CHAPTER 18 THE TRIAL BEGINS

MIRA’S POV

The ground feels cold under my bare feet.

The arena is packed with werewolves everywhere, their eyes on me. Whispers crawling through the pit like insects. I keep my chin up.

Alpha Theron stands above us, his hands behind his back, and his voice steady.

“The Integration Trial begins now,” he says. “Three warriors. Ten minutes each. You defeat them or you survive. If you fail, you leave Shadowfang.”

My fingers curl slowly.

I scan the crowd without meaning to and i find him instantly.

Elric.

He’s standing stiff, eyes locked on me like he’s afraid to blink. When our eyes meet, something settles in my chest.

A gate opens. The first warrior steps in.

Drake.

He’s massive. Broad shoulders. Thick arms crossed over his chest. He cracks his neck like this is already over.

He grins at me. “Try not to cry,” he says. “I hate boring fights.”

I don’t answer.

The horn sounds.

He charges.

He's fast, too fast for someone that big.

I move on instinct. Step aside. H
