Chapter Nine

Patricia stood there, and watched him leave, she didn’t move, until he was out of sight.

In Christopher’s’ room, he sat up, finding solace on Priscilla’s shoulders, he sulked.

“she didn’t mean to hurt you, as a matter of fact, she is the reason you had the birthday in the first place, she just wants you to be good, to feel comfortable” Priscilla said, as she wrapped her arms around Christopher

“it was only my mom that was allowed to call me Christoph”

“I know that, but Nurse Patricia doesn’t, she’d have to be informed first, so you can’t really fault her”

“I guess not, thank you for being part of those that planned to surprise me, it worked” Christopher raised his head from Priscilla’s shoulder, then looked at her, and smiled

“you should be thanking nurse Patricia, it was all her, I just made a few suggestions, and the idea to bring you out of your room was mine” Priscilla nodded her head, and smiled reassuringly.

“well, you did something, and coming out of my room to the waiting room was the highlight of the whole thing, so I’m still going to give you the accolade you very well deserve”

Priscilla blushed, as she touched her ears and smiled “you can keep them coming, I hope my head doesn’t explode though”

“it is free to” Christopher scoffed “but really thank you, I didn’t expect it, and it happened, so I can’t complain”

Priscilla opened her arms for a hug, Christopher slid in, almost immediately, then tightened his grip around her

“thank you for that” Priscilla smiled

“for what exactly?” Christopher smirked, rubbing his nose

“tightening your grip around me, it was reassuring”

“you are welcoming, it’s the only place I feel safe right now, so I should be thanking you for providing me solace, when I needed it the most”

“you are welcome, it’s the least I could do…”

“your appointment with your dentist is still slated for next week?” Christopher adjusted his seating position

“yes, it is, I’m anxious, I can’t wait to get these braces of my teeth”

“I hope to be there too, I need to witness that”

“you being there would mean everything to me, I hope you would be able to make it”

“if I’m discharged from this shit hole, I’ll definitely come, let’s keep our fingers crossed”

There was a knock on the door, interrupting their conversation, they waited for a second, then the knock came in again

“come in” Priscilla answered

The door opened to reveal Patricia, she walked in, looking apologetic, “I’m sorry, I didn’t know about that name was sacred”

“It’s fine” Christopher smiled “I’m sorry I reacted that way too”

“it’s fine, understand” she replied, flashing him her Mega watt smile.

“you understand?” Christopher was perplexed

“yes, I do”

“what do you understand?”

“well, I know that you are bi-polar”

“oh damn, my father, right? he told you” he said as he facepalmed himself, realization dawning on him.

“yes, he did, and I was wondering why it took so long to me knowing" she replied.

“well… I don’t like telling people”

“I’m your nurse, I deserve to know, don’t you think so?”

“well, I guess so, didn’t think it would come up”

“how do you mean?” Patricia placed her hand on her waist

“I didn’t think I’d be in the hospital for this long”

“I know how it feels, but we have to make sure you are ok, before we can discharge you”

“it’s taking really long!” Christopher voice went up

Priscila placed her hand on his knee, Christopher moved his leg away from her hold

“you’ll be out of here before you know it, but first you should focus on being well”

There was silence for a couple of seconds

“I’ll leave you two together” Patricia tapped Christopher “take care”

Patricia left the room,

“I might miss your appointment after all” Christopher said to pricillia, breaking the silence after Patricia left the room.

“it seems so, anyway, your health is paramount now, so get well, soon”

“I will, they can’t keep me here forever, even though it’s obvious they like my face” Christopher chuckled

“well, you can’t blame them, get well” Priscilla gets on her feet, “I will also take my leave, see you when I see you” she smiled

“thanks for showing up on this important day, it’s been inscribed on the tablet of my heart” he said to her, showcasing his perfectly arranged white teeth in a smile.

“my pleasure” Priscilla pecked Christopher on his forehead, then smiled, before turning to take her leave.

“thank you for that” Christopher said smiling

Priscilla who was already at the door simply nodded her head, and took her leave.
