The silence is oppressive. We're down a man, and we all missed where the ones are. Their senses heightened, their hunger for blood increased. And at this attack came from. A low snarl churns at our left, another at our right. They're closing in on us like wolves on a kill, ironic, as we are wolves. But they're alphas, corrupted point, we're sitting in their den.

“Hold formation!” I shout on pack coming, my heart pounding along with the thud of our footsteps on wet mud.

Suddenly, a dark blur slices through the trees. A spear flies, no, is thrown and pierces a warrior through the shoulder. He drops to a knee but doesn’t fall. Before I can react, two rogue alphas crash into the circle from opposite ends.

“Attack pattern Delta!” I shout.

The fighters shatter the formation with perfect discipline, flipping the circle upside down and closing in on the attackers. I jump into the melee, claws out, ripping at the alpha closest to me. He parries with a snarl, my strength met by his. He charges; I dodge, spinning mid-air and impaling my claws into his side. He screams.

In front of me, my dad is struggling. He’s fast, but this feral is unpredictable, unbalanced. Beta Jon’s sword even has blood on it as he’s fighting another feral rogue blow-for-blow. These aren’t feral rogues you can find on any street. These are trained.

Something isn’t right.

A roar interrupts the commotion, freezing everyone in mid-blow. It’s not human. It’s not a wolf. It’s something else.

Every set of eyes looks toward the origin. The underbrush separates, and a huge creature emerges into the clearing. He stands tall, at least eight feet high, with luminescent crimson eyes, twisted horns, and skin with more armor plating than human skin. Not a lone rogue alpha.

A mutant.

“Oh goddess…” someone gasps.

I don't hesitate. "Break formation! Fall back!" I shout, but it is too late.

The mutant charges, barreling through our warriors like they’re nothing. I launch myself at him, blades drawn, aiming for his throat. He swings his arm like a club. I block, but the force sends me flying into a tree. My bones scream. I drop to one knee.

A scream pierces the air. I look up in time to see Marco, no, Marco thrown across the field like a ragdoll. He’s coughing up blood, eyes wide in disbelief.

Martin rushes to his side. “Marco! Stay with me!”

“I’m fine. I think.” Marco grunts, obviously not fine.

We’re losing.

“I must change,” I whisper. My wolf, Luna, scratches at the corners of my thoughts, eager to assume command.

Let me out, she growls. We fight together.

I let go.

Fur erupts on my skin, my bones shift with a typical, groaning crack, and my paws hit the earth. Golden eyes flash by moonlight. My wolf is shorter than many, but faster, quicker. I dart at the mutant back and forth on the field. He has a bead on me, good. He sets himself to swat, but I leap, whirl on a pivot point within the air, and scrape across his face.

He howls in rage.

“You want war?!” I howl back, landing beside my father. “You’ll have it.”

He’s bleeding, but alive. He moves too- enormously, powerfully, his body looms over mine. We fight alongside each other, father and daughter, Alpha and heir.

But then,

A piercing cry interrupts my concentration.

My eyes flash about and stop.

Carlos.

Hiding behind trees. Observing. Not engaging. Not rescuing. And smiling.

  • THE BLOODLINE’S LUNA   CHAPTER 11: Marked by Darkness

Liosha’s POVThe temperature was low, but I barely felt it. The cold didn’t matter. Nothing did, really, not after what we’d seen. That stranger’s presence still clung to everything: the trees, the soil, the air. Even the moon felt different. Smaller. Like it was hiding. The mark on my palm synced with the pounding of my heartbeat. But… I no longer recognized it as my own. It was like something else had slipped inside the rhythm.Sebastian walked beside me, quiet as ever. Like if he made a sounds loud, something inside me might crack. We reached the courtyard, and the guards outside the east stood upright, gaze shifting between us like they could sense something had changed.Inside, the council waited. And Ezra.He didn’t look dangerous. Young. Maybe eighteen, though his eyes felt older. He stood inside the circle of elders like he wasn’t afraid of a single person in that room. Like he’d been here before—in some other version of the world. My father leaned against a broken pillar nea

  • THE BLOODLINE’S LUNA   CHAPTER 10: The Violet-Eyed Threat

Liosha’s POVThe clearing is wrecked.Trees splintered. Grass scorched black. Blood soaked into the ground, already drying into something ugly. Everything smells like smoke and metal. But none of that is what has my heart racing. It’s the way he left. The stranger didn’t run.He simply vanished. Like breath slipping from a dying body.No sound. No grand exit.Just… gone.I place a hand to my stomach. The twins stir beneath my skin, uneasy, twitching like they sensed something unfinished. Like he touched them and left a piece behind.Sebastian hasn’t moved from my side. His hand remains firm on my arm. Steady. Protective. His eyes haven’t left the treeline.“He knew,” I whisper.Sebastian doesn’t look at me. “He knew what you carried.”I nod. “He didn’t come to kill us tonight. That wasn’t the point.”Sebastian finally turns to me. “Then what was?”I exhale slowly. “To show us what’s coming.”And then, behind us.Someone claps slowly.Followed by a voice I thought we were finally done w

  • THE BLOODLINE’S LUNA   CHAPTER 9: The Bond and the Bloodshed

Liosha’s POVThe howls cut through the mist like blades, sharp, sudden, and close.Sebastian’s head snaps toward the treeline, his entire body going still. Alert. Coiled like a storm about to break. I hear them too.Not mutants this time.Wolves.Real ones.Rogues. Starving, wild, the kind that hunt for thrill, not survival. The kind that don’t stop unless you tear them down.My father is on his feet, barely. He sways like a tree in the wind. Jon tries to rise beside him but crumples back to the dirt with a grunt of pain. We’re spread thin. Too thin. The pack’s barely holding up.Sebastian steps ahead of the rest of us, scanning the darkness between trees like he knows it personally.“A dozen, maybe more,” he mutters, voice tight. From the side, Carlos spits blood and struggles upright, his lip curled.“You brought them,” he snarls.Sebastian doesn’t even look at him. “No,” he says, calm as stone. “You did. Traitors leave a scent.”Carlos’s shoulders tighten. “You don’t belong here.”S

  • THE BLOODLINE’S LUNA   Chapter 8: Whispers of the Cradle

“Mate,” I whispered. The word left my lips like a spark, but inside, it was wildfire. Something ancient in me stirred. Not thought. Not memory.Instinct.He stepped into view through the broken circle of trees, bare-chested, blood-streaked, aura rolling off him like a storm. Not his blood. His arms were stained with someone else’s. His presence hit like thunder, wild and terrifying… and familiar.Carlos groaned beside me, trying to push himself upright. “What the hell is this...?”The stranger glanced down at him without blinking. “You made a mess.”His voice was deep. Low. Steady. My heart pounded like it was trying to escape my ribs.My wolf… she was practically pacing inside me, restless, breathless. Awake.Carlos spat, blood dripping from his mouth. “Who the hell are you?”The man’s jaw clenched. His tone deepened“Someone who doesn’t take betrayal lightly.”Jon stepped beside me, voice scratchy, uncertain. “Do you know him?”“I… no,” I said. But I couldn’t stop staring. My eyes

  • THE BLOODLINE’S LUNA   Chapter 7: The Burned Crest

At an instant, Carlos walked into the opening, bathed in moonlight, it was like he was late for a show or something. He was calm, composed, but there was this disturbing dark energy radiating off him. It was bad. Bad.Then I saw it. Blood. Soaking the sleeves of his shirt. But it wasn't his.My eyes darted past him, and I saw them. Two rogue alphas. Lying lifeless on the ground. Their necks? Snapped. Chests? Ripped to shreds. Their strength... gone. You didn't even need to have super smell to know Carlos had taken their power for himself."Carlos?" I said, croaked out, and walked forward by a step.He looked at me like I was some stranger he had never seen before. Then smiled and spoke."You owe me some gratitude, Liosha. I just saved your skins."My dad, who was trying to get up beside me, chest heaving, glared hard at Carlos. You weren't even fighting. You were just watching.Watching, Carlos repeated, a smirk playing on his lips. Just looking for the perfect opportunity."You plann

  • THE BLOODLINE’S LUNA   Chapter 6: The Alpha’s Oath

Carlos' smirk just sends chills down my spine. We're all dodging claws, teeth, and flying steel out here, fighting for our lives. Yet, all I can think about is Carlos. Up there, playing safe, just watching us like it's some sort of show. There wasn't even a flicker of worry in those golden eyes; he just stood there with his arms crossed. Like whatever, you know? What is his deal?"Carlos!" I shout to him using our pack link. I kick a rogue's butt and slice his leg. No answer. "Carlos, get your butt down here now!"Still nothing. My wolf is growling. I’m so ticked off. What a chicken.Beta Jon gets knocked down, and I rush to cover him. I jump between him and the other alpha who’s coming in for the kill. I bite down hard on the alpha's arm, ripping the skin and drawing blood. The guy screams.Giving Jon enough time to stand."Thanks", Jon says, panting."We're being watched", I say, my eyes flicking back to where Carlos was standing. The spot is empty."He's gone", I whisper, baffled.
