view moreBirds shrieked in alarm as they scattered in different directions. The sounds of howls and snapping of branches could be heard in the far distance, the moon that hung high cast an eerie atmosphere in the surroundings.
Eleanor stumbled through the dense forest with her bloody bare feet. The sounds of paws drew nearer than she would have hoped. Snarls filled the air and the rustling of broken twigs reached her ears from behind, drawing her attention.E
Eleanor came to an abrupt halt, swiftly moving to the side, barely avoiding the claws that were aimed at her neck.
“Bloody bastards” she gave a low growl as the wolves surrounded her, their eyes showed a dangerous glint, and the predators now stalked their prey.
Her eyes narrowed at the wolves and her breath came out uneven as they bared their fangs at her, inching closer. She looked around for an escape route, since that was the only thing she could do in this situation.
She had to fulfill her promise to him.
Shifting her stance and with a sudden burst of speed, she charged towards one of the wolves that appeared slightly weaker than the others. In a blur of motion, she jumped on its neck and twisted it, the breaking of bones reaching her ears.
But she didn't have the chance to relax because one of the other wolves leaped at her, and she roughly collided with a tree. She groaned and coughed out blood, her injured body struggling to finally get up as she wiped the blood with her arm.
“Just give up already, my dear Eleanor” a deep and muscular voice rang out.
The wolves surrounding her suddenly moved back, their heads bowed in submission as they parted ways for their leader.
A man came into view, his long hair fell past his shoulders and his presence alone commanded respect.
“Traitor” Eleanor's voice is dipped in venom and her wolf, which had been forcibly locked up, tried to resurface to tear the man before her into shreds. “You betrayed everyone. We all trusted you!”
Ethan chuckled and crossed his arms, his head tilting back just a little.
“Trust” he repeated, the word sounded foreign coming from him, he shrugged and smirked, it wasn't his fault that they were fools enough to trust him. “Trust, my dear, is for the weak,” he remarked with a tone of certainty.
Eleanor sucked in a breath as she watched him, the person she once knew now replaced by a stranger. He felt no guilt or remorse, but how could he betray him of all people?
“You will never be Alpha” She spat her words through clenched teeth. Her fist tightened by her side as she confronted Ethan. She knew her words would only anger him, but she had to bid time for the pack reinforcement, and keeping him distracted for the time being was the only way to win, to ensure everyone’s survival.
Ethan's expression turned furious and the cracking of bones could be heard as he shifted to his wolf. A large black wolf came into sight, its fur as dark as the abyss and his eyes seemed to glow under the reflection of the moonlight.
There was a snot, and before she could react, the wolf lunged itself at her. Using one of his paws to pin her down, he leaned closer, his canines close to her neck and his claws dug deeper into her arm.
“Watch your tone” The wolf sneered and Eleanor hissed in pain, her eyes changing to the color of her wolf as she tried to fight against the poison that restrained her wolf. “I am the rightful Alpha, not him.”
Just a little more time, please. She silently prayed to the Goddess.
She gave him no reply and he continued.
“So would you rather die here or submit to me” the voice came again in a low growl in her head, challenging her to dare resist.
But they both knew that her fate had been destined to die here.
Finally,
She smiled when she caught a sniff of the familiar scent and relief washed over her. He was close by and that meant he succeeded in warding off the ambush. Everything was going to be fine, everyone was going to be saved.
“Fuck you” her voice barely came out more than a whisper as her hand gripped the silver dagger strapped under her dress. Her reflexes were still quite fast in her human form and the blade sank into the wolf’s flesh.
The sound of an angry howl shook the forest and the enraged wolf sunk its fangs into her neck.
Eleanor gasped in pain and the hand gripping the dagger fell to her side. She knew she couldn't kill him, but she was happy she could inflict as much pain as she could.
Under the watchful eyes of the moon, her breath is ragged as the cold embrace of death slowly wraps around her. Blood gushed out of her wounds, tainting the once snow-white dress. Her eyes are unfocused as she sees the silhouette of a man sprinting towards her.
“Eleanor!” The man’s figure cradled her body tightly, desperate to find any sign of life, any reassurance from her gradually dull expression, even a false hope would do.
“Please, Eleanor please…” he pleaded, his voice breaking at the end.
Her hand, despite being weak, stretched out to wipe the falling tears, the man sobbed, whispering words of assurance, but they both knew who they were for.
“I'm sorry, I couldn't fulfill the promise” Eleanor whispered through painful gasps, her voice barely audible, but he heard it. His grip on her tightened, refusing to face the cruel reality, he muttered under his breath, but she couldn't hear his words anymore because her life began to slip away with each passing moment.
Her once unfocused eyes began to close and her beating chest laid still.
“You will be fine, you will be fine” he seemed to be in a trance as he mumbled to himself. He couldn't hear the calls of his beta nor could he hear the cries of the fallen. No one could pull him away from the body that gradually turned cold.
He pleaded, he yelled, he prayed, and he cursed, but he was met with broken silence.
No way the powerful wolf before her just licked her cheek and wagged his tail.Dorothy couldn't tear her eyes away from the wolf before her, her head tilted in confusion. Of all the scenarios she had imagined, this was nowhere close—it was far beyond anything she'd expected.“I—” She started, her voice breaking the heavy silence, hoping to dispel the awkward tension. But before she could say more, the wolf cut her off.Her heart sank as she heard his deep voice through the mindlink.“Mate. You’re here, you’re really here,” the wolf said, his voice brimming with excitement as he jumped up, a wide smile stretching across his face. But instead of calming Dorothy, the sight only made her more uneasy. That smile wasn’t comforting—it was the kind of smile killers wore right before striking their targets. Her eyes widened so much she feared they might pop out of their sockets.Ace? Oh, my goddess. It was Ace. Of all people, it had to be him. The one person she had prayed never to encounter a
Dorothy paced through the room, her steps heavy as she frowned, her hand rubbing her chin in deep thought—thoughts that were immediately interrupted by the loud growl of her stomach. She wrapped her arms around her midsection and sighed, dropping to the ground in defeat. She was so hungry. She hadn’t eaten anything all day, and all she could do was wander aimlessly, trying to keep herself busy since she couldn’t go outside. The last thing she wanted was to step out and find the devil of an Alpha waiting right outside the door, ready to chop her head off before she could say a word.So now, all she could do was pace and pretend she was lost in thought about how her life might unfold. But no matter how much she tried, every scenario she imagined ended the same way.Chop. Her life, over.“Alya, I'm so hungry,” Dorothy moaned, but Alya didn’t reply. She went dead silent, a wave of anger brewing within her. Earlier, Dorothy had gotten so furious about everything that she had cursed Ace out
Ace barged into his study, his sharp gaze immediately landing on Lucas and Sophia, who sprang to their feet and bowed in respect at the Alpha's arrival. With a curt nod of acknowledgment, Ace strode to his seat with the confidence of a man who commanded the world. He sank into the chair, leaning back lazily as his piercing eyes narrowed for a brief moment. It was happening again—the daze. Only this time, it wasn’t Eleanor, the woman who constantly haunted his thoughts. No, this time, it was Dorothy. Troublesome. Annoying. A constant thorn in his side. His lips twitched as if caught between a scowl and a laugh. He sighed, rubbing the bridge of his nose before snapping back to reality, his eyes cold and detached as he asked, "Have you gotten any information about him yet?" Lucas and Sophia exchanged a brief, hesitant glance, pausing for a moment. Damn it. The Alpha seemed angrier and more terrifying than usual. Who would've thought Ace could get any scarier? They hadn't imagined it
“Fucking bastard!”Dorothy muttered under her breath, her eyes narrowed into a glare, her lips drawn into a childish pout, and her arms crossed tightly. And all of these expressions were while she was carried over Ace’s shoulder like a sack of potatoes.Let’s rewind a bit.Ace was carrying Dorothy toward the packhouse without the slightest change in expression. His usual composure, his emotionless demeanor, seemed carved deep within his bones, while Dorothy, in stark contrast, was more human—she felt things, and she expressed them. As people froze in shock and whispered around her about how a girl was being carried by the infamous Alpha King, her face turned bright red. She stared at Ace’s back, hitting and screaming for him to let her down.“She hit the king! She’s going to die!” The conversation quickly shifted to gossip about how she’d dared to hit Ace, and she froze, realizing what she had done. But before she could even utter an apology, Ace did something unexpected. He spanked h
“So you’re saying you want to take her with you?” Ace asked, pointing a finger at Dorothy, an eyebrow raised in dry amusement.Dorothy instinctively hid further behind Killian as she felt Ace’s gaze sweep over her for a brief moment. Her heart pounded in her chest, and she froze when she felt the suffocating killing intent radiating from him.She was scared shitless, even her wolf who seemed to have a brain as small as a mustard seed whimpered and didn't dare say a word. Now, imagine how Killian must’ve felt. The full brunt of that killing intent was directed at him. Before Dorothy could process what was happening, she watched in stunned silence as Killian’s legs buckled beneath him, and he crumpled to the ground. Blood sprayed from his mouth, his body shaking violently as he coughed, desperately trying to fight against the wave of pain threatening to consume him.“A-Alpha!” Dorothy gasped, her eyes wide with horror and disbelief. Without thinking, she rushed to Killian’s side, kneeli
“What do you think you’re doing?” Ace’s voice was ice cold, his eyebrow arched as he took in the scene before him. His so-called mate was in the arms of another man—another man, one he swore he’d seen before but couldn't remember. Ace’s cold, empty eyes locked onto Killian, his gaze sharp enough to cut through steel. It was a look that made Killian feel a chill race down his spine. Without thinking, his grip on Dorothy loosened, and he instinctively stepped back, his muscles stiffening with the silent, deadly tension that filled the air. This killing intent—Killian had never felt anything like it before. And he’d been in his fair share of trouble. Killian was the kind of person who, no matter how chilled he tried to be, ended up in all sorts of messes, most of them caused by his own damnable good looks.Women flocked to him, unable to resist his charm, and their husbands? Well, they weren’t exactly thrilled about it, especially the Alphas who picked fights with him on the regular.Bu
