Immediately I saw the car, I knew that whosoever was in there hadn't seen me yet. So that was my chance to bolt away from where I was standing. And quick.
Emily was staring at me with a puzzled look on her face. I grabbed her hand and as I pulled her back into the house, I told her what had just happened.
I quickly rushed her into my room looking around for where she could hide for now, but she was way ahead of me.
She climbed right into my closet, signalling me to lock it up. By now, the person in the car had entered the house, shutting the door.
Shit. My dad must not find her here.
I had no time. I wasn't really comfortable with the idea at first, but realising what could happen if my dad found her, I quickly locked up the closet and put the key in my pocket.
"Daniel!" Someone called.
"Yes, who is it?" I asked, calming myself down I walked towards the living room.
"It's me Danny." Judy said.
Wait, Judy?
"What the heck, Judy?!" I said. Approaching the living room, I saw Judy, sipping something in a transparent cup.
She was the one in mom's car?
"W- how did you- did you take Mom's car to your party?" I asked, boiling with rage.
"Hey, cool down bro. Just felt like taking that baby for a ride."
I was totally furious.
"Oh, mom's surely gonna hear about this when she's back." I threatened.
"Danny dear, let's even imagine that you've got the guts to tell Mom, she would never believe you. Besides, I left the car exactly how I met it. And moreover, you have no damn evidence. So, for your own safety, keep that mouth shut."
"Why would you even take Mom's car? You have a bike, don't you?"
"Dude, stop talking please."
I felt I had a bigger problem than Judy, so I gave up the topic.
"Whatever. I'm going to my room."
"Yeah, good for you."
I got to my room, shut the door and stealthily unlocked my closet.
"Who was it?" Emily asked when she saw me.
"My sister, Judy."
She nodded.
I decided to help her out of the closet and put out my hand. She took it, trying to get out of the closet but her leg was caught in one of my shirts. In that process, she lost balance and fell, landing right on top of me.
I couldn't but feel the weight of her body, landing on mine and our faces were only inches apart. I realised if I was going to do anything, this was the time. But before I could take any action, she had already gotten off me, and sat on the ground.
I cleared my throat and sat, likewise her.
"Uh, your room is really nice. Well arranged, at least you're not like some other ninth graders I know." She said, obviously avoiding another awkward silence.
I was guessing the 'other ninth grader' was Adam.
"Oh, yeah. Thanks." I smiled.
"So, are your parents always out like this?"
"No, not really. My Mom is always home with us, while my Dad works on weekdays, and usually comes back very late in the night."
"Oh, so why aren't they home today? It's the weekend. They should be home."
"Actually, they both went to a friend's baby shower."
"Right."
"How would you get home? Now that my sister's here and you know I can't let her see you."
Why did I ask such a dumb question?
"I dunno. It's your house, you should be able to figure out how to get me out of here."
"True. But there's only one way back out - the door you came in through. And Judy's not getting out of there soon. I know that for sure."
"I can wait. My parents don't really care about my whereabouts."
"Oh, I'm uh, sorry about that."
"You shouldn't be. There's someone that does."
"Who?"
"Adam."
"Adam?" I asked.
"Yeah, Adam. Ever since the transplant happened, Adam has always been with me, monitoring my every move, protecting me-"
"So he doesn't know you're here?" I impatiently asked.
"He doesn't. He went off to somewhere, probably a party or something." She scoffed.
"Oh. So you wouldn't have come here if he didn't go to that party?"
"Yes. And now I have to figure out how to leave here before he gets back."
Just then, an idea popped in my head.
"I think I know how to get you out of here, but you'll have to stay quiet and trust me." I said.
"That shouldn't be hard."
I rose to my feet, ready to put my plan into action.
"Stay here. When you uh, hear me whistle, you gotta get out of here and join me in the living room, and I get you out of here. Okay?"
"Alright Mr planner." She mused.
I loved the way she smiled.
I walked out of the bedroom to the living room and was totally taken aback with what I saw.
Judy wasn't there. I looked around, but still, no Judy. So I whistled for Emily and she appeared after a few seconds.
"Where's your sister?" She whispered.
"I don't know. She wasn't here when I got here." I whispered back.
"Geez. Your sister's very unpredictable. I thought you said she wasn't getting out of here soon, and now she's..." She stopped when she saw my do-you-want-to-talk-or-get-out-of-here look.
I sighed.
"Okay, now you can go back home. But you have to make it quick, so you don't meet Judy on the way." That would be disastrous.
"Yeah. Thanks a lot Daniel."
"Thanks for what?" I asked.
"For the adventure of course. You should have seen the look on your face when Judy drove into the driveway." She said as we both laughed.
"Bye Danny." She added.
Somehow, I didn't want her to leave, but she had to, so Adam didn't find out she was here."
"Bye Emily. See you at school."
"Bye." And leaning close to me, she gave me a light kiss on the cheek.
Then she was gone.
"Yeah, that just happened". I mumbled with a big smile.
I switched on the television and crashed into a sofa.
After about fifteen minutes, Judy walked in.
"Hey bro." She slapped my shoulder.
"Where did you go?"
"The place that's none of your business." She said, walking into her room.
I just shook my head.
Daniel's POV.I gripped my right leg as unimaginable pain shot up my leg, causing me to yell in pain. I glanced down at my shot leg. My trousers were now wet with thick blood, dripping from the bullet wound. Everywhere was wet with blood. I could hardly focus on anything as a new surge of pain crept up my leg. I looked around. Everywhere was dark and creepy. No one was going to save me. I was hopeless. I was just going to die here. I could feel my sight getting all blurry. There was nothing I could do without yelling from the pain in my leg, I wanted to crawl up to the car and manage to drive to any nearby hospital but the idea soon dissolved in my head as I felt myself losing focus. I felt suddenly tired and yearned to lie my head on the ground as one yearned for water when thirsty. I didn't want to die. I couldn't die now, I just couldn't. But I was losing so much blood. I glanced down at my leg, blinking away the tears that had accumulated at my eyelids to se
Adam's lips trembled as the bat hit the ground after falling from his hand. His expression softened for a bit while he looked at me, but when he looked at Daniel, his expression became as hard as stone."I am going to kill you," Adam said to Daniel. I swallowed, unable to comprehend the events unfolding right in front of me."Adam..." I started, but I couldn't finish it. I couldn't say a word when Adam turned to look at me."You..." He pointed at me, taking one step towards me. I took one step back. He suddenly sighed as he stared at me, and brought his hand down. "How do you betray me like this?" His voice cracked. For the first time since I'd known Adam, I heard his voice crack. He sniffed as he continued. "You left our house...you left your home when I was I trouble. You ran away.""Adam, I didn't - ""No, don't interrupt me," Adam said in a cool voice. This was all too
After about thirty minutes of driving in absolute silence, we finally got to the mall, and, fortunately, we still had another thirty minutes to spare at the mall before they closed the place. As we got out of the car, I made sure to pick all my belongings, especially my phone, I couldn't afford to forget it the second time. Daniel looked at me and took his hand out of his pocket, sliding it in mine as we walked into the mall.Something in my heart fluttered. I was holding hands with Daniel."Don't hold my hand," I said as I tried to remove my fingers from his hand but he gripped my hand tighter."No," he simply said as we walked deeper into the building, nearing the escalator."Leave me," I protested, wiggling my fingers from his grasp. He sighed and finally let me go. I felt a little bad for myself, and him because as much as I wanted to hold hands with him, it just wasn't proper. I was pregnant and
"Come on, Daniel, hurry up," I urged, watching Daniel put on his right shoe, tying the laces as he struggled to button his sleeves at the same time.It was a month later, after I'd settled down in my new home and forgotten all about my past life. . .yeah, I wish I could. I never did. We were in Daniel's house the fateful evening, after Daniel had offered to take me on a shopping spree a few hours ago. I got all dressed up and prettied up only to come find Daniel sleeping in his house. When I woke him up, he'd confessed and told me that it was just a prank, and me, well, being me, forced him and made him agree to taking me on the spree. For two weeks, Daniel had been trying to teach me how to drive. He said it's simple and easy if you concentrate but I found it rather tough. I still hadn't gotten the hang of it yet.Daniel introduced me to a friend of his who worked at an oil and gas company, who said he liked
"For three? Wait, you want to- ""Yes, I want to eat some bacon, how hard is that to understand?!" She shot at me, earning herself a frown-y glare."O...kay, no need for the yelling," Daniel turned around and waved the spoon in his hand in the space between Ashley and I, "and the glaring." He said, looking at me. I shook my head, and waved Ashley off. She went to Daniel and put her arms around him, pressing her chest on his back. She could touch him for all I cared, but yelling at me was not part of the options she had to choose from the list of things that she could and couldn't do, in my own house."Uh, I'm cooking Ashley, get off me." Daniel said, trying to wiggle her off his back but she still held on tight. I stood there and just watched."Why? You smell so nice." She cooed. It made me want to puke, how she talked."Ugh, seriously I need you to get off me, I'm going to
"Hold on, let me get this," Daniel said, holding up one finger as I nodded to him. He brought his phone out of his shirt pocket and I moved towards the kitchen cabinet. I retrieved some frying pans and finally settled on a medium sized one to use to fry eggs. I was suddenly in the mood for Daniel's bacon and eggs and I wanted him to teach me how he made such a delicious delicacy."Good afternoon to you too, Ashley." I heard him say behind me. It was that Ashley girl again. Ugh, she had really perfect timing."Why are you asking that?" Daniel asked, walking slowly, to and fro the kitchen. I brought out some eggs from the bags Daniel had helped me carry inside and started to crack them."I know I've never had a problem with you asking where I am but...I don't know, I'm quite busy now, can we talk later?" He asked. I removed some eggshells from the bowl I cracked the eggs into and headed to the gas cooker to light it up.
