CHAPTER XXXVIII
Rachael tries her best to ignore Elena as she rants on about things unfamiliar to Rachael.
Amid their one-sided conversation, Rachael picks up on some information about the family.
Elena’s voice is overshadowed by gunshots and the two women share a glance.
“Stay here,” Elena says as she and a few of the men go out to find out what is going on.
Rachael glances at the door of the room where John is being held. Two armed men guard the door.
The gunshots continue outside and Rachael begins to wonder what the situation is outside.

Samuel stands confused at the doorway as the scene looks strange to him. He was pumped up for a fight after Marcel came to inform him about the attack on Gabriel. So seeing his brother and the hunters conversing seems strange. Something here feels off. He can see that John is bruised and battered but what troubles him is Rachael’s presence. What is she doing here? Samuel’s nose picks on the smell of bullet shells and he sees the wall of the cabin that has been damaged. What happened? What made the hunters stop attacking Gabriel? They split up into two cars; Rachael and Gabriel stay in a different car from Elena. Staying with her would not be a good idea, especially for Elena. Elena drives Samuel, Elma and Bryan in her car as they follow behind Gabriel and the rest of the group. Silence is the name of the game in the car. Bryan is happy to be silent as anything can put Samuel off since he failed to keep Rachael safe, the vampire is happy to keep himself away from Samuel’s spotlight. Elena was a party lover while in college and she went to the best parties in school. Entering the club reminds her of the good days before she went full time into the family business of hunting the supernatural. There are a few people in the club as the DJ gradually kills the beat. Elena sees a man asleep on a sofa holding an empty glass. She scoffs; she notices bright eyes and shady characters in the dark corners of the club. Vampires. Of course, there are vampires in here. Elena is on alert as she becomes wary of the creatures in the dark. She carries her bag while her eyes scan the dance floor. Warren Peace parks his car by the side of the road just opposite the club, Clouds. He arranges his suit and rubs his hair as he makes his way to the club. He enters with the smell of holy ash around him. His eyes pick Gabriel out at the club; he wears a black leather jacket and he seems to be having a conversation with one of the bar girls. “I have some information,” Warren says as he joins the immortal at the bar. John is astounded by what Samuel said. Since Gabriel turned him into a vampire, he has dwelled in a world different from the one normal humans know. Gabriel wakes up to a morning filled with shame and regret. In Rachael's vulnerable state, he infiltrated her mind and sought to seduce her. But he wasn’t alone. Samuel was there and his intentions were not pure. Gabriel felt Samuel's presence leave but someone else came. Gabriel stands up from his bed and goes to the bathroom. He groans as his head twinges. The 6’3ft being washes his face and stares at the bathroom mirror. He recalls seeing Frank McQueen. He didn’t say anything but his presence was enough to sever his psychic link to Rachael. Gabriel and Rachael train for two hours and decide to take a break. Gabriel picks up a telephone and calls reception. He orders for water and juice. “You have more stamina than I expected,” Gabriel commends Rachael who is soaked in sweat. “Stamina? I feel like I took a long jog,” Rachael pants. “Your form isn’t bad either. You trained before?”, Gabriel asks. “Years ago. My mom used to show me some moves,” she says. She leans against the wall and takes in a deep breath. He stands in front of her, a few feet away. Her presence makes his heart warm with joy. Her eyes pull him in like a whirlwind. Rachael notices him staring and she remembers her dream. His intense gaze and herself in his arms. “What?” she asks. “Nothing,” he says but his smile betrays him. “You smile more nowadays,” Rachael says. “Is it a good thing?” he takes a step toward Rachael. “Compared to when we first met, yes it is” she says with a smile. “I used to think you were full of yourself,” she says. “
