LOGIN"LUNA AVA!"
Dwight's voice sounded strange, far away and distorted, like he was screaming my name from somewhere beneath water. "LUNA!" I blinked several times, and suddenly the banquet hall crashed back into existence around me with so much force that I almost stumbled. Music was still playing somewhere in the background, although it was nearly drowned out by shouting and laughter. The smell of blood had become stronger, and when I finally focused on what was happening around me, I couldn't understand what I was looking at. One of the long tables had been overturned, scattering plates, glasses and half-eaten food across the stone floor, while another had been split straight through the middle. Several chairs had been broken, and wolves now stood in a loose circle around the destruction as though they'd been watching some kind of entertainment. Alpha Roland certainly appeared entertained because the bastard was fucking clapping. I followed his gaze, and my heart almost stopped. Alastor had one boot planted firmly against Trenton's chest, pinning him to the floor while blood covered most of Trenton's face. One of his eyes was already swelling shut, his bottom lip had split open and blood ran from his nose onto the front of his shirt. His knuckles were torn and bloody too, and judging from the condition of the banquet hall, he'd managed to put up one hell of a fight before Alastor finally beat him down. A fight I hadn't seen. I had been standing there the entire time, but Roland's announcement about Rachel had sent me so deeply inside my own head that the world around me had disappeared. "You can't be so wicked, Alpha," Trenton cried as he struggled beneath Alastor's boot. "Rachel is too pure for this. You can't." Alastor leaned more of his weight onto Trenton's chest, forcing a painful grunt from him. "She's my daughter, is she not?" Alastor barked. "So I decide what happens to her, and if I say she marries RJ on her eighteenth birthday, then that's exactly what the fuck will happen." Something inside me snapped. "Bastard!" The word had barely left my mouth before Roland appeared in front of me and slapped me so hard that my head whipped sideways. For a second, all I could hear was the ringing in my ears, but then the pain came rushing in. My cheek burned as I slowly turned my face back towards him. "Know your place, woman," Roland warned. "No Luna should speak to her Alpha like that." Kennedy exploded inside me. 'Rip his fucking throat out!' My fingers curled at my sides because every instinct I possessed was telling me to do exactly that. I wanted to tear into him so badly that my gums actually ached from the pressure of my wolf trying to force her teeth through. But Rachel was somewhere inside this mansion. There were too many wolves surrounding us, and starting a fight I couldn't finish would only put my daughter in more danger. I had to stay calm. That was the only way I could protect her for now. Three more days. Just three. "There is no way my daughter will marry into this pack." Roland's expression immediately darkened. "Are you saying your daughter is too good for my son?" I slowly looked around the banquet hall at the naked wolves, the destroyed tables and the blood staining the stone floor. Drunken laughter still filled the room, and several people were carrying on as though Trenton hadn't just been beaten nearly unconscious a few feet away. These people were sick. Even their heavily pregnant Luna was sitting there drinking wine as though she couldn't care less about the child growing inside her. I looked back at Roland. "Do you really want me to answer that?" A few nearby wolves laughed. Roland didn't. Before he could respond, the enormous doors behind us opened. "Father?" Everyone turned. A young man walked casually into the banquet hall, and the first thing I noticed was that he looked absolutely nothing like Alpha Roland. He appeared to be around eighteen, tall and broad-shouldered, with thick dark hair and a face that might have been handsome if there weren't something deeply unpleasant behind it. A scar ran diagonally across one side of his face, beginning near his temple and ending beside his mouth, but it wasn't the scar that held my attention. It was his eyes. They were red, just like Alastor's. My stomach tightened because red eyes on a werewolf meant only one thing. He'd killed humans. "Ah!" Roland spread his arms wide. "There's my boy now." RJ glanced around at the destroyed banquet hall before his attention settled on Trenton, who was still bleeding beneath Alastor's boot. Instead of looking surprised or concerned, he grinned. "Father, what did I miss?" "Nothing important. You're just here for the good part." RJ laughed as though seeing a man half-beaten to death on the floor was completely normal. Then I noticed the blood on his hands. Human blood. I could smell it from where I stood, and there was enough of it coating his fingers that whatever he'd been doing hadn't happened long ago. He casually wiped his palms down the front of his trousers, leaving dark red streaks across the fabric. "You should've heard the human bitch I killed earlier," he announced proudly. "She screamed so fucking loud when I flayed her, I thought the whole forest would hear." My stomach turned. Roland threw his head back and laughed. "That's my boy." RJ grinned at the praise, looking pleased with himself in a way that told me this wasn't the first time his father had celebrated his cruelty. "Your future wife will love how strong and beastly you are," Roland said. RJ's eyebrows rose with immediate interest. "Future wife?" Roland pointed towards Alastor. "Alpha Drexel and I have reached an agreement. His daughter will become your wife when she turns eighteen." For the first time since he'd entered the room, RJ appeared genuinely interested. "His daughter?" "Rachel." RJ slowly nodded before glancing around the banquet hall. "Where is she?" "With Opal," Roland answered. "She's still a child. You have eleven years before she'll be ready." "Eleven years?" RJ groaned dramatically before laughing. "Fine. I suppose I'll find plenty of ways to entertain myself until then." The wolves around him laughed as though he'd said something hilarious. My blood ran cold.By the time the carriage rolled through the gates of Drexel Forest, Alastor hadn't spoken another word to me, and I hadn't spoken to him either.I sat as far away from him as the carriage allowed, holding the torn front of my dress together while his threat replayed in my head for what felt like the thousandth time. You and him are dead.Him, as in Trenton. He suspected us, and I didn't know how much he knew or how long he'd been suspicious. Apparently, I hadn't been as careful as I thought. Ten years of sneaking around with Trenton, and perhaps all it took to expose us was the way I referred to my own daughter. My daughter. Not ours.Mine."Stop thinking so loudly."I turned my head towards Alastor. He was staring through the window as the carriage moved past the sleeping cottages scattered throughout the pack. His reflection stared back at me in the glass, and although his face was calm, I could see the faint red still lingering in his eyes."I wasn't aware you could hear thoughts n
My stomach turned as I watched Pussy swallow Alastor's cum.I felt sick, but more than anything, I felt disrespected. He had made me sit there and watch another woman pleasure him with her mouth as though humiliating me was the final item on his agenda for tonight, and judging by the satisfied smirk on his face, he had enjoyed every second of it.Kennedy had been pacing inside me the entire time. The mate bond was eating my wolf alive, twisting jealousy and anger through my chest even though I wanted nothing from the bastard sitting across from me. For once, though, I didn't care what the bond wanted. All I kept thinking was that in a few days Alastor would leave for his hunting trip, and I would take Rachel and disappear from his life.I almost smiled imagining him returning to Drexel Forest and discovering us gone. I wished I could hide somewhere just long enough to watch that arrogant smirk disappear from his face.Maybe I'd even leave him a note.~Dear Mate From Hell,Fuck you.I
"What do you mean she should take me to Mount Hecate?" Ashley asked."I'll explain later, Ashley," Opal said as she carefully helped her back onto the tiny bed. "Right now, I need to take the Luna to her Alpha. We've already been here too long."Ashley looked between the two of us, clearly confused, but I didn't have time to explain something I didn't completely understand myself.Especially since I had a few questions of my own.We left Ashley crying in her room, and the second Opal closed the door behind us, I followed her down the corridor. For the first few minutes, we walked in silence. Opal moved quickly through the confusing hallways while I stayed close behind her, trying to memorize the turns in case I ever needed to find my way out of this damn fortress again. Then she started talking.Or, better yet, she talked and I listened."I know you're wondering how I know about your plans," she whispered, glancing over her shoulder. "But Winifred didn't betray you. I was there this m
I was too shocked to even speak. The Vampire King. For a moment, I just stared at Roland's daughter while trying to understand how one father could stand downstairs celebrating the future marriage of his son while keeping his own daughter locked away upstairs because she refused to be sold to another man.And I thought my family was fucked up."He's gone again," Roland's daughter suddenly whispered, glancing towards the door. "You have to go."I heard the fading footsteps too, but before I could move, someone knocked softly on the door.I jumped, and Kennedy immediately rose inside me, ready to tear through my skin if necessary, but then the scent reached my nose.Herbs.Magic.Witch.I knew exactly who it was.Roland's daughter hurried towards the door and opened it just enough to see outside."Opal, what are you doing here?"Opal slipped inside and quickly closed the door behind her. Tears were rolling down her face, and whatever relief I'd felt at seeing someone who could take me b
The coast was clear, at least that was what I told myself. I didn't hear any scuffling outside the door, which meant Dwight was maybe looking for me on another floor.I still made up my mind to stay put for a while longer, just in case he was quietly waiting for me outside the door.'It smells like death in here,' Kennedy pointed out. 'I don't think we're alone.'She rose inside me.I turned slowly to take a good look at my surroundings, and I had to place my hand over my nose. It smelt like sickness and pestilence in here.My eyes adjusted to the darkness as I slowly moved away from the door.I could sense the racing heartbeat now."Who's there?""Please, you shouldn't have come here."I froze. It was a young woman.I hadn't noticed her when I'd rushed inside because the room was almost completely dark, with only a thin strip of moonlight slipping between the heavy curtains. She sat curled up on a tiny bed with her bare feet tucked beneath her and her arms wrapped around her knees. Rachel. My sweet little girl who still sucked her thumb when she was tired, who believed witches turned annoying people into frogs and who had spent part of the carriage ride asking why her mama and papa didn't kiss enough. They were standing here discussing her future like she was a piece of land being traded between kingdoms. Worse, this monster was already looking pleased by the idea that one day she would belong to him."That will never happen," I said.RJ's attention snapped towards me, and he studied my face for several seconds before smiling."You must be the Luna.""I'm Rachel's mother.""Then I suppose we'll be family.""No."His smile faltered slightly as I stepped towards him."You will never be her family. I don't care what agreement your father made with Alastor, and I don't care what either of them promised you. Rachel will never marry you."The room gradually became quieter around us, and even Roland stopped laughing.RJ's red eyes seemed to brighten as he looked at me,
I wasn't always this unhappy. I was a happy child who grew up in a happy home. Memories of my childhood were what kept my belief that happiness existed. Because now, at 32, happiness is nothing but a distant memory. My father, Adam, was a wise man. He taught me we are humans first and beasts last.
AVA-ROSE'S POVGracefully, I glided down the aisle leading to the dining hall. The naked monstrosities of white-marbled statues that my mate called art lined the hallways like guards in Buckingham Palace. My wolf was torn. She wanted to obey the obligations the Moon Goddess bestowed upon us. But sh
I slipped out of my heels and quietly pushed the door open. The room was a little dark, but my were-vision assisted me with finding my way around the pink room. I stepped on something sharp. I swallowed my yelp and paused, waiting for the sting to subside. I peered down and removed the Lego piece a
