoyed glare. *** It was less than an hour left for Kenzo to go home and he kept reminiscing about the whole encounter he's had in the past two days. Why was she suddenly back? And was she serious about getting back together? He didn't think she was serious and thought she definitely had a reason for coming back. Helena wasn't someone who did things without a reason. And her saying she wanted to make things right again was not so her, the Helena she had come to know couldn't care more less about their marriage nor him. The only thing she was known to care about was her dad's company, which was the one thing she abandoned him for. Kenzo let out a sigh as he settled into his car and his driver drove off. As the black car drove through the tall gates, the mansion appeared, grand and impressive. The driveway was lined with neatly trimmed bushes and led up to a huge front door framed by marble pillars. The house itself was modern and shiny, with big glass windows that reflected the golden light of the setting sun. The well-kept lawn stretched out in front, with fountains sparkling in the distance. Inside, the house was filled with smooth wooden floors and stylish decorations, showing off its owner’s wealth and taste. The car stopped quietly, blending into the peaceful surroundings as the gates closed behind it. The driver rushed over to Kenzo's side and opened the door for him. Kenzo stepped out and the driver handed over the key to him, staying behind while Kenzo walked in. Kenzo took a glance at his wrist to check the time. It was 9pm, as usual. He walked in and straight to his room. What do you think, Kenzo? Do I look sexy in this" pushing the door open to his suite room, he was met with the most unexpected scene, with sprawled legs on both sides of the bed, a book in her hands, in a flowy lacy thin white gown which stuck dangerously to her body, doing absolute justice to her perfectly rounded boobs which poked out dangerously through the see-through night gown, his long distance wife was right there, on the bed. She finally looked away from the book which was seated on both palms of her hands, she tucked it aside and then raised her head up, her eyes meeting his. "Missed me, dear husband?"Chapter 46Sleep With Me, Dear HusbandThe door clicked softly as Helena stepped into the apartment, her fingers curling around the edge of the frame. She hadn’t been here in weeks. The familiar scent; a blend of cedarwood and something uniquely Kenzo, washed over her like a warm tide. Home. She took a breath and moved further inside, her feet cushioned by the plush rugs he’d added since her last stay. Her gaze scanned the space: clean, quiet, lived-in. Yet, something felt… different. The lights had been dimmed, replaced by the soft flicker of candles spread across the room. Gentle instrumental music played in the background, and the faint scent of fresh lilies hung in the air. Her favorite.“Kenzo?” she called out, voice still a little hoarse from recovery. No answer. She took another step forward and spotted the low table in the living room. A small covered dish sat in the center, next to a bottle of chilled sparkling grape juice and two glasses. Her brows lifted. Then she saw it; a
Chapter 45Peace and PromisesThe soft hum of the hospital room lingered in the early morning light. Rays of sun filtered through the blinds, casting faint stripes across the white walls and Helena’s peaceful face. Her chest rose and fell in a rhythm that Kenzo had come to memorize over the past few weeks; slow, fragile, but steady.Kenzo sat slouched in the chair beside her bed, his hand still loosely wrapped around hers from the night before. The crumpled letter lay folded in his jacket pocket, though its words echoed relentlessly in his mind. She stirred. His eyes snapped open, posture straightening instantly. Her fingers twitched beneath his, and then her lashes fluttered. Slowly, she blinked her way into consciousness, the pale amber light warming her skin.“Hey,” she whispered, her voice weak but familiar.Kenzo leaned closer. “Hey.”For a second, neither said anything. There was no need to.Her gaze drifted to their joined hands. “You stayed.”“Of course I stayed.”Helena’s lip
Chapter 44Her Goodbye LetterThe room was quiet, lit only by the soft glow of evening seeping through sheer curtains. The machines by Helena’s bedside beeped with slow precision, each pulse a quiet reminder of her fragility. She was resting, finally, after a grueling round of treatment. Her breathing had steadied, but her frame still looked too delicate against the white sheets.Kenzo sat in the corner, arms resting on his knees, head bowed. He hadn’t meant to find the letter. It had fallen from between the pages of one of her old sketchbooks, the one tucked into her suitcase that Gianna had dropped off earlier. At first, he thought it was just another set of notes. She often wrote when she couldn’t sleep. But the second he saw his name in her handwriting, just his name on the front of a sealed envelope, his chest clenched. To Kenzo, in case I don’t get the chance to say it in person. He had stared at it for a full minute before peeling it open, hands trembling. Now, letter in hand,
Chapter 43The Last StandThe conference room was brighter than Helena remembered.Glass walls let the midday sun spill across the sleek marble floors, casting sharp lines and reflections. Her company’s emblem gleamed on the far wall, once a symbol of pride. Today, it felt heavier, like a name she was about to surrender.Helena sat at the head of the long oval table, papers stacked neatly before her, fingers clasped to still their tremble. Around her sat the board of directors, her department heads, and a few key shareholders. Aaron’s seat was conspicuously filled, though his posture leaned back in smug anticipation.Kenzo stood by the door.He wasn’t here as a businessman or a representative. He was here for her. Just her.The hum of low conversation faded as Helena stood.“Thank you all for being here,” she began, her voice clear but soft. “This meeting wasn’t scheduled, but it is necessary.”Her eyes swept the room. Many of these faces had doubted her return. Some still did. But it
Chapter 42Confronting the TruthKenzo barely slept. The night had dragged into the kind of dawn that felt more like dusk. The hospital room smelled like antiseptic and anxiety. Helena had drifted in and out of sleep, murmuring now and then, but she hadn’t said much else.He stayed beside her until the morning light began to cut through the blinds, casting pale gold across her still figure. His fingers had remained curled loosely around hers, but his mind was elsewhere, swirling, clawing at the puzzle she refused to let him solve.Something was wrong.More than just exhaustion. More than fainting. And he needed answers.By mid-morning, he stepped out of the room, giving himself space to think. Or maybe to breathe. The hospital’s side lobby was quiet. He called Alec.“Come to the hospital,” Kenzo said flatly. “Bring Gianna. Now.”Alec and Gianna arrived within the hour. Kenzo was already waiting in one of the consultation rooms, pacing. When they stepped inside, he didn’t waste a secon
Chapter 41Lines CrossedThe air inside the event hall buzzed with anticipation. Journalists, executives, and stakeholders filled the marble space, camera lights blinking like stars. Kenzo’s company was unveiling its latest eco-conscious skyscraper project, and Helena had played a silent but powerful hand in organizing the event. Even after everything, after the quiet days apart and the unanswered calls—she had followed through on her promise to help him redeem the company’s image. She stood by the stage, just off to the side, dressed in a sleek cream pantsuit that contrasted the deep green of the backdrop. Her heels were planted firm, shoulders squared, smile composed. No one could tell that her legs ached, that her breathing was shallow, that she hadn’t slept the night before. She wouldn’t let them see. From the other side of the room, Kenzo’s eyes caught hers for the briefest second. He wasn’t supposed to be looking at her, but he was. Not with warmth, just with guarded curiosity.
