CHAPTER 2

She was young when all this happened but that did not mean she never knew what was going on. When the police officers arrived at the scene they called for an ambulance and tried to ask her what had happened but she seemed to be in a daze. They knew that she was in shock and the events that happened would catch up with her real soon. The dead bodies were taken away and she stayed in the same position unfazed. She then turned to the pool of blood surrounding her and then looked at her bloody clothes and hands. This seemed to be the deal breaker for her as she let out a blood curdling scream that had everyone startled. Every grown up in the room pitied her. Their hearts ached for her, to think what she had witnessed.

She did not know what happened after but she woke up later in a hospital bed with wires connected to her. She then remembered what had happened and let out a scream that had nurses running in her room. She had not said a word about the incidence and the doctors were worried. Such trauma could only be cured through therapy, which did not always work. Her blood pressure was spiking and her heart rate was high causing the monitor to beep continuously. The doctors injected her with some sleeping drug that would help her relax. The police officers and investigators outside in the waiting room were getting anxious. They needed her statement on what had happened so as to solve the case. She was their only witness.

Micaela woke up the following day and she looked out the window wondering what her life was going to be like once she was discharged. Her friends from school came to visit but she did not utter a word. She did not even look to see who had come. Her gaze was only at the window in her hospital room. Her doctor would check up on her from time to time. Later that day her uncle from her father’s side came to visit together with his wife and their two children. She remained in the same position not uttering a word. The only reaction she had was when anyone mentioned her parents and her reaction was silent tears. Everyone was getting worried about her. The doctors said that it was normal for someone who had gone through a traumatizing effect.

She was discharged two days later when the doctors were sure her condition was stable. Her uncle took custody of her since she was sixteen and was still a minor. She had to shift schools since her uncle lived far from her home. She lost contact with her friends and never spoke to them again. Her life went on as usual and but everyone who knew her from before would tell that she was never the same. She had been so bubbly and happy but all that had changed now. She never smiled and never bothered to take care of her personal appearance. To her she had died that day together with her parent. What everyone saw was a shell of her former self. The investigators had tried asking what had transpired on that day but in was all in vain.

Her little cousins tried to cheer her up but to no avail. Due to lack of witnesses, the culprits were never caught and so the case was ruled out as a robbery gone bad. This had Micaela fuming but she never uttered a word. She knew better than to believe that it was a robbery. She was there when it happened and she was not a detective or anything but she knew that the intruders’ only intention was to kill her parents. Nothing was missing from her house, they had taken nothing but her parents.
