CHAPTER 2: The Proposal

Kira could not believe her luck that morning. Yes, she had been careless and reckless. She had gone home with a stranger and had thrown herself at him. But, the stranger in question was a perfect gentleman with a face and body to die for.

And she would do it again if she got the chance to.

As the door clicked close signaling Alex's departure, Kira suddenly felt her legs grow weak. She moved back to the bed and pulled her hair back as she tried to return some balance to the temperature in her cheek.

"He didn't even touch me…" she whispered, hugging herself.

What sort of man was he?

She had never met a man like him. The ones she knew always took advantage of her but Alex was different. Her heart was already racing and she felt butterflies fly around her tummy. To think a perfect man like him wanted someone like her —oh my God!

She was almost not believing it when her eyes fell on the card on the vanity table. She rushed to it and held it with both her hands like it was the only proof she had that last night was real. She dropped the card and pulled off her dress and folded it neatly on top of it. She had to take her bath and go relay everything to Tess.

After her shower, she put on her dress again and held on tightly to the card. Her phone and purse were forgotten somewhere in the club, she could only pray that Tess had taken them home for her.

"Good morning miss," a tall man she recognized seen last night greeted her.

"Good morning…" She trailed not knowing what to say afterward. She was standing in front of the door and she had planned to slip out unnoticed but somehow she had gotten caught.

"Mr. Alex asked me to prepare breakfast for you. The chauffeur is currently warming up the vehicle as well, I advise you to come to take a little meal ma'am," he said in a silky clean voice. Kira couldn't help but wonder if he was trained to sound like this.

"Okay," she squeaked in shock.

She was just a common girl in the city of New York, how could she refuse a treatment she only saw people receive on television?

The house was so large, she would have never made it out on her own. As she followed the butler, she couldn't help but notice the amount of money Alex must have put into his house.

Who exactly was this man?

They got to the large dining room that could hold at least two-hundred people. She sat down and the meal was served. She wished Tess had come with her so they could drool over everything. She tried to maintain a poised stance knowing well that the maids were around watching her.

After the meal, the butler led her to the exit where a car was waiting just like he had said.

Kira's face was glowing with excitement. She could not believe her good fortune. This was incredible. It was a dream come true. When she finally got out of the car and thanked the driver, she let out a breath she was holding and ran to their apartment.

“Tess!! Tess!! I am home!” she held excitedly. She couldn't wait to narrate everything to her.

“Ooh just take a look at my friend! I know you had a good time," Tess said as she came out of her room to welcome Kira.

"You can see now that going to the club with me was not a bad idea at all. I can just imagine how last night went with the both of you cuddling each other, feeling the scent of each other’s body, moaning as he rode you gently like the princess that you are. Ooh, you must have had the best night ever!”

Tess was the hilarious and dramatic type. Most times, Kira would complain about her playful nature. She would say God brought her to Kira as a savior and that if not for her, maybe Kira might have suffered from depression or hypertension from her previous heartbreaks.

“Come off it Tess. It wasn't like that,” Kira said, her facial expression was not what Tess expected.

Tess pulled her hand and made her seat. Then she sat gently beside Kira and turned to her.

“Hey, look here,” she adjusts her sitting position. “Don’t tell me the both of you did not…”

“Nothing happened between us,” Kira replied sharply. “He only left me in the guest room and then this morning, he came to check on me and he left for work.”

“Ooh, I’m so sorry about that. He is such a jerk and a boring guy. He did not give such an impression when you met him at the club. I thought it was going to be hot sex all night!” Tess hissed and Kira threw her head back as laughter rumbled out of her.

"I like it. I think he is a perfect gentleman!" Kira exclaimed.

"You liked the boring guy?" Tess's eyes enlarged as she stared at her friend like she had grown a new head on her shoulder.

“He isn't boring Tess. I was drunk, what did you want him to do? Have his way with the silly drunk girl?”

"Ermmm… did you at least get his number? If he is so perfect he should have asked for your number so he can fuck you when you are sane!" Tess exclaimed and Kira only laughed harder.

"Jesus! Tess, can you stop it? You are killing me and the food in my stomach will vanish if I keep laughing like this!"

“So, he made breakfast for you?” Tess asked in shock. "Oh, my fucking boobies! He asked you out?!"

"Slow down Tess, don't get over-excited about this!" Kira tried to calm her friend but she couldn't hide the smile and glow on her face. "It's not like that."

Tess narrowed her eyes as she studied her face. "You are lying! He asked you out!"

Kira exploded into a brighter smile and then said, "I can't say he did but… he mentioned something in that line…" she giggled.

"And what did you say?" Tess asked, holding her breath.

Kira shrugged her shoulders. "I couldn't say anything… I was shocked!"

"What?! Are you crazy?!" Tess yelled at the top of her lungs.

"Calm down! He gave me his card and said I should call when I had an answer for him," Kira replied proudly.

Tess visibly calmed down from her yell and then she snatched up the card and left the couch to go pick up Kira's phone —which she had brought home for her— she dialed the number and handed the phone to Kira.

"What are you doing?" Kira asked as confusion laced her face.

"You are telling him yes!" Tess ordered.

”Hey stop it,” Kira tried to end the call but Tess was faster in snatching the phone away.

She tried again but it was too late, Alex had picked up the call.

“Hello,” he responded to the call and Kira felt her insides melt.

There was something about Alex that made her weak and speechless.

"Who is on the line please?" Alex asked on the other end.

Tess poked her on the arm and she replied with a jerk.

"He—lo!" She squeaked.

"Kira, you finally called.”

Kira became soft immediately, “Yeah…”

“Do you have an answer for me now?”

She looked at Tess who had glued her ear to the phone as well. Tess gestures to her to say yes.

“Yeah…”

“So what do you say, do we give it our consent or not?” His cool voice sent shivers down her spine and she became breathless.

Again, Tess had to poke her back to life.

"Yes… Yes!" She replied.

"Perfect then. I'll ask the chauffeur to come to pick you up this evening by eight, is that fine?"

"Huh? Yeah, it is," she stuttered.

“Good. I will see you then Kira,” he said before ending the call.

“Yeah!” Tess screamed in excitement “Finally you have met a genuine man! We need to make the best out of this! What will you wear?”

"It needs to be something that screams, Fuck me Hard tonight!"

"Tess!" Kira screamed at her friend's drama.

“You have to look the best way you can Kira! Men like him are no longer available!”

“Yeah, I know right,” Kira replied.

She was excited too. She just couldn't bring it all out as she feared it would vanish away.

Alex was so handsome, who would have thought he would ask her out?

“I am so happy for you... you are finally getting yourself together after that jerk, Donald left you… You know what, you sit here, I would go into that kitchen and you a drink. This calls for a celebration!"

They drank to their good fortune and time seemed to fly by as it was soon time for Kira to leave for her date. Tess picked out the perfect dress for her and as she stepped out of her room, Tess had tears in her eyes.

"Oh, my God! You look amazing!" She cheered coming to hug her friend.

"I feel like your mother right now," Tess said and they shared a small laugh before she walked Kira outside, where the chauffeur was indeed waiting.

"Good evening miss," the same man from that morning greeted.

"Good evening," Kira responded suddenly, feeling like a wealthy woman.

The city flew past them quickly and in no time, they stopped. They were in front of a large hotel —one of the best in the city.

The chauffeur stepped out and held the door for her like she had seen drivers do for superstars.

She was gliding among clouds and she couldn't believe her good fortune. She walked into the reception and after introducing herself, she was led to the lounge side of the hotel.

As her eyes met that of Alex who was already standing by the table, she felt her insides melt. The little bubble of dreams she built around her was finally done. It was just the both of them now.

"Hello, beautiful," Alex greeted and she felt butterflies sweep past her tummy.

"Hello Alex," she replied with a bright smile.

He pulled her seat for her and waited until she was settled before he did the same. The waiter came upon their table and poured out their drinks for them.

"I want to go straight to the point Kira," Alex started as soon as the waiter stepped aside.

She gulped down her wine and dropped the glass, waiting for the words she was dying to hear.

"I like you but I don't know if you will be willing to go into a relationship with me… one that only involves sex and nothing else."
