CHAPTER FOUR

I stared at my wolf fur, it was different. I got a white fur . A white fur is very rare, really rare. A white fur is associated with…... .no, I can't, I can't do this. I looked back at my parents' devastated facial expression ,the alpha was too shocked to speak and so were the others. I noticed something too. Compared to the other young wolves, I was incredibly bigger. Even bigger than the alpha in his wolf form.

It was dead silent, nobody was saying anything. I began to panic, I struggled to get up trying to stand on my hind legs for the first time.

“Mom, dad??" I called looking from my mom to my dad but they just stared back at me, speechless. My mom's hands was over her mouth and my dad just had a blank look

“Aries.." my mom whispered.

My heart started racing, they still wouldn't say anything. My legs moved and then my body, I ran out of the hall, out of the village. Soon I was running in the woods, I couldn't cry. I was just panicking, my heart kept racing as I sped up at unbelievable speed. I ran until I was out of breath. I stopped to catch my breath and observed myself again to be sure I saw it right. 

My fur was truly white, I couldn't believe it. But It's been a really long time since there ever was a white wolf and they're not just any wolf. They're the white warrior wolves.

Every child in the village has been told of the legend of the white wolf. The legend of the white wolf tells of a line of women blessed by the moon goddess to protect their pack from whatever dangers posed by the outside world or other packs. But this lineage ended for very mysterious reasons and for 10 generations, there was never a white wolf. And suddenly, I'm a white wolf?. 

I tried to calm down, I stared up at the moon and howled.

“Why me?I just wanted to be a normal wolf" I asked, still looking up at the moon for answers.

Maybe she can see me from up there and answer me.

After a while, I stood up and began walking back home. A lot of things were going through my mind but I put them away so as not to start panicking again. I walked home and stood outside for a while trying to shift back to my human body. At last, I finally did with much difficulty and pain. My parents ran outside when they heard my muffled screams. My mom wrapped me with a blanket while my dad carried me in.

They sat me down on the couch and stared at me. Irene stared at me helplessly, smiled weakly at me and mouthed ‘sorry’ to me.

“Aries, are you ok?" My mom asked 

“I'm fine guys, I'm a wolf now so I heal quickly so yea I'm good" I assured and gave a small smile.

“Aries, I…I don't know what happened tonight but we'll be going to the alpha's house tomorrow. We've been called to an emergency meeting, and that means you'll be going with us too. Your wolf is …..I can't say for now. How about you go get some rest” my dad said 

I stood up and walked straight to my room and put on some clothes 

Irene walked in and lay down beside me staring at me.

" Are you ok?” She asked rubbing my hair .

I nodded and wrapped my arms around her, soon we were deep in sleep.

    My eyelids felt heavy and they ached badly but I still struggled to open them after much difficulty. I stared around, it was dark and cold in here. I was lying on a strong mattress that almost blended with the floor. I was dressed in a worn out gown, my bare feet numb from the cold. I pushed myself up a little so as to observe my surroundings better. I was in a cell!. They put me in the pack’s cell!!!!!!???. I felt anger surge within me, my fingers curled into fist as I squeezed them in anger, nails digging into my palm. I still felt weak, my wounds were barely healing. Why am I not healing?, what was I injected with??. Why aren't they investigating this?, why am I in a cell instead of being in the local medicine house, being treated?. What is this treatment like I'm a criminal?.These questions ran through my mind and it increased my fury. I felt like punching something but that will do me more harm than good.I scanned the dark cell but June wasn't here. Oh goddess!, June. H

    “I don't think this is the right way, let's go the other way” Isla mindlinks to us.This is the third time we're getting lost. We've gone deep into the woods and Isla still can't find the way to the stream. “Isla, are you sure of this stream you seem to have found?" June asked“I actually did come across a stream that day. But it's getting dark, it's better we head back" she replied and we started heading back without opposition.I can tell they were both tired but honestly I was barely feeling it. We walked back in an uncomfortable silence before Isla suggested we shift back and put on our clothes.“I'm sorry, this was such a waste of time, I really wanted to show it to you guys” she apologized“It's ok Isla, we'll see the stream some other day" I said, gently rubbing her shoulders.“How about some hide and seek as we head back, I'll seek" she suggests again, smiling mischievously. Something about that smile creeped me outThe forest was silent, even the birds seemed to have gone on

    The village mall was a modest hub of activities. There were small stalls by the corner which consisted of a bakery, a coffee shop and an antique store but in the middle was the huge building, the main mall. The exterior was decorated with earthy tones and rocks to give it that earthy feel. There was a stylish sign outside with ‘TOWN MALL’ boldly written on it. The interior was a huge space filled with products and goods, from clothes to electrical appliances to kitchen utensils and the likes, all arranged in orderly rolls.After getting a few clothes, I sat down on a bench somewhere just to watch the activities of others in the mall. “Enjoying the scene?" I turn around to see June standing beside me, smiling.“Hey June,what are you doing here?" I ask as he sits beside me.“I'm here with my dad, we're getting a few things," he shrugs.We exchanged a few words before an awkward silence crept in. I turned to see June staring at me.“June, stop staring. It's creepy” I say and he chuckle

    I was staring down fiercely at the alpha, baring my teeth and growling. I was pissed but I didn't know why.“Well well well, there goes something else you need to watch out for, your temper kid. You need to put it in check.” Alpha Dominic warned, collecting a handkerchief from Jacob to wipe his sweat.“Someone get her a blanket or something” he ordered and walked out.June and Isla walked up to me as I laid down, waiting for the blanket before shifting back.Isla was holding back a laugh while June petted my fur.“This is the first time we're experiencing your spontaneous anger.     I've been training for the past few weeks and with each passing day, I feel stronger and better. Although the training hasn't been easy as I am made to train harder than normal wolves but it is starting to pay off. Few days back, I took down a ruthless rogue and I've never felt more proud of myself.I woke up sweating and felt tears streaming down my eyes to my ears. It felt so real, I could almost feel the pain.     Today's the day of the celebration, the alpha ordered for a ceremony to celebrate the return of the white wolf. The whole town was busy preparing. For the past few days, people have been tripping in and out of our house in order to see the ‘white wolf’. Gifts and congratulatory messages were given, my parents were proud and they didn't hold back from saying it. They treated me like an egg and I hated it.I hated the attention and the soft treatment. But what I didn't hate was my wolf,I had come to fall in love with it since the past few days.Few days ago, June, Isla and I went into the woods and we all shifted.
