“Took you long enough.” I heard him say from the other end of the phone.

I’m sure he must be wearing a triumphant smirk right now.

“Why me?” I asked with a cracked voice.

Tears were already rolling down my face.

He was silent for a while before he answered.

“That’s simply because I know you need the money.” He said, sounding unsure of himself.

Seriously?

He was making such a stupid offer because he wanted to give me a better life?

“So you think you can just impose on me because I don’t have the money you have?” I asked him, feeling angry.

“I’ll pick you up later today, 4pm, sharp. Be ready.” He said, ignoring my question.

“No!” I interjected almost immediately.

I could imagine he had a frown on his face.

“I mean, I would rather come to you.” I said to him.

“Your dad, right? Trust me, I can relate.” He said, sounding frustrated.

“What?”

“Meet me at the bar you used to work.” He said before hanging up.
