Melainy received a message from Vincent after lunch. He is so old school, she thought. He typed each punctuation correctly in the text message and does not use any emoji. Melainy waited at the lobby of the high end service apartment. She did not dress up - just her normal university student look - white T shirt and denim shorts. She looked simple but confident, while women walking inside and out are usually dressed exquisitely, as if the lobby is the high fashion runway. It’s hard to ignore her though, as her eyes are bright and crystal, and her skin naturally glowing. Vincent did not make her wait for long. It started to rain heavily just when Melainy reached Vincent’s home. After signing the contract, Melainy stood up and looked out from the french windows of Vincent’s apartment. The next day, Melainy received an email from Vaxo Group confirming her full-time return offer. As expected, she got selected into the “Management Associate Programme”, which consisted of 4 rotations and then straight after she would be promoted to assistant manager. She liked the salary too, 50% higher than the average in her cohort. Really a goodbye to her old days. Now she had a bit of savings from the part-time job, her internship, and the “salary” from Vincent. She could expect stable income from July. Melainy woke up the next day with a bad headache. She recalled that she was partying with her friends last night, until Vincent appeared. She lost her soberness after seeing Vincent - what made her trust Vincent so much? She wondered in bed. Picking up her phone from the bedside table, 11am? She sat up quickly. The room was dark because the curtains were drawn. Usually, she wouldn’t draw the curtains completely, so that the daylight could come in and she would wake up early - to maximize the days. “Which department are you in now?” Vincent asked while Melainy put a uni sushi into her mouth. Melainy had to speed up her chewing - now her puffy cheeks made her look like a hamster. Vincent snickered, purposefully staring at her so that she looked even more embarrassed. Finally she finished her sushi, “Operations. Just the first rotation.”“The heart of the company.” Vincent commented. Melainy did not really get why, but she happily took another Wagyu tartare offered by Vincent - he did not eat beef. Seeing Melainy so content with the food, Vincent suddenly felt so relaxed. He was never too particular about food. For him, there were only two types of food - hot or cold. He usually had the hot ones, but sometimes also appreciated the cold dishes such as sushi or tartrate.
