Lyra’s POV

The chamber erupted into movement. Silver wardlines flared across the ruined floor as purge mages spread outward in coordinated formation, their magic locking together with frightening precision. The anti-corruption sigils etched into their armor brightened hard enough to sting against my skin. Every weapon remained aimed directly at me. I could feel the fear behind them now. Not hatred. Fear. And somehow that made it worse.

“Contain the vessel,” Commander Seradin ordered sharply.

  • THE SHADOW WITHIN HER (The shadow Queen Of Aetheria)   Chapter 127 — The Enemy Beneath the Masks

Lyra’s POVThe cultists didn’t rush forward immediately. They stepped through the ruined wall with unnerving calm, black robes shifting through the smoke while crimson sigils glowed faintly beneath layers of ash and fractured wardlight. Silver masks concealed their faces completely, reflecting the destruction around them in distorted flashes. But it wasn’t their appearance that chilled the chamber. It was the shadows. The darkness surrounding them moved differently from mine. Not alive. Controlled. Forced. Like something chained into obedience. Every instinct in me recoiled at the sight of it.“The Veiled Covenant,” Commander Seradin repeated sharply, recovering first. “Defensive positions!”The purge battalion reacted instantly. Silver wardlines erupted across the chamber as soldiers shifted formation away from me and toward the cultists flooding into the Academy ruins. That change wasn’t lost on anyone. For the first time since the Crown arrived—I wasn’t the immediate target. One of

  • THE SHADOW WITHIN HER (The shadow Queen Of Aetheria)   Chapter 126 — The First Crack

Kaelen’s POVNobody moved for several seconds. The shattered ceiling groaned overhead while dust drifted through the chamber in slow clouds, but all attention remained fixed on the impossible sight in front of us.The shadows were holding the corridor together. Massive slabs of fractured stone hovered above the trapped students in dark suspended currents while Lyra stood trembling beneath the strain, shadows spiraling violently around her arms as she fought to keep the structure from collapsing. Not destroying. Saving. The silence in the chamber felt almost stunned. One of the purge mages lowered his weapon first. Then another. I saw it happen gradually across the battalion ranks as uncertainty spread through soldiers who had entered this chamber expecting a monster. Instead, they were watching her protect people while half the Academy collapsed around her.Lyra’s breathing hitched sharply beside me. The pressure was getting worse. I could feel it through the bond between our magic no

Fear. And somehow that made it worse.“Contain the vessel,” Commander Seradin ordered sharply. The word hit harder this time. Vessel. Like I wasn’t standing there breathing in front of them. Like I wasn’t still trying not to become exactly what they feared. The shadows beneath my feet twisted violently in response. Kaelen stepped forward immediately, golden light surging brighter around him as he positioned himself between me and the advancing battalion. “No one touches her.”The soldiers hesitated. Not because of me. Because of him. Because standing against the Crown was one thing. Standin

  • THE SHADOW WITHIN HER (The shadow Queen Of Aetheria)   Chapter 124 — Treason

Lyra’s POVThe chamber stood on the edge of violence. Silver magic illuminated the ruins in sharp, fractured lines as the purge battalions spread through the lower levels with practiced precision, their anti-corruption sigils glowing across black armor like warning marks carved into steel. Every weapon in the chamber was pointed at me.But Kaelen didn’t move. He stood directly in front of me, one hand still locked with mine while golden light burned steadily around him against the growing darkness beneath the Academy.Commander Seradin’s gaze hardened. “Step aside, Your Highness.”Kaelen’s voice remained calm. “No, I can't do that.”The single word shifted the atmosphere instantly. Not emotionally. Politically. Every soldier in the chamber heard it for what it truly was. Defiance. Open and undeniable. The purge mages tightened formation immediately, silver wardlines expanding outward beneath their feet in preparation for combat. I felt the entity react sharply to the anti-corruption m

  • THE SHADOW WITHIN HER (The shadow Queen Of Aetheria)   Chapter 123 — The Prince’s Decision

Kaelen’s POVNo one moved after the announcement. The ruined chamber stood frozen beneath the weight of those final words, every surviving instructor and guard staring upward toward the corridors above us as silence settled like a blade against the Academy’s throat.Lyra Vale is to be surrendered for immediate purification. The Crown had spoken. And suddenly every person in the chamber understood the same thing at once. There would be no negotiation after this. No containment. No second chance. Only obedience. Or treason. The shadows around Lyra churned violently across the fractured stone, reacting to the execution order with restless waves of darkness that climbed the ruined walls like living fury. Beneath the Academy, the entity pulsed hard enough to shake the entire lower structure again. It heard them too. And it was angry.“Kaelen.” Nira’s voice came quietly now, stripped of its usual composure. “You need to think carefully about what happens next.”I almost laughed. There was n

  • THE SHADOW WITHIN HER (The shadow Queen Of Aetheria)   Chapter 122 — The Choice That Breaks the Kingdom

Lyra’s POVThe second attack shook the Academy harder than the first. A violent impact thundered through the outer grounds above us, followed by the distant roar of collapsing wards as royal magic struck the defensive barriers surrounding the Academy. Dust cascaded from the fractured ceiling. Somewhere overhead, people were screaming. The war horns outside continued echoing through the night. And suddenly the reality of everything hit me all at once. This wasn’t containment anymore. It was siege.“They breached the western gates!” someone shouted from the upper corridor.Panic surged instantly through the ruined chamber. Instructors barked conflicting orders while guards scrambled toward the evacuation routes, their discipline cracking under the pressure spreading through the Academy. No one knew who was in command anymore. The system holding this place together had already started collapsing long before the walls did.Kaelen turned sharply toward the upper exits. “We’re out of time.”

  • THE SHADOW WITHIN HER (The shadow Queen Of Aetheria)   Chapter 15 – Whispers of Fate

Lyra's POV The library was unusually quiet that afternoon. Even the air felt heavier, thick with the scent of old parchment and lingering enchantments. I walked carefully between the towering shelves, letting my fingers brush against the spines of ancient tomes as I searched for something I

Lyra's POV Sleep didn’t come. Not fully. Not deeply. Just fragments. Broken pieces of rest that dissolved the moment I reached for them. But I wasn’t alone. That was the difference now. That was everything. Kaelen’s arm was draped across my waist, his body warm and solid behind min

Lyra's POV Elsa didn’t push further that night. But the way she looked at me before I left— Sharp. Measured. Certain— Told me this wasn’t over. Not even close. Sleep came in fragments again. Not deep. Not steady. Just enough to blur the edges of everything pressing in around me. But ev
