Camilla's POV.

"Make sure he gets 10 milligrams of morphine every four hours for the pain," I sat behind my desk with my hands trembling slightly as I instructed one of the nurses on the dosage of the medication Lawrence would need when he woke up.

I was able to put myself together and perform surgery to save his life. I didn't know how I managed to pull it off but I did, my doctor instinct winning against my emotions.

"And don't forget to check his vitals regularly."

The nurse nodded, scribbling down my instructions on a small notepad.

"Got it, Dr. Camilla. Anything else I should know?"

I shook my head, rubbing my temples to ward off the headache threatening to consume me.

"That should be all for now. Just keep an eye on him and let me know if there are any changes."

The nurse nodded before hurrying off to carry out my orders. As I watched her go, my mind raced with a thousand thoughts, thoughts that ended with decisions causing me to remember I was supposed to submit a resignation letter before leaving the hospital that day.

With a weary sigh, I turned on my desktop and started typing in my resignation letter.

The weight of the decision hung heavy on my heart, but I knew it was the right thing to do. I couldn't stay here, not with Lawrence as the new director of the clinic. His presence will always bring a constant reminder of everything that has happened.

I promised Raymond, that I would join him abroad immediately Lawrence tried to make any attempt to come back into my life. He knew about what happened between me and Lawrence so it was best I kept to my promise.

I made my way to Andrew’s office when I was done. When he saw me enter, he quickly offered me a seat.

"Camilla, you did a really good job once again. You saved Director Lawrence's life; you know?"

I nodded with a small smile tugging at the corners of my lips despite the heaviness in my heart.

"I did what anyone would have done," I said even though I couldn't deny the swell of pride at Andrew's praise.

"You're a hero, Camilla," he said sincerely. "We're lucky to have you on our team."

But his praise only served to reinforce my decision and I didn't waste a second to hand him the resignation letter.

I could feel my hands trembling slightly with nerves. "I'm quitting as I had mentioned earlier on the phone, Andrew," I said softly, my voice barely above a whisper.

"Camilla, do you really mean what you said?" he asked.

"You're our best doctor, our head of pediatrics. We need you here, especially now with Director Lawrence recovering. You should be in charge of him."

I wanted to tell him that it was because of Lawrence that I was quitting but I couldn't. I simply shook my head stubbornly.

"I'm really sorry, I have made up my mind," I said.

"Camilla, please. We can increase your pay if you want. You are already my deputy here, if not I would have offered you more promotion. Please don't quit now we need you. The director needs the best doctor which is you," he remained adamant with accepting my resignation.

"I wish it is something I can actually reconsider but I can't. I have my personal reasons," I protested, refusing to change my mind.

Seeing I wasn't ready to change my mind, Andrew’s countenance changed and he brought out a document.

"I didn't want to do this but you leave me with no choice, Dr Camilla," he said and pushed the document to me.

I checked it and found out it was the agreement I signed with the hospital when I got the job. I was to work with them on a contract for ten years, and anything that made me ask to resign before the ten years expired, I would pay a huge fine- Ten million dollars.

My heart stopped when I remembered the agreement. Instantly, I knew that my plan of running away was now abortive because it wouldn't work anymore with such a huge penalty involved.

Andrew sighed, running a hand through his hair in frustration. "Dr Camilla, I never wanted to do this but I couldn't bear you abandoning us now we need you."

"Also think about the hospital, about the patients who rely on you. You can't just abandon them like this."

“Please Andrew, you can't do this to me now. I really need to move,” I responded pleading but he refused to listen.

“I am sorry but I can't grant you your request when we really need you. We can't watch another hospital snatch you away. So you have to make a choice. To stay back or pay the penalty if you want to go against the contract you signed,” he said, and I sighed, giving up because it was already a done deal.

I didn't have such huge money to pay for the penalty and Raymond had done enough for me already to get him involved so I had to change my mind.

"Okay, I think I will have to follow my agreement with the hospital," I announced and I saw a sigh of relief wash down Dr Andrew's face.

"I'm sorry Dr Camilla things went this way," he apologized.

I couldn't say anything in reply. With that, I turned and left the office.

Getting to the hallway, I found myself face to face with a group of familiar patients waiting for the normal monthly check-up.

Their hopeful eyes met mine, filled with trust and gratitude, and suddenly, something inside me shifted. I hadn't thought about how leaving them so suddenly would have left them feeling. I had been too selfish to have only thought about protecting my family.

"Dr. Camilla!" one of them exclaimed, a bright smile lighting up her face.

"Thank you for everything you've done for us. You're the best doctor we've ever had!"

I felt a lump form in my throat as their words washed over me, a surge of emotion welling up within me.

Despite how I wanted to get away from being entangled with Lawrence again that moment, these patients reminded me of why I had become a doctor in the first place – to help others, to make a difference in their lives.

Tears pricked at the corners of my eyes as I looked at each of them, their gratitude filling me with a sense of purpose I hadn't felt in a long time. Maybe Dr Andrew was right.

Maybe I couldn't just abandon them like this.

Then I made a drastic decision.

Since I have changed my mind to stay, I had to do something else, which is keeping my children hidden. Thankfully none of the hospital staff know I have children. I never mentioned them because I had always wanted them to be a secret.

After closing from work that day, I returned home early to pack a few items for George and Mira.

I drove them straight to my younger sister's place in another town, telling them they needed to stay with her because I was going to be away for a while for a business trip.

I made sure I entrusted them in her care with the hope that Lawrence wouldn't ever know about their whereabouts.

Camilla’s POV.I wasn’t supposed to come in today. But as usual… Lawrence happened.I’d told Dr. Andrew a few days ago that I needed time off to visit my sick mom. That was a lie, of course. Mom was fine. What I’d actually planned to do today was visit the donor and take him in for some final testing. But then Andrew called early this morning. He didn’t say much—just one sentence, really.“Lawrence is coming in today.”At first, I was annoyed. Why today, of all days? But then Andrew added, “It’s his last check-up. We just need to take off the final bandages and run a few scans to confirm his recovery.”His last check-up.That line echoed in my head like a soft, fading song. For a moment, I stood there in silence, holding the phone to my ear, unsure how to feel. It’s not like I hate Lawrence. I don’t. Our last conversation still stings a little, but I had to do what I did. I needed to protect my peace… and the truth.Still, I couldn’t keep avoiding him forever. It was childish, and the

Lawrence's POV.I got up from the bed, restless again. For the past few days, sleep had been running from me like I was chasing it with a stick. No matter how tired I felt, the moment I closed my eyes, my mind would start racing. Memories, regrets, questions—they all kept flooding in. It was exhausting. With a sigh, I got out of bed and made my way downstairs. The house was quiet, dim, and cold. Just like my thoughts.I walked into the kitchen and opened the fridge to get a bottle of water. My eyes fell on the scrapbook I had taken from Mom’s room. I had left it on the counter earlier, planning to look at it again. It was old and worn but still so full of meaning. Mom had made one for each of us—me and Liana—when we were turning ten. She made us sit in different rooms and write about each other. Paste pictures. Draw memories. And the rule was simple—we weren’t allowed to look at each other’s pages until we turned eighteen. But life had other plans.Mom died before that day came. And s

Liana's POV.As soon as Edgar stood up from the dining table, he muttered, “I’ll be back,” and walked out.The silence that followed was deafening. None of us said a word. Just the soft clinking of cutlery and the distant chirping of birds from outside.I was already uncomfortable before he left, and now it was just worse. Then, like she couldn’t take the awkwardness anymore, Andra decided to speak.“So… how have you been, Lawrence?” she asked, her voice calm but a little too cheerful.“I’ve been good, and you?” Lawrence replied politely.“I’m good too,” she said. “Though I must admit… my progress can’t really be compared to yours.”That made Lawrence pause. His brows furrowed slightly. “What do you mean by that?”She gave a small chuckle. “Come on, Lawrence, you don’t have to pretend. It’s all over the news. Knights Mobile, that huge contract you signed with the Indian company. You’re not just doing good, you’re killing it. You’re like… the country’s golden boy now.”Lawrence gave a

Lawrence’s POV.I sat quietly in my office, my head resting against the back of my chair, eyes shut. The day had drained every ounce of energy I had. I hadn’t even noticed how tense my shoulders were until I tried to relax. It’s been a rough couple of weeks. The work kept piling up, and even though Dylan helped me here and there, a lot of it still needed my attention. I’d spent the whole morning buried in documents, flipping through contracts and signing papers like a machine.Knights Mobile was growing rapidly—better than I had expected, honestly. And as exhausting as it was, I couldn’t deny I felt proud of how far we’d come.Still, lunch break came and I felt nothing. No hunger. No appetite. Just emptiness.Dylan and the others had already gone to grab lunch or ordered theirs in. I just stayed behind, staring out the glass window for a while before leaning back into my chair again. For days now, I haven’t been able to eat lunch properly. It’s like my body just shuts down at this hou

Camilla’s POV.When we got home, Raymond didn’t waste a second before stepping out of the car. He walked around and gently opened the door on my side like a true gentleman.“Wow, what a gentleman you are,” I teased with a playful smirk.“Well, you are my queen. I have to treat you like one,” he replied smoothly and placed a soft kiss on my arm.Immediately, I felt my cheeks heat up. That man knew how to make me melt without even trying. He pointed at my face and burst into laughter. “It’s nice seeing you blush like a high school kid.”I rolled my eyes and straightened up. “I wasn’t blushing,” I said with fake confidence. “It’s just that the weather is hot tonight.”He smirked knowingly. “Is that so?”“Yes, it is,” I said, holding my ground.“Okay then, let’s try something new,” he said, taking hold of my right hand. Before I could ask what he meant, he began placing slow, lingering kisses from the tip of my fingers up to my wrist and forearm. A trail of goosebumps followed every kiss,

Camilla’s POV,Raymond sat there for a few seconds, silent and still. I kept staring at George, who lay so small and fragile on the hospital bed, hooked up to machines that beeped softly in the quiet room. My heart ached in a way I hadn’t expected.I couldn’t bring myself to speak. I couldn’t find the words to explain what I’d been hiding all this time. The guilt weighed heavily on me, like a thick fog pressing down on my chest. I should have told him. I should have told him weeks ago when everything changed.“Raymond,” I finally called, my voice trembling as I moved closer to him. I sat down on the chair beside him, feeling so exposed under his gaze. I reached out and took his arm gently, needing contact.“Raymond, I’m sorry,” I said, my voice barely a whisper, thick with regret. He didn’t look at me right away. Instead, his eyes were fixed on George, his brow furrowed deep in thought. “What’s wrong with George?” he asked quietly.I swallowed hard and took a deep breath. “Weeks ago…

Camilla’s POV.“Well, aren’t you going to let me in?” Raymond’s voice broke through my daze.I had been standing there for a few seconds, still trying to take in the sight of him. After all this time apart, seeing him now was like a shock to my system. His smile, the way he looked at me—it was both comforting and terrifying.“Yes, I am, baby,” I said softly and kissed him, trying to sound casual. “I just wasn’t expecting you anytime soon.”“That’s not enough,” he said, pulling me back in for another kiss.I pulled away just enough to look into his eyes. “You should have called me, Raymond.”He grinned mischievously. “Well, I could have, but I wanted to surprise you. Also,” he said, reaching behind the suitcase he had just pulled in, “this is for you.” He handed me a beautiful bouquet of flowers.“Oh, Raymond, they’re beautiful,” I said, touched, and hugged him again.“I’m glad you love them, love. I couldn’t bear staying apart from you for much longer.”I walked inside with the flower

Camilla's POV. I followed him quietly toward his office, my heart still pounding from what had just happened at the boardroom. Why would he pull a stunt like that? Did he want the entire staff at Torrance Memorial to start whispering about us? About our past? The memory kept replaying in my head like a broken record. He had leaned in so close—too close. His breath brushed against my skin, and then his eyes trailed to my lips, pausing for just a second, long enough to make me forget where we were. When our eyes locked again, something in my chest fluttered wildly, and I hated it. Hated how easily he could still affect me after everything. Was this his plan all along? To break me down bit by bit until I lost every ounce of sense I’d managed to hold on to? I shook my head, trying to banish the thought. “Are you okay?” he asked. I blinked, realizing I’d stopped walking. We were already at his office, and he was holding the door open, waiting for me to step inside. “I’m fine,” I m

Lawrence’s POV.I drove as fast as I could toward Torrance Memorial right after hanging up with Dylan.“Well, sir,” he had said, “put her in a tight spot. Make her unable to avoid you.”“Go on,” I said, eyes on the road but mind completely on his idea.“You’re the Director of Torrance Memorial, right?”“Yes,” I replied, already feeling where this was going.“And she’s working there?”“She is.”“Then why not use your position to talk to her? She can’t exactly refuse a meeting with her boss.”I didn’t say anything for a moment. But I felt a smirk tug at the corner of my mouth. It was simple. A little manipulative, maybe. But effective.“As an employee of your hospital, she doesn’t have much choice,” Dylan continued. “Nobody would even question it.”By the time I reached the hospital, I had made up my mind. I wasn’t going to let her keep dodging me like this. Not after everything.I walked past the private ward usually kept for the director and made my way into my rarely used office at T
