Chapter seventeen.Diana's povMerilyn cast me a sideways glance, it had become a common thing for her ever since the night I was rejected. The pain in my chest increased, knowing that your other half whom the moon goddess had destined for you was planning his wedding with someone else.I feigned ignorance so Merilyn wouldn't think I was hurt or anything, but deep down my heart was crying, I cleared my throat and dragged her by the arm before she could say anything else, “Let's go before we are late.” Luckily she got the cue as she didn't bring it up until we had reached the yard where Miss Beatrice was today, assigning tasks usually occurred in the servants’ quarters or wherever she wanted to have them.We went through the normal motion until it was my turn, “Diana, you'd be assigned to the princess's bedroom today,” and then she moved on.Another sorry look from Merilyn would send me over the edge, this time around I was serving the princess, every servant hated the royal family, b
Chapter Eighteen.Alaric's povOne minute, it looked like Emily and my mate were having a normal conversation, and the next, Emily retracted from her and then my mate ran away.I didn't understand what had happened, I didn't want to either, I knew what Emily was capable of and knew that she was the one that had angered my mate making her run away.I had thought wrong as Emily sharply turned towards me while still glancing in the direction the girl had run to, her eyes were opened wide in shock.“I told you there was something wrong with that girl, I told you!” She began to shout, looking a bit terrified, her eyebrows raised to the heavens, her nose flared as she seethed in anger. What just happened? I wondered. Why was she bringing this up again? My sister was just beside me as she came out of her room due to the commotion Emily was causing. She also looked confused and maybe a little pissed that she was being disturbed at this hour of the day, or any hour for that matter.Emily grabb
Chapter Nineteen Diana's povI had just put away my trolley and was making my way back to my room, still feeling pained and insulted. Why do they always have to berate us for nothing? Emily made me feel like I was nothing, that my existence was a joke, every lycan did. Then there was Prince Alaric. Every time I saw him, I always felt a burning sensation in my heart that wouldn't stop until I was as far away from him as possible. He stood there with his arms around her, that would have been me in a different universe if the world was actually fair, I couldn't stand there and watch any longer, also knowing that they were already planning their wedding.I sniffled a bit, why am I even crying? It's not like I ever had a chance with him in the first place, I've heard stories of mates but I've heard more of rejected ones, they feel the pain until they can control it and get over it, I didn't know how I was going to accomplish that. The most painful part, I had to encounter him every day w
Chapter Twenty.Diana's povMy screams bounced off the walls of the room, my throat itched from the constant shouting in pain.I inhaled deeply as they finally stopped, my chest rose and fell, I was being electrocuted while the king and the prince had taken a step back and watched. My hair was matted to my skin and I couldn't distinguish between the water that was dumped on me and my own precipitation. The salty taste of my tears seemed to linger in my mouth.King Williams insisted that I was lying and seemed to want to prove me wrong for who I was, he looked annoyed and determined, he was without his crown, but that didn't make him any less imposing, “Are you a werewolf?” He questioned.Well this I couldn't even answer, I thought I was a werewolf, at least both my parents were, so I should have werewolf blood running through my veins, but I've never shown any signs of being a werewolf, no sharp sense of smell, no enhanced eyesight, no super hearing. I've never even shifted for once a
Chapter Twenty-one.Alaric's pov.I held the side of her head with the palm of my hand, “Father this isn't right, she's nobody and does not have any suggestion of your suspicion whatsoever,” I pleaded with my father as this was getting out of hand.My father didn't say anything more as I ordered the guard behind her to step back.I might have rejected her but that doesn't mean I would just let her die, we were still connected one way.“There's nothing here Father,” I tried to reason with him once more, I knew all this was a sham before it started, there was nothing wrong with the girl and Emily had made the whole thing up.My father didn't say anything much and then walked out of the room, before he passed by Emily, he made sure to give her a very careful look which seemed to have made Emily quite afraid as she shrank back into herself and then my father left.My eyes locked with Emily's, I didn't want to see her anywhere close by at the moment and she knew this too which is why she f
Chapter Twenty-two.Diana's povI stared awake from my bed, pain resonated from my body especially my arms, with every movement I made, I groaned. Thoughts of what happened flashed in my mind, and everything came rushing back to me.The last thing I remembered was Prince Alaric's scrunched-up features, and then I blacked out, how I got back to my room wasn't part of my memories. It was a moment of my life where I had wished for death, prayed for it even, I had doubted my faith in the moon goddess or rather had lost it. Ever since I was born it was one thing and the other, I had thought just like everyone else, it would pass with time but it never did.A part of my life I wouldn't like to revisit, here in the palace I had thought I was going to have a better start when I had first arrived but it was the exact same, I didn't know what I would expect from working for the very Lycans who made the lives of countless other werewolves as well as humans a living hell.I struggled to get up fr
Chapter Twenty-three.Diana's povExiting the humongous gates of the palace, I scrolled down the streets of the city, with my air pods plugged in. I had little change with me, so first off, I had gotten something to eat. After I was done with my breakfast, I lingered for a bit in the restaurant contemplating whether or not this was really a good idea. I had sat long enough when a waiter approached me and asked if I had wanted anything else, I declined her kind offer and exited the restaurant.I stopped a cab and gave him my home address and we were off.The more we got farther away from the castle, the more the houses began to shimmer down in their vigor and structure. It was the top Lycans and elites, basically the rich, those who weren't Lycans and couldn't even afford to live there had to cope with the outer cities where I was headed to.It didn't take long before we finally arrived in Callaway City, a population of less than three hundred, that consisted of both wolves and humans.
Chapter Twenty-fourDiana's povThe door opened up and my mother walked into the room, she hadn't changed a bit since I last saw her, she looked like she was doing good even. I wiped the tears that I didn't know had spilled down my face and stood up quickly and so did Daniel.“Hi Mom,” I greeted a bit nervously. I wrung my fingers and twirled them in anxiety. She glanced at Daniel and then her eyes landed on me. When I left two years ago it wasn't on good terms, not that any of our encounters had been good ever since the incident with my father.“You came back,” she acknowledged my existence before she went towards the kitchen where Daniel helped her with the bags in her hands and greeted her. My mother didn't have a problem with Daniel and she offered him a smile of gratitude.“It's nice to see you again, Mrs Melbourne,” Daniel said while I stood behind them almost completely forgotten. My mother conversed with Daniel for a bit before he offered to leave after a look from me. He kne
