CHAPTER TWENTY ONE

As Sophia neared the commotion, she saw the flashing blue and red lights of police cars illuminating the street. She could hear the wails of an ambulance siren in the distance, getting closer by the second. She knew that something serious had happened.

Pushing her way through the throngs of people, Sophia made her way to the center of the crowd. What she saw made her heart sink. A young woman was lying in the middle of the road, her body twisted in an unnatural position. Blood was pooling around her head, and her limbs were bent at odd angles. Sophia could see that she was already dead.

Sophia's first instinct was to take out her phone and call for backup. But then she noticed something odd. There was a trail of skid marks leading away from the scene, as if someone had hit the young woman and then sped off. This was not a wolf attack - this was a hit-and-run.
