Chapter 13: Broken Wings

“I WAS told that I’d find you here, your grace. Did I disturb you?” I asked Blade after I stood beside him in the bar counter. He was drinking alone.

“Can you hold your liquor, little wolf?” he asked instead as he motioned me to sit.

“I don’t know,” I answered after sitting beside him. “I guess I will find out tonight.”

The corners of his mouth lifted into a smile. “You haven’t had a drink before?”

“I tried it once when I turned eighteen; I didn’t enjoy it. I had never taken a sip since then. But I think I’d enjoy it tonight. Can I have some, your grace?”

Blade rose from his seat and took a shot glass. He spooned some ice cubes from the bucket before filling the glass with whiskey and then he handed it to me. I grimaced after one sip and he chuckled. It still tasted awful to me. It burned in my throat.

He looked into my eyes and said, “You will get used to it.”

Why do I feel like he wasn’t only referring to the whiskey?
