On the night Wynnie Moore is done recovering from childbirth, she suddenly brings up the traumatic nightmare that I never wish to revisit. "Actually, the person who imprisoned and assaulted you five years ago was Margaret Silva." Margaret is Logan Jameson's wife, and Logan is the adopted younger brother she raised. My mind goes blank as I blurt, "What?" Wynnie continues as if she's discussing something insignificant. "Back then, Logan found out he was infertile. His mother-in-law never liked him to begin with. To help him secure his position in the Silva family, I agreed to his proposal that you would provide the sperm. "Meanwhile, Margaret had always harbored feelings for you. So..." It turns out the three of them have worked together to imprison and assault me over the course of a few days until Margaret becomes pregnant. I try hard to suppress the nauseous sensation rising in the back of my throat. My lips tremble as I ask shakily, "Why are you telling me this now?" Wynnie lets out a long sigh, as if a burden she's carried for years has finally been lifted. She says, "I've been keeping this a secret for five years. It's exhausting. Also, I've already made up for the child that I once owed you. They say a man takes on a much softer character after becoming a father. Well, that certainly seems to be the case. "You're not losing your temper like you used to. You've finally become calmer and more agreeable." I force a strained and ugly smile. She has no idea that I haven't mellowed down the slightest. It's just that I have a secret that I've never revealed to her too.

Chapter 1

Blake's POV

The cruel truth hit me so hard that I felt dizzy, but I still caught something that was off in what my wife, Wynnie Moore, had just said to me.

"What do you mean you owe me a child?" I asked.

She froze for a moment. It was obvious she was still hiding something from me.

Then, she scratched her head and decided to come clean. "Before that incident happened, wasn't I pregnant? Logan wanted his child to be the older brother. So, I staged the whole thing myself and smeared a little shoe polish on the stairs..."

I felt as if I had been struck by lightning. My fingers trembled uncontrollably.

So, Wynnie had killed the first child I had been so eagerly waiting for with her own hands. The baby had been seven months old! It was a fully formed baby boy!

In just two more months, he would have been able to see this world.

Yet, his own mother had intentionally miscarried him.

It felt as though an invisible hand had wrapped itself around my heart and squeezed hard with all its might. The pain was so intense that I could barely breathe.

Instinctively, I opened my mouth. My breathing grew more and more rapid.

Upon seeing this, Wynnie grabbed my hand and gently kissed it. "I know you're hurting, but we already have Sam now. It's the same."

I looked at our son, Sam Ingham, who was sleeping in the cradle. Tears silently rolled down my cheeks.

I said, "It's not the same..."

Wynnie frowned and let go of my hand.

Her voice took on an icy tone as she said, "How is it not the same? They're both our children. Just think of Sam as that child being reincarnated in my womb, and that's that! Besides, to make it up to you after the miscarriage, I bought you that limited-edition watch you loved most.

"Blake, I don't owe you anything!"

If I had known that the watch had been bought with my child's life, I would rather never have had it.

Could a new child and a gift really make up for the pain of losing my son? That was impossible! I refused to accept it!

Wynnie's loud voice woke Sam. He burst into loud sobs. She immediately picked him up and comforted him in a soft, gentle voice.

Back when she learned she was pregnant with Sam, her joy had been no less than mine. She had prepared the nursery long in advance, and there had been so many tiny baby clothes that they couldn't even fit in the closet.

She would carefully stroke her belly, tell stories to the baby, and feel for his movements. Sam received an abundance of motherly love that the first child had never gotten to experience.

Wynnie truly loved Sam. But now, the more she loved him, the more my heart ached.

She carried Sam over to me, wanting me to hold him. My eyes were reddened as I stared at them coldly without reaching out.

A look of disgust appeared in Wynnie's eyes as she sneered, "I thought you'd finally learned to behave. Turns out you still have quite a temper. If you're so upset, then we don't need to hold the sip and see tomorrow. We can go to the courthouse and get divorced instead!"

I stared at her intently. I wished I could tear open her body and see whether her heart was made of stone.

Five years ago, she had said the same thing about divorce. That was back when I discovered that she had slept with her adopted younger brother, Logan Jameson.
