Chapter 25

My smile grew.

I turned around to see Layla opening the freezer and Carrie poking her teddy bear.

They were real.

"I would prepare something for you now and then you'd go have some rest, you look tired," Layla said as if I was lost and found one.

I am surprised she does rare.

"No no. I'd do that myself, go relax, please." She sighed before walking to a nearby chair and sitting down on it.

I have lots of questions to ask her, but what she seems to need right now is to eat and rest.

Carrie on the other hand looked so good and so much healthy. I am happy about it, but it only got me more curious.

Does Xavier know who did this?

Grandma. I remembered what Daisy said earlier.

Grandma? She was with grandma?

My mom wasn't alive. Jack's mother? That's her only grandma. Lots of questions flew through my mind.

The food was ready soon enough. I served it on a plate before putting it on the dining table, Layla had gone to take her bath.

Serving Carrie, I watched her as she dug in. Soon Layla came out and immediately started eating.

~

After Layla and Carrie finished eating, they had slept off, in their room. Daisy didn't want to sleep but I had to make her, she looked somewhat tired.

I was on my phone in the living room. Some part of me was waiting for Xavier to call.

I haven't heard from him since this afternoon when he sent me that message.

Should I call him? No! He should be the one to call first.

That's not good, after all, he helped me find my family. I looked at his number one more time before pressing call.

It rang 4 times before he took it. Silence on the other end. "Hello?" It was barely a whisper. "Hang up, I'm busy." And with that, the line went off.

A sharp pain suddenly on my chest, he didn't want to talk to me? He was tired of me? Like yes, I'm pretty sure he is tired of the drama I have caused in his life.

I snapped my head up when I noticed Layla. "Are you crying?" She asked.

I suddenly noticed my eyes were wet. "Of course not, why would I cry at this moment, it's the happiest moment of my life."

"Then where did those come from? Are your eyes rainy?" She asked motioning to the tears in my eyes.

You could hear the sarcasm dripping from her tone, but I know she does love me.

"Layla, can I ask you some questions?"

"Lily, I need to talk to you." We said at the same time.

"Okay, you first." We said at the same time again and we burst out laughing.

"It's okay Lily, ask first." She assured us immediately that our laughs stopped. I sighed before I continued.

"Okay. W-was it that man you told me about the one who did this?"

"It wasn't him, Lily. The person who did this had come to where we were staying before we moved here."

What?

"I saw him talking to the men who had taken me..."

Who was it? Two men came to that house, Jack and Xavier. "J-jack?"

"Yes, I know it sounds stupid but his mother is the only grandma Daisy has, and it's possible he was the one."

He was the one who did this, I was suffering because of this and he also pretended to be on my side.

Why would he do that?

"He's not a good person, Lily. How did you even fall for him in the first place." She scowled, no doubt she was really angry.

It had just happened, I thought we'd spend the rest of our lives together, I was really happy back then.

"It's okay, you don't have to feel bad for something you don't know about, you never knew any of this would ever happen." She tried to console me when she noticed my expression.

"I'm just glad you all are okay, thank god nothing bad had happened."

"Yeah. I have to go and buy something." My eyes widened, I know that she would go out at some point, but I can't help but feel like this would repeat itself.

"Don't worry, the place isn't exactly far from here, I would be back soon." She walked out without waiting for my response.

She has always been this stubborn.

I sighed going to Carrie's room and of course, she was still sleeping. It's been like an hour now.

I looked at her sleeping form for another five minutes before coming out, I had to cook dinner.

I was in the middle of cooking when I heard a car beeping in front of the house. Who was there? Maybe it was just my imagination.

I ignored it and continued what I was doing. It beeped louder this time.

Okay, it wasn't my imagination.

I walked to the glass window looking out, I spotted Xavier. What? I thought he was too busy for me and now he's at my house disturbing me.

I walked to the door, opened it, and stepped out. I threw him a death glare.

"Took you long enough." He said looking amused. He looks so handsome.

Do I seriously have to pick that out? "What do you want." I sighed before I continued, he had helped me and I should be grateful.

"We are going out for dinner." He rolled his eyes before saying that. What? Did he just say dinner? "I am busy," I said rephrasing what he had said earlier.

If he was going to ask for a date, he should ask nicely. But I wasn't going to go either way.

He sighed frustratingly before walking to where I was, taking my hand in his he took me to the car. "Enter." He ordered.

"You know I can't, I have a family to take care of inside that hous-"

I stopped when I saw that lady who was taking care of Carrie when I wasn't around, she held a jogging Daisy's hand.

"She is here, now let's go." He stated like it was the most random thing to say.

The nerves of this man.

"What about my sis-"

"She knows." She does?

For no reason, exactly my face turned pink. Why the hell was I blushing?!

Had he planned this earlier? My inner giggled. "Fine." I finally said to Xavier. I took Daisy from the lady, telling her to thank you, I got into the car.

Sitting Carrie on my lap, she was suddenly giggling. Xavier entered and the car started moving.

"Mommy, you promised to buy me ice cream, you didn't." She said using her hand as if she wanted money for it.

Where did she learn that from?

I gasped when Xavier gave her money, "retu-"

Before I could finish, she had already shoved it into her pocket.
