I leaned forward resting my forearms on my knees and stared at the wine sitting between us. For a moment I wondered if I should stop there. She had already heard the truth to change everything she thought about my disappearance.

Then I remembered why I promised myself no secrets.

"There is one thing," I said quietly.

Kathryn looked at me.

"There always seems to be one thing."

There was no sarcasm in her voice now. There was exhaustion.
