Kaia’s POV:

The world slows when I shift back.

One second I’m high above them, wings stretched wide, fur glowing like moonlight on fresh snow. The next, I’m gasping on the cold forest floor, bare skin prickled by the night air, hair tangled down my back. My limbs tremble. I can’t stop shaking.

They are all staring at me.

Axel’s eyes are wide, lips parted, breath stolen from his lungs. Kai’s jaw is clenched, but his knuckles have turned white at his sides.

My brothers stand stone-still, like statues carved by shock. And the rest of the pack…they're not just looking, they're revering.

A few bow their heads. Someone whispers it again. “Moonchild.”

I hug my arms around myself, suddenly aware of how exposed I am, both physically and emotionally. Ezra’s already rushing toward me, his hoodie in hand. He gently places it over my shoulders and averts his eyes respectfully.

“I’ve got you, Kaia,” he murmurs. Finally, someone who remembers that a person is inside this wolf.

KAIA'S POV: When I wake, the room is quiet but it's not empty.Something hums under my skin. It isn't the aching soreness from training, nor the faint dizziness that usually lingers after using moonfire. It's... deeper. Like my cells are vibrating in a rhythm I’ve never heard before, a song I didn’t know I knew. I blink. The ceiling above me looks the same, but everything else doesn’t. The walls breathe with faint energy. I can hear the thump of someone’s heartbeat outside the door. And worse, I feel it. Their nervousness and their anticipation. I sit up slowly, groggy but alert, and that’s when I see my hands glowing. Not brightly, but enough that I can’t ignore it. Pale silver light, like the surface of a full moon trapped in my veins. My chest tightens. The door creaks open and Rhea steps in. “You’re awake,” she says gently, her voice carrying something heavier than relief.“Barely,” I mutter. “What happened?” Her lips part like she’s struggling with how to even beg

KAIA'S POV: The courtyard behind the Guen pack house has been transformed. What was once a peaceful grassy backyard is now something between a battlefield and a sacred temple. Smooth stones line a wide circle etched into the ground, glowing faintly despite the mid-afternoon sunlight. A hush hangs in the air, tense and electric. The Elders stand at the edge of the circle, their long grey robes moving softly in the breeze. Rhea is next to them, barefoot and focused, clutching a leather-bound book that looks older than time itself. Her expression is unreadable but something in her posture tells me even she is nervous. And I, well... I’m standing in the center of it all, heart slamming against my ribcage like it wants to escape. My palms are clammy, my breath uneven. I feel like everyone can see the mark on my shoulder; the strange, burning crescent moon with a wing curling around it. It only appeared last night, after I’d collapsed from the Moonchild awakening. I haven’t

KAIA'S POV: The night presses against my skin, thick and heavy like grief. I keep running.. faster, harder, until the trees blur into dark streaks and my legs scream with effort. My breath saws in and out of my lungs, hot against the bitter cold air. I don’t know where I’m going. I just know I have to get away. From the pack house. From the prophecy. From the lies. From the girl they all expect me to be. Branches whip against my arms, tangling in my hair. I barely notice the sting. My thoughts are louder than the wind, crashing like waves inside my skull. Born on a thousand-year moon. Wings of stars. Moonsong line. What does any of it even mean? Who am I, really? Cause I find out even more strange stuff every weekend. Is this how my life is going to continue? I stumble to a stop in a clearing, chest heaving. My knees hit the damp earth and I gasp, clawing at the soil like it’ll give me answers. Like I’ll dig up the girl I used to be."Kaia!"Ezra’s voice cuts through

KAIA'S POV:I don’t remember the fall.Only the light. It pours from me like liquid silver, endless and alive, humming in my veins and beneath my skin. I’m floating. Suspended in something ancient and vast. The ground is below me, but I can’t feel it. The forest around me is hushed, caught in a breath it hasn’t yet released.Something is happening. Something irreversible. I open my mouth to scream, but it warps in my throat, twisting into a sound that doesn’t belong to any human language. It shakes the leaves in the trees. It makes the earth vibrate. Pain rips through me, but it isn’t pain like before. It’s change. Cracking, shifting, stretching. My bones bend and twist. My skin tears and heals in the same heartbeat. Fur sprouts across my limbs, not the coarse, dark kind I’ve seen on the wolves who shift in the pack. No. This is white. Luminous. Moonlit. It shimmers as it grows, as if spun from starlight. Then the wings come. They tear from my back with a force that ma

KAIA'S POV: The air in the Guen pack estate feels charged. It's like the crackle before a lightning strike. I can feel it in my bones, humming just beneath the surface of my skin. Everyone’s moving around with their whispers trailing like wind through the halls. “The Elders are coming,” Rhea murmurs as she braids my hair. Her fingers tremble slightly, even though she tries to mask it with a soft smile. “From what I've found out, they haven't set foot here in nearly a decade.” I nod, even though I don’t fully understand what it means. Only that it’s big. That it may also be about me. I wish I could say I feel ready, but the truth is, I don’t. My heart is a jackhammer in my chest. My powers have been... inconsistent at best. A spark here, a flicker there. Enough to know something inside me is waking up. But I have no control over it. No idea what the Elders might see. I tug at the hem of my sweater and turn toward the mirror. My reflection looks like a stranger. Pale skin,

KAIA'S POV: The halls of Crescent High haven’t changed. They still smell like cheap detergent and teenage secrets, lined with half-torn posters and faded lockers that hum with the memories of things best left unsaid. My boots echo as I walk toward homeroom, flanked by Rhea and Axel. Students part as we pass, not out of respect but caution. I’ve become a storm they’re not sure how to weather. Axel is chatting about how Lucien burned toast so badly this morning that the fire alarm screamed in protest. I smile at the story, but my stomach is a cold knot. Something's off. Not with him - he’s as warm and sarcastic as ever, but with today. I woke up feeling like something important was about to shift. And it does. Because when I push open the door to homeroom, she’s already there. She’s seated by the window, sunlight turning her long honey-blonde hair into threads of gold. Her back is impossibly straight, her smile poised. She’s wearing the school uniform, but somehow

KAIA'S POV: The moon is like a blade slicing open the night. I stand at the edge of the training grounds, sweat clinging to my skin, breath heavy from drills. The air is still... too still. There’s something wrong. I can feel it beneath my skin, like a warning hummed into my blood. Rhea walks over, her hair tied up in a messy bun, her brows pinched. "You feel it too, don’t you?"I nod, reaching for my water bottle. The training ground has been unusually quiet today, even the younger wolves too jittery to spar properly. Lucien’s been snapping at everyone, and Ezra hasn’t cracked a joke in hours. The whole pack feels... off. Ezra approaches us, his green eyes narrowed. “Rowan just sent out a scout team to the borders. He says he caught a scent. Nightowl.”My stomach drops. “Are you serious?” “Dead serious,” Ezra says, glancing around. “And it wasn’t a stray scent. It was fresh. There’s movement.”“Let’s not panic,” Rhea says, but her voice isn’t as calm as her words. “We’ve

AUTHOR'S NOTE:AN EXTRA CHAPTER FOR MY WONDERFUL READERS. ENJOY!!KAIA'S POV: The rain falls in a gentle hush, misting the windows of the packhouse like the soft breath of something ancient and watching. I stand barefoot on the porch, the wood damp beneath my feet, arms folded tightly across my chest as if that could hold me together. I don’t know why I can’t sleep. Maybe it’s the weight of everything I learned in the Moonstone Cavern. Or maybe it’s something far simpler like the quiet ache of a heart trying to make space for two people at once. I sense him before I see him. His presence is always thunder before the storm; quiet, brooding, dense with energy. Kai. He doesn’t say anything at first. He just steps out beside me, his bare feet nearly brushing mine, the scent of pine and steel drifting off his skin like an anchor."Couldn’t sleep?" he asks, voice low and rough.I shake my head. "You?" He lets out a breath that isn’t quite a laugh. "I haven’t really slept since
