Chapter 17

Jessie Knight!

She is Xavier's mother..... What does she want with me? Oh god.

"Mommy! She is mean." I looked down to see Carrie, her eyes fixed on Layla. Layla had a bored look on her face.

Seriously. "Layla... Can you be at least nice to her?"

She just rolled her eyes and continued what she was eating. I sighed. I'd have to leave Carrie with her. I had to go see Xavier's mother, I guess.

"What is the letter all about? You suddenly look pale and ugly." She said.

I've gotten used to her insulting me, it's not the first time. "Nothing. I have to go somewhere, can I leave Carrie with you?" I asked and she gave me a horrified look.

"No, sorry not sorry, I don't need that with me." She said. Wow.

"Please, Layla. I gotta go, it's kinda... Important."

"Ugh! Fine."

I smiled "thank you."

I bent down to the level Carrie. "Okay Carrie,  you'd stay with aunt Layla, for some time, I'd be back soon," I said giving her, her basket of food. It also had her favorite sweets inside.

Before I gave her, she had already grabbed it giggling. I shook my head and chuckled.

"Hmm hmm." She nods her head. If it wasn't for the sweets, trust me, she would have been crying.

I sat her on a chair next to Layla. Daisy had already started digging into her lunch basket.

"Okay. Bye."

"Byeee." She said without looking from her food basket.

I walked out. Vanity Zea.

I called a taxi immediately after I was out. This was going to be the first time I was seeing any of his family members. It felt weird.

But what did she want to talk about? Soon I reached there. It was a huge house. Very huge and luxurious.

I gotta be careful not to break anything, even a glass here would be more expensive than my whole life.

I walked in slowly and carefully.

If someone should tell me the cost of this house, I'd have a heart attack. It's not a joke.

There were men in suits standing at the entrance. They were the bodyguards? They separated when I was near them giving a way for me to pass.

I gulped nervously, should I go back? I contemplated for a minute. I was here already, I should just hear what she wants to say.

I arranged my gown and walked in. My god.

How many people do live here? This place could contain more than 200 people.

What are you doing?! Just ask for her already! My subconscious screamed at me.

"Hey," I called one of the maids, they were so many maids, they all wore the same uniform.

She stopped and looked at me. "Uh... Do you know... Where the... Uh."

"Are you miss Hayden?" I asked.

Oh, she knows me. "Yes." I nodded.

"Follow me." She said walking to only god knows where, I followed behind her.

While walking, I took the opportunity to look at every marble here. Admiring them.

Soon we reached the place. She knocked. "Come in." Someone said behind the door. It was a lady's voice. And it was very beautiful.

She opened the door. She didn't enter but motioned for me to enter. I entered hesitantly.

I saw a lady sitting on an office chair. She was so beautiful and looked so young. She was probably in her late 40s but looked like she was in her 30s.

She wore a gown that complimented her slim figure. Her hair was just like Xavier's.

Heck, she was the lady version of him.

She smiled at me, she got up and walked toward me holding my hands with hers, she brought me to a chair and sat me down before going over to where she was which was the opposite side from where I was. An office table between us.

"Lily, it's nice to meet you. I've been hearing so much about you... From my daughter-in-law to be, Paisley." The smile never left her face. And I could tell now that it was fake.

"Okay... uh... why am I here?"

"Well, you see Lily, it's about Xavier... And from what I have heard about you and him... I'm not pleased, so I'm going to give you this for you to retire from where he works."

She got straight to her point. But what did she hear? nothing was going on between me and Xavier. Nothing.

She brought out three suitcases. They were pretty huge.

She placed it on the table and opened one of them. I almost got a heart attack. Jesus.

It was loads and loads of money. She opened the other two.

"This here is 500 million dollars, I could give you more if you want, all I want from you right now is to stay away from him, you could leave the country if you want to."

This was an insult. She was insinuating I was a gold digger or something.

"No. I'm sorry but I can't retire, but I can stay away from him. I won't take this."

She scoffed out a laugh.

"Isn't this what you wanted. Money?"

"No-" she cuts me off before I could finish my sentence.

"Oh, common Lily. Don't pretend to be a saint. We both know you're not. Now, I'm going to give you two options, retire and leave the country with this money or I'd make you do it myself, and you wouldn't want that because you treasure your family so much." She said.

She was a snake.

She opened her computer and showed me a video. There were men in suits inside the hospital room where Layla and Carrie were.

Oh god.
