When the banging on the door reached my ears, I shuddered in fright, dropping the bowl of water in my hand. I peeped out the kitchen door, but it just wasn't easy to view the door to the entrance from the kitchen door. I slowly walked out the kitchen as I heard the banging become louder and louder. Who the heck was that?
"Who's that?!" I yelled at the door as I neared it. A low, mumbling sound came from the other side of the door. Adam?
"Is that you? Honey?" I asked as I placed my hand on the doorknob. It felt cold and only added to the fear I felt inside. My heart thumped in my chest when I heard the voice.
"Open the damn door!" I heard Adam's voice say as I unlocked the bolt on the door. The door got pushed open the moment I unlocked it and an angry looking Adam is seen, breathing hard, looking a little damp. He stared at me with his large brown eyes, making me gasp in shock.
"What...wha..."
We got into the bedroom and Adam shut the door behind us. I took off my flip-flops as Adam went into the bathroom to pee. I quickly took my dress off and change I to my night robe. I sat on the bed, twirling on it, I laid on our comfortable bed. Adam locked the door and joined me on the bed.We stared at the ceiling in silence for a while, and then Adam spoke up."You kiss great." He mumbled, with his hands behind his head. Was he still drunk? He definitely must have been, because he never complimented me. I should act like I didn't hear. I must have been hearing things anyway."What was that?" I asked."I ain't saying it again." He said, and I smiled, knowing he really said it.Wow. Adam? A compliment? Where was this coming from?"Thanks, but..." I trailed off. I didn't want to upset or annoy him so I decided not to say anything more.
"He's fucking calling." Adam breathed, standing up from the ground. "He's fucking calling you again!" He yelled.Oh gosh. So far the morning had been going quite fine but now..."Adam, please calm down. I'll just tell him to stop calling." I tried to calm him down."Shut the fuck up!" He spat, walking up to the bed. He grabbed the phone and stared at it for some seconds, breathing hard with fury. He suddenly threw the phone to the bed as he returned back to me, standing right in front of me."You caused this, you know." He whispered, my legs quivering in response."I...how?" I asked."When you fucking told me to act like someone I wasn't. I agreed only because you threatened on calling off the wedding but now see what you've caused! You want to cheat on me with that prick?!" He spat in my face, making me scrunch up my wet face."I didn't.
Drug dealing? Why would Adam be involved in drug dealing? All these things just don't add up."Adam- ""Shut the fuck up." He snapped at me, struggling with the officer."What's happening?" I asked him but he didn't answer me."Don't fucking handle me rough." He was telling the officer. What the fuck was all of this?"I'll tell you what's happening. Your husband here, Adam Smith, does drugs." One of the officers said, glaring at Adam. "Yesterday he and his gang were almost caught where they wanted to ship tons of cocaine illegally to Japan but they all escaped, except for one...chubby redhead. We caught that one. He's the one that provided information leading to the arrest of all his other gang members." He finished, leaving me staring at Adam with watery eyes.Is that where he was throughout last night?"Adam, is thi
"Are you...are you messing with me right now? Are you kidding? Are you joking? You better not be messing with me, Emily." He said through the phone, a new pain growing in my elbow."I'm not kidding, Daniel! I should get to the hospital soon." I said, standing up from the bed. "I'll be fine though, I'll get to the - ""No, you can't go all by yourself." He interrupted as I opened the door and walked outside the room."I can. I'll get a taxi, don't worry about me." I told him and started walking down the stairs carefully. I knew if I got myself downstairs and went outside, I would definitely find a taxi in seconds. All I had to do was to actually get down the stairs and outside the house."Emily, text me your address. I'll come pick you up." I heard him say, also hearing the jingle of keys in the background."No, Daniel. I - ""Emily, please. You're obviously n
Oh my goodness, why? How could I have forgot my phone in the taxi? How would I call Daniel to tell him I'm doing good in the hospital now?God, and the stupid phone was switched off. Why did I switch it off? What would Daniel think if he tried to call my phone and discovered I switched it off? Wouldn't he think I was avoiding him? Why, oh why did I have to forget my phone in the taxi? How would I survive without it? I don't even know anybody's number by heart, so it's useless using someone else's phone to call anyone. This is one very stupid thing I've done. Would I ever get my phone back? Will the taxi driver see it and return it or will he not even see it till the end of the day?The door opened again and the redhead doctor entered the ward, holding a plastic bottled water. He walks in and opens the bottle, sitting back down on the stool."So this guy that did this, he was your hu
I turned around in the bed, gradually opening my eyes. I felt a headache coming on, but it wasn't something I was going to worry too much about.I took in a deep breath, taking in the infamous smell of the hospital, you know, how hospitals smell. I hated the smell but got used to it eventually, due to my frequent visits to the hospital, being pregnant and all.I glanced at my watch, it was 2:50p.m. I had to get back home. I didn't want to stay here any longer. I needed to be somewhere safe and comfortable right now - if that house could be called safe. Was I safe there anymore? What if Adam got released and returned to meet me in the house? What would he do to me?Maybe it's time I got a new apartment for myself.I hadn't decided on the new apartment thought but I knew I had to consider it. But what would that mean? Was I running away from Adam? How would Adam feel on knowi
Finding a house wasn't easy. Finding a new apartment to live in without having so many people to pack for you while you are pregnant was hell. I struggled to find a house before the day ended and some teenagers to help me pack all my things from Adam's house inside the truck that was going to take them to my new apartment. After three hours of driving in the huge, dirty truck, I finally got to my apartment. I alighted the truck with help from the old driver, and he offered to help me carry my things inside the house. I couldn't decline because I didn't have a choice. There was no way I could do it all myself, considering I was pregnant and all.The house was a small, red bungalow with a tiny chimney at the top. The roof was brown, and had wavy lines drawn from one end of the roof to the other. The walls of the house was painted red, and even though I was told that the house was old, I found that the brick walls were still very strong and stu
"Emily I...wait, what are you doing here?" Adam drew back from me, examining me like I'd just hopped out of a car involved in a fatal accident. What was I to tell him? That I needed to refresh my life and I decided to cut him and Adam off of my life? No, I wasn't going to tell him that."I...I uh, got a new apartment, as...as you can see." I gestured to my house in front of me. Good thing I'd worked my ass off before getting pregnant and I had enough money for this house and to stock the whole place up."You got a new apartment?!" He gasped. "Wh...you never told me this. Emily, what's going on with you? You didn't call me for hours after you said you would and I've been worried and I've tried to call you countless times over and over again but it kept saying switched off and I've just been trying and I've been worried about you and I just didn't know where...." He hyperventilated, breathing in and out quickly. He looked
