Chapter Five

The door opened, revealing an adorable teenage girl, she tied her black curly hair in a bun. She smiled, lightly, revealing a pair of braces in her teeth. Then she walked in and closed the door behind her, Christopher’s eye gleamed with joy, as the teenage girl approached the bed, with some elegance in her walking steps, but worry on her face, she felt sorry for Christopher. Patricia was marveled as she watched the way Christopher’s mode changed, from being sober, to being so elated, she wondered who the girl was to Christopher.

She slid into Christopher’s open arms, “I’m sorry I didn’t come sooner” the teenage girl mouthed.

They both tightened their arms around each other, like prisoners of their own bodies. Then a wave of silence hit the room, for a couple of seconds. Untangling from their embrace, Christopher laid back fully on his bed.

“you are here now that’s what matter, better late than never” Christopher smiled, as he held the teenage girls’ hand

Patricia cleared her throat “I never knew I have abilities of going invisible”

Christopher scoffed

“good day ma’am” the teenage girl smiled at Patricia “I’m Priscilla”

“ok…Priscilla, nice meeting you, I don’t need to ask if you two know each other, you obviously do, so the question will be, where do you know each other from?”

“we are school mates, and also seatmates” Christopher mouthed

“I asked because I have never seen Christopher this ecstatic, you certainly have an effect on him, a positive one” Patricia smiled

“I’m glad I have that effect on him” Priscilla touched Christopher’s shoulders with an adorable blush. If she was fair in complexion, am sure her face would have been beet red by now.

“I think you are exaggerating it, don’t let it get into your head” Christopher smirked

“the nurse just spoke, so I’ll take her word for it”

“I’ll leave you two to catch up, call for me when you need anything” Patricia stood up, patted Christopher on the shoulder, as she headed for the door.

“thank you nurse Patricia” Christopher smiled

Patricia turned back, nodded her head slightly at Christopher, then walks out of the room.

“how have you been? If looks are anything to go by, you don’t look good, but then hope there is improvement?” Priscilla said as she sat on the bed with Christopher.

“well apart from the fact that I have some scenes from time to time, I think I’m fine” he replied with a shrug.

“you look so pale, hardly recognizable… I’m glad I could see you, though not early enough, but then is still saw you, which means you have no choice, but to get well sooner than expected” she said as she patted his back.

“I’m glad you came too, I felt a bit of uplifted, immediately the door opened to reveal you”.

“you seem to get along with the nurse so well, which made me wonder the charm she had on you, the last I checked I was the only person you related with well enough, after your mom’s death, not even your dad came close” she asked, her eyes unable to hide the glint of amusement in them.

Christopher shrugged, with a smirk “I don’t know either, what charm she used, but I find the same level of solace in her, as I find in you. She understands me like you do, and I think that’s’ all that matters”

“well…I don’t know it’s ok, but I felt I flush of jealousy, hearing you say all that about her”

Christopher tightened his grip around Priscilla’s palm “you shouldn’t be jealous, she is not replacing you, no one can, I see her like the mom I no longer had”

“alright, tomorrow is your birthday, your current condition shouldn’t make you enjoy your day” she said gleefully, trying to change the topic.

“you remembered!!” Christopher sat up, gently, he still felt a bit of

“how can I forget that? What sort of best friend will that make me?”

“for a while I thought you did, anyway I don’t what tomorrow holds for me, no arrangements from my side though”

“let’s keep our fingers crossed and hope something comes up” Priscilla smiled

“that’s all we can do, hope, but I’m not expecting anything, anyway, since my mom passed nothing of such happened. Enough about me, how are you? Your braces are due, aren’t they? It’s been there for four years”

“yes, they are, I will be meeting the dentist next week, sadly you won’t be available, after four years, this will be the only time you missed my sessions with the dentist”

“I might still be able to come for your final session, let’s see how quick they discharge me from here”

“that would be so adorable, your presence at my sessions have always aided me in going through them”

“I, on the other hand always looked forward to your next session” Christopher scoffed.
