Chapter Two

“You are right, sorry for prying” Morris shrugged in response,

“Give us a second Mr Morris” Dave stood up from his chair, having a pout on his face, “Patricia can I see you?” he asked, throwing an irritated look towards her, then he walked to the door, opened it, and walked outside.

“please excuse me” Patricia said with a slight bow and scurried behind Dave.

Morris just shrugged, as he was left alone in the Dave’s office. All he could think of was his son who was now said to have Amnesia. Was it total or partial? Would his be able to recognize him even tho things weren't rosy between them? He heaved a sigh as he buried his face in between his palm.

Dave stood at the corridor, as Patricia walked up to him. “what did you think you are doing Patricia?” he asked her with a death glare. If looks could kill, Patricia would definitely have been six feet under by then.

“I don’t understand sir, doing what?” she asked with an innocent but confused look, obviously she was still clueless about everything.

“you know what I’m talking about, don’t play dumb with me, you are trying to take charge of the whole thing, it is seems you are forgetting who the doctor is” he said, as the last words came out boldly and clearly, him trying to remind Patricia that he was still the boss.

For some seconds, she stared at his hyperventilating figure with so much confusion before his words finally registered itself in her head, revealing it's true meaning. She stiffened a laugh at his outburst display of immaturity,

“I felt since I’ve conversed with the patient, I’ll be in a better place to respond about him” she said, looking at him with pitiful eyes, she somehow felt obligated to explain to him what everything was really all about.

His eyes twitched for some seconds, contemplating whether to go on scolding her or to let it go before he decided to the the latter.

“From now on I do the talking, and you watch” he replied with a stern look.

Patricia opened her lips to speak, but she wasn’t able to utter any word. This man really has a knack for annoying the hell out of people

“Is that clear?” Dave widened his eyes, as he sought for an affirmation from Patricia.

“yes sir” Patricia nodded unenthusiastically.

Dave walked back into his office, and in a minute, he was out again, this time, Morris was behind him, they both walked up to where Patricia stood, motionless, with a dejected pout on her face.

“Let’s go” Dave said, as he passed Patricia.

“Are you okay? Morris grinned, as he touched Patricia on her arm

“Yes, I am, why?” she asked with gritted teeth, forcing herself not to lash out on an innocent person.

“well… you look distant, and if your demeanor is anything to go by, it’s far from what it was before you walked out of the doctor’s office"

“I’m fine” Patricia quickly walks to catch up with Dave, who was some steps ahead of her.

Morris followed. Getting to the male ward, Dave opened the door, and entered, so did Patricia, and Morris. The teenager opened his eyes as the door opened, he watched as Dave, Patricia, who had a doleful expression, and Morris, entered the room. The teenage boy had a vacant expression on his face, as his eyes followed the three that just entered the room.

“great! You are still awake” Dave smiled at the boy, then he checked the boy’s pupils, they looked dilated. “how many fingers do I have her?” Dave made visible four of his fingers to the boy.

The silence that came from the boy was deafening, with an expressionless look on his face, after a moment of silence in the room, Dave dropped his hands, then gave Patricia a grave expression, she responded with a grin.

“can you remember how you came here?” Dave further inquired; he widened his eye waiting for a response.

The boy still kept mute, this frustrated Dave, but he tried so hard to bottle his emotions up.

“Christopher, it’s me, your father, talk to the doctor, so they can treat you, please” Morris walked close to the bed, and held his son’s arm, a tear dropped from Morris’ eyes.

Christopher still didn’t budge, he laid down on the bed, staring at the faces standing.

“can you please give me a minute with him?” Patricia looked at Dave and Morris,

Dave gave her a stern look; he had warned her to keep mute.

Patricia shrugged at Dave, “we are trying every means possible to see him…” she gestured to the kid “get better, you want him well, as much as I do, so allow me to try what I think is best for him”

“whatever it will take to make him get better, please do it, I can’t let anything happen to him, he’s all I’ve got” Morris locked eyes with Patricia, his eyes were moist, waiting for a little push to overflow with tears.

“you just have to trust me on this, both of you, I know what I’m doing, so please leave me with him, I believe I’ll be able to bring out a word or two from him” Patricia wore a pleading look on her face.

Morris and Dave uttered no word, as they both evacuated the room, leaving Patricia, and Christopher in the room. Patricia drew a chair to the bedside, then sat on it.

“why aren’t you saying anything? you spoke to me the other time”

The boy remained silent, staring at Patricia, as she held his hands with her both arms

“I know you can hear me, and you can speak, so speak up already”

“that guy in white coat, is he always like that?” the boy cracked a little but noticeable smirk

Patricia’s face ignited with happiness, and a relief, then she smiled, “he just wants you to get better, we all are worried about you”

“how did I get here? I feel my memory is failing me, I remember some things so faintly”

“that is a good sign, it means you are improving, though it’s gradual, but we’ll keep our fingers crossed that it happens speedily. Until then, we can only hope that you get better, you just have to carry us along, so we know where, and how to help. So, promise me you will inform us as you” Patricia cupped his cheeks.

“I will, but only to you, as for the other man, the one on white gown, I don’t like him”

“why?” Patricia grinned at the teenager, “has he done anything to you?”

“no” the teenager shakes his head, “I just feel more relaxed talking to you, I think you will understand me better”

“well, you are right about that” Patricia cracked a smile, “but he is the doctor in charge of you. you will see his face around here often, so you will have to ease up around him, but then I will be here regularly to check your recuperation progress”

The teenager nodded unenthusiastically “ok”

“don’t worry you will be fine soon, then you can forget about doctor Dave” Patricia squeezed his hands, then smiled at the teenager.

“thank you” the teenage boy smiled, making his frontal teeth visible.

Patricia released his hands, “good night Christopher” she walked out of the room, closing the door behind her.
