MasukThe café felt too small for Ethan Kim.
He stood in the doorway, tall and composed, his suit perfectly pressed, his gaze unreadable.
Every eye turned toward him- some in recognition, others in awe. But his attention was fixed on only one person.
Mira Bennett.
She froze, her thoughts scrambling into chaos. She had seen him before- on magazine covers, in glossy features about "The Most Eligible Bachelor in Aurelis" in the engagement announcement beside her sister's photo- but seeing him here, real and breathing, hits different.
He moved toward her table slowly, his footsteps deliberate, his presence magnetic and terrifying all at once.
"Mira Bennet," he said softly, sliding into the seat opposite her. "I believe you know who I am."
Her mouth went dry. "E-Ethan Kim."
He nodded once. "Good. That saves us the unnecessary pleasantries."
For a moment, neither spoke. The hum of conversation around them blurred into background noise.
Then Ethan placed his phone on the table. On the screen were the very photos she'd sent him- her sister, Liana, smiling sweetly at another man's face in a dark bar.
"Recognize these?" he asked quietly.
Mira's heart pounded in her chest,. "Where did you get- "
"You sent them," he cut in. "Don't mess with me by denying it."
Mira leaned backwards in her seat, putting on her best poker face.
"You don't have proof."
"I don't need proof," Ethan replied, leaning forward.
His tone was calm, but his eyes were sharp as glass. "You're the only one who could have known where she'd be. You're the only one who hates her enough to risk this."
Silence. Mira stared down at her trembling hands.
Finally, she whispered, "I didn't do it to hurt you."
"Then why?"
Her throat tightened. The truth came out in a raw whisper. "Because she ruins everything she touches. She took everything I ever had, my mother's care, and then-" her voice cracked, "she took the man I loved."
Ethan studied her for a long time, the faintest flicker of understanding softening his gaze. "The boyfriend," he said slowly. "Adrian Cho."
Mira looked up sharply. "You know about him?"
He gave a humorless smile. "Your sister mentioned him once. Said you were dramatic over 'some college fling.' She never said she stole him."
Mira swallowed hard. "She didn't just steal him. She made me think I wasn't worth loving. And now she was going to do the same to you."
Ethan leaned back, folding his arms. "You think I'm so naïve?"
"I think you're human," she said quietly. "You love her. That's enough."
The words hung between them, uncomfortably true.
Ethan exhaled slowly, his composure cracking for the first time. "Loved," he corrected. "Past tense."
Mira met his gaze, her voice trembling but firm. "Then why are you still marrying her?"
"Because image matters," he said. "Business partners are already invited. Investors, politicians- people who believe I have a perfect life."
"So, you'll pretend not to know?" she asked bitterly.
"No," he said. "I'll rewrite the story."
Before Mira could respond, Ethan pulled out a small envelope from his suit pocket and placed it on the table. Inside were papers- a contract, neatly typed, legally bound.
Mira frowned and leaned towards him. "What's this?"
Ethan's voice dropped lower, his tone cold but deliberate. "A proposal".
She watched him cautiously. "What kind of proposal?"
"The kind that saves face- for both of us." He met her eyes. "You hate her. I can no longer stand being her fool. So marry me instead."
The words hit her like a slap. She stared at him, disbelief mixing with fear. "You're insane."
"Maybe" he said, unbothered. "But it's the only way she loses everything."
Mira shook her head. "You want revenge? Fine. But why drag me into it?"
"Because you started it." His tone hardened. "You exposed her. Now you'll finish what you began."
Her chest ached. "This isn't a game, Mr. Kim."
"Everything is a game," he replied. "The question is who wins."
He pushed the contract toward her. "We marry legally. Publicly. You play the role of the perfect bride. After a set period- a year, you walk away with a generous settlement and your freedom. Meanwhile, your sister loses her reputation, and my name stays clean."
Mira stared at the document, her reflection staring back at her in the glossy paper. "And what if I refuse?"
"Then I tell Liana who sent me the photos," he said softly and leaned back in his chair. "She'll make your life a living hell. And something tells me she already enjoys that."
Mira's throat tightened. It wasn't an empty threat- she knew exactly what Liana was capable of. Her sister wouldn't just ruin her. She'd humiliate her publicly, destroy whatever fragile peace she had left.
Ethan leaned closer, his voice lowering to a near whisper. "You wanted her to pay. This is how it happens."
She looked up, meeting his eyes- and what she saw wasn't cruelty. It was pain, quiet and buried deep beneath layers of control.
"You're hurt," she said softly.
"So are you."
The words felt heavier than any contract.
For a long time, neither spoke. The sound of a spoon clinking against porcelain somewhere in the café was the only sound audible.
Finally, Mira exhaled. "You don't know what you're asking me to do."
"I'm asking you," Ethan said, a little impatiently, "to let her know what it feels like to lose."
Mira's fingers brushed the edge of the paper. She wanted to say no, to walk away, to keep what little dignity she had left - but she thought of her mother's voice two nights ago, dismissive and sharp:
"He was just your boyfriend, Mira. Not a CEO. You'll find another man someday if you stop moping."
Her mother had laughed afterward, as if Mira's heartbreak was entertainment.
That laughter echoed in her head now, blending with her sister's smug look, her ex-boyfriend's betrayal, and the image of Liana standing beside this man in white.
Mira closed her eyes. "If I agree, what happens to her?"
Ethan's expression didn't change, but something dark glinted behind his calm. "She'll watch you take her place."
The weight of those words settled over the table like storm clouds.
Mira's pulse thundered in her ears. "You really mean it."
"Absolutely."
He slid a pen toward her. "You have until the wedding day to decide. I won't ask twice."
Ethan rose, adjusting his suit. "Think carefully, Miss Bennett. A chance for revenge rarely comes twice."
He turned and walked away, his footsteps echoing across the polished floor.
Mira sat frozen, staring at the contract, her heart beating so loud it drowned out the café's chatter.
Outside, the world looked normal. People laughed, cars passed, sunlight poured through the glass - but for Mira, everything had shifted.
She had come here chasing revenge.
Now revenge was staring her in the face, wearing a wedding ring.
Mira turned in bed, hugging her belly tightly. She strongly disliked Ethan Kim.... she really did! But right now she really needed food. She had been so concerned about their plan failing at the wedding that she hadn't eaten anything all day."F*ck it". She muttered under her breath and slid her legs into her slippers.Mira slowly walked down the stairs, careful not to make any sound. She couldn't help the gasp that escaped her lips. The beauty of Ethan Kim's home still caught her off-guard, the chandelier glittered like diamonds scattered across the ceiling.Mira stopped in her tracks, the dining table was long enough to hold a political summit. At the head sat Ethan Kim, perfectly composed, perfectly cold, perfectly..... irritating. He had no plate before him but instead he had a tablet in his hands, which he lazily scrolled on."You are late". Ethan said without looking up.Mira blinked, searching for the right words."Were you waiting for me?". Ethan finally looked at her, like th
The car came to a smooth stop, jerking Mira back to reality. She sat up and gasped at the mansion that stood in front of her, she had seen big houses before, but nothing mentally prepared her for this.Ethan Kim's house was impossibly tall, impossibly wide, impossibly perfect. Its glass walls reflected the late afternoon's sun like mirrors, making it look almost unreal. A fountain gushed silently in front, sending delicate ripples across a crystal-clear pool.Mira swallowed hard. This...is Ethan's world.Ethan stepped out first, keeping his hands in his pockets, his expression completely unreadable. "Come on", he said sparing her just a glance. His tone was flat, almost dismissive.Mira quietly followed, feeling the weight of the house pressing down on her. The automatic doors parted as they approached, revealing an entrance hall so grand it made Mira's heart skip a beat. A sweeping staircase curved upward, the railings made of polished glass that gleamed under soft golden lights. Ma
The sound of wedding bells echoed faintly through the cathedral, their rhythm steady, indifferent - as if they had no idea how wrong this ceremony truly was.Mira stood before the grand mirror in a dressing suite larger than her entire apartment, her reflection covered in white. The silk gown hugged her frame perfectly, the lace delicate and foreign against her skin. She had been in a daze since she signed the contract - or maybe since Ethan's words that day:"You wanted her to lose everything. This is how it happens."And now, here she was, about to destroy her sister's perfect world. Her palms were cold. Her throat, tight. She didn't feel like a bride. She felt like a ghost. The door opened behind her. Ethan stepped in, dressed in black, elegant as ever, but with that same cold calm that never cracked. He didn't look at her immediately. Instead, he adjusted his cufflinks, his reflection meeting hers in the mirror."You're shaking" he said quietly. She forced a weak smile. "I didn't

The following morning, sunlight spilled across the marble floors of the Kim Corporation penthouse, but Ethan Kim didn't notice. He had spent the entire night in his study, the email still open on his laptop, the photos replaying in his mind like a broken film reel.Several times he tried to convince himself that the pictures were fake, and yet another detail betrayed him- the angle of Liana's smile, the exact shade of her lipstick, the bracelet he had bought her gleaming on her wrist while she leaned toward another man.He had built his life on logic, not emotion. Business decisions, acquisitions, partnerships- all data, all facts. But this... this was personal. At 7:10 a.m., his phone rang.It was his private investigator, Lee Chan, a man who handled problems discreetly for the Kim family.Ethan answered without preamble."I need you to find out where Liana Bennet was on the nights of June 8, June 14, and July 3. Quietly.""Understood, sir.""And, Lee- if these photos are fake, I wil
The city glowed below the window of the mansion– a perfect picture of the luxury and calm that mirrored his life– or so he thought.Ethan Kim leaned back in his chair, a smile tugging at the corner of his lips as his gaze lingered on the picture glowing on his phone’s screen.Liana.She was just perfect! Her smile was polished and soft– the kind that made him want to start believing in things he had stopped believing in years ago.Her dark hair framed her face perfectly, her eyes glowing like she had been born just for the spotlight. His eyes held a longing look as he traced his thumb over the picture, softly grazing the engagement ring he had given her few weeks ago.“Just two weeks”, he told himself. “And she will be my wife”.Ethan had met Liana at a charity gala 8 months ago. She‘d seemed just as perfect then– kind, gentle, a woman who saw him for who he truly was. Right there and then, he knew she was the right one for him. Liana had made him feel….normal. Wanted for who he was
