CHAPTER 4

Micaela’s major strong point was the daggers and knives. She was also perfect in sniper rifle and that made her the best killing machine the academy ever had. They even gave her a nickname due to her mysterious self ‘Mystery K’. She never failed to complete a mission and she hated working in teams. She always thought working alone would allow her to move faster and complete the mission more easily. In her previous team, they had worked together for a couple of years and she had gotten comfortable with the idea of working in teams. This however changed when half her team was killed in a mission. They had gotten a mysterious tip only to realize that it was a set up but it was too late. Some of the remaining part of the team were left traumatized and were given desk jobs.

The seniors saw that she was having a hard time dealing with their deaths and decided to transfer her to another team. Maybe they would create a family for her like the former team had. She had tried to argue that she could complete the missions on her own which was true but they were worried about her. She threatened to leave the army but they knew how much she loved it. It then remained that the decision was final. She was going to join a different team in a few days. She tried asking what her new teammates looked like but the details were left hidden. She thought of breaking in her superior’s office just to read their files but decided against it.

On the other end Major General Malcom Angus had just received Intel that there would be an addition to his team that dealt with special ops. When he looked into the file of the new incoming lieutenant, he knew that it was a great addition. He called the team to his office to inform them about the news. Lieutenant Duhamel was the first to enter the office followed by the other three. They had worked together and had become close to one another. Their families knew each other since they visited during the holidays therefore they were practically family. Fitting a new member was not going to be easy but it had to happen anyways.

“You called for us sir?” Sergeant Duhamel asked.

“Sit down guys, and yes I did call for you since I have an announcement to make. As from tomorrow we are going to expect a new lieutenant to join one of our teams,” General Malcom stated.

He could see the team get nervous probably wondering what that had to do with them. Lieutenant Grayson who was the youngest member in the team seemed to have put the puzzle together as a look of understanding crossed his face. The general was pleased to see that at least one person understood what he was trying to say. The young lieutenant remained quiet waiting for the General to confirm his thoughts.

“What has that got to do with us being here sir?” Sergeant Duhamel asked.

“Patience sergeant, I was getting to that. So as I was saying the new lieutenant will be arriving tomorrow and will be joining your team. Now before any of you start complaining, please know the decision has been made and nothing is going to change that,” he announces.

He could hear complains and mummers of displease especially from Sergeant Duhamel but he thought that the new addition would do the team some good. A girl would sure change the team for the better or at least that was what he thought. He did not voice his thoughts that the new member would be female and decided that they had to wait and be surprised. Giving personal files was not allowed so he only gave them the name. Since they addressed one another in surnames, he knew that they thought lieutenant Elrod was male.
