“So you don’t want me to take it?” she asked as she looked at him. She was confused about the way he was right now versus what he was the night before. The panic he had the night before was completely gone. Now he was saying it didn’t matter. She knew that it did but not the way he had made it seem the night before. She would listen to him and then make her decision though she knew that she was okay with what happened the night before.
“I want you to do what you want to do. If you want to take that chance, then we will deal with it, but together. Kristen, I want you to think about everything and what you really want out of life. There is a good chance that because of who we are, this is real and will be happening. Maybe not this time, but soon if we continue without the protection of some sort. You are the one who will be the most affected by it. It is your choice.” Greg said softly as he ran his hand down her back. “one
She was tired by noon. She found that they worked well as they compromised with the things they had to do. The first thing was switching her phone to a new plan. She knew that she had to do that, and it was on the forefront of her mind the morning while they waited for different stores to open. She didn’t want to add to any bills for him, and though they had discussed it, she was unprepared for how he handled it when they walked in.They had talked about the basic things before they had left the house. He kept trying to get her to understand it would be less expensive for them if he just added her to his plan. He knew that a single phone was almost twice as much as it would be to add a phone to an existing plan. She didn’t want to be too entwined, but he knew this was it. Though they had a few things to work out, he knew that this was his life now. She hadn’t realized it just yet. They had moved quickly, but their human side did n
“What?” she asked, confused as she looked around for the person who had yelled ‘Mr. Bridger” out. All she could say was it was female. Though by his reaction, she thought it had to be someone he really didn’t like too much. It had to be a student to call him Mr. Bridger, though. That was something she didn’t know how to handle. The area was considered a small town. Most people did know each other or at least someone in someone’s family. It seemed the whole area was connected somehow.“Did you not pay attention to anyone in your class?” he asked with a laugh. “Out of all my students, this one was the one who liked causing drama the most, and she was in your class. This is not going to be fun.”“Oh. Wonderful.” Kristen said. Greg was unlocking the door. He opened the door for her to get in though he was standing right there close to her. He knew that he might actually have to use
An hour into the shopping, Kristen was amazed as to the number of things that teachers had to do to get their classrooms ready. She was looking at some of the posters, now having more of an idea as to what he was teaching for the subject. They had found a few posters to put up in the room and some paper to cover some of the other walls with a border that he could change throughout the year. That way, things could be redone rather quickly, and he wouldn’t be stuck coming up with new ideas every few months. It was all laid out for him right now.She had gone into one of the other grades and had found the ladders that she had talked about. Though she looked them over, she thought it would be okay to get only one. The movable parts could be the classes instead of doing one for each student. They were middle schoolers and not little kids. She had to remind him a few times. It was a difficult age to be in because they were not little kids, but they were not yet
“So she works for you?” the man chuckled.“Yes,” Greg said. “She isn’t a student anymore, no conflict. Please remember that I teach sixth grade now. I don’t teach in the high school any longer.”“I see.” The older man said. He knew that he could not really say anything to Greg in this. It was well known among most of the teachers in the high school that the man had his favorite students every year. Though no one had proof of the possible affairs, they were there and happening in the school. “I think that middle school will be good for you.”“I hope so,” Greg said as the man walked away.“What was that about?” Kristen asked as she looked at Greg. She knew more had been said without the use of words. Though she might not have understood things the way they had happened, she did know that Greg had staked his claim on her in front of the man. Sh
Watching Greg shop was something like a horror movie for Kristen. She knew that he had not been like her when she saw him pick something up and then throw it in the cart. He moved through the store as if he had known where everything was, but he acted surprised when he found something new. It was a wake-up for her that he just enjoyed life to the fullest most days. He enjoyed looking at things as well. She normally knew exactly what she was there for and only went to get that.Though there wasn’t a lot that he needed to get at the store, he still looked at nearly everything, “Some times you see something you didn’t know you wanted or needed. We have the time today, so why not enjoy it. When we get home, you can take a nap.” He chuckled as they continued to walk around. “Last time I was here, I found these cool pens and got them. They turned out to be the best type of pen I have ever used. So I count that as a win.”&ldq
“We do need some, but I wanted to explain it to you in a way that could make sense. With my shirts alone, we need something strong to get the stains out. I tend to be rough on my clothes even when I try really hard to not be.” He said with a laugh. “So something like this works, but I figured maybe you knew some Jedi trick or something.”“Why because I am female?” She asked as she met his eyes. Though he never said anything to the fact she had seen him defer to women on a lot of things in the past. She had to wonder if he thought it wasn’t unnoticed.“No. it is because you have been on your own since you were born.” He said. “I figured you probably knew things that I don’t know because you had to find out the hard way how to do things. I don’t mind helping or whatever. But I do know that you have had a much different life than I have. One that was harder, and you probably know a lot m
The words she said lingered in his head for hours after they got home. She was in the room that was hers, but he hoped she never really used. She was unboxing things. Though she was trying to figure out where to place them as he walked in and saw that the closet was now filled with clothes that he thought were all too big for her. Understanding that she had not been the one to pick out the things she wore was a big thing to him. She probably needed some more things for herself that she could pick out. That was for another time, though. They would start off slow for her new wardrobe. He was propped on the door jam watching her work as she noticed him standing there. She continued knowing that he would either say something or continue to watch her. She wanted to get at least two more boxes done and emptied before she started on their dinner. He had limited food in the house, and they had discussed the next day going and getting more.
“What?” She asked as she placed the phone on speaker. She looked up to Greg and knew he was slightly surprised that she spoke like that. It wasn’t like her. He knew then how tired and worn out she really was.“Are you done with this farce?” Her mother asked. “I don’t know how you got all your stuff out of the house, but it is time to come back and end this little stunt you are playing. I mean, Kristen, we all know you aren’t with a man. It is simply impossible to think about. That is how we should have known you were lying last night.”“Mom, it isn’t a stunt,” Kristen said. “I moved out. I am fine, and right now, I am unpacking, so I am a little busy and tired.”“Who was that man we talked to last night?” her mother demanded.“That is Greg,” Kristen said. She was careful not to say his last name. Knowing that her mother could have poss
