Chapter 5

Fortune looked at the guy in front of her who didn't seem to be lying. She took out her notebook and gave it to him "please make sure to give it back before class tomorrow morning". "Thank you so much, I really appreciate, and rest assured that I will return it before class tomorrow" Brandon responded with a smile. Fortune nodded her head and was about to turn when she heard him speak out "may I know your name please?" Brandon asked. She subconsciously paused for a few seconds and replied "Fortune". " oh, alright then fortune,see you tomorrow". Brandon responded and snappily walked away. Asia who witnessed the scene giggled and mischievously looked at fortune. "you see why I say I can't compete with a beauty like you?" it's only been your first day in school and guys have already started chasing after you". Fortune gave her a white look and ignored " Asia stop blabbering around, you know he only needed help come on". "Fortune stop acting naive, don't tell me you didn't notice how he was looking at you".      "The guys eyes were glued only on you like you were the only person he could see, he likes you" Asia exclaimed in an exaggerated tone. "love is a beautiful thing and that guy is so nice, if I were you, I wouldn't even hesitate for a second". Fortune rolled her eyes and responded " Asia, love is indeed a beautiful thing but you have to be careful. each time we fall in love so deeply, we put our hearts at risk. it's like giving someone a loaded gun pointed to your head". "Fortune being rigid won't help you at all, some day you will fall in love" at this time, a face flashed through Fortune's mind and she still remembered that guy, Alex. No fortune, why must you always think about him, it's crazy how I get to still remember a person who probably doesn't even remember me. Asia is right, it wouldn't hurt giving it a try with someone else. After all, I have never really had time to entertain any guy not to talk of having a boyfriend. she  sighed and made a decision not keep on wallowing in the past.

Fortune turned to her friend and asked "Asia tell me something, how sure are you that he likes me?". Asia answered with a solemn expression "he lied to you about missing his morning classes cause i noticed him the moment we stepped into class. you were not paying attention to the people around you that's why you probably didn't see him. I was wondering why he would lie to you but I figured it was a way for him to get close to you". Asia said all this in one breath making sure not to miss out any important point. "So that's how it is". Asia nodded her head vigorously with a bright light in her eyes,in hopes that her friend would finally have a boyfriend. since high school, this dense friend never had a care when it came to guys. Now that they were in the university, it was normal to have a boyfriend , Asia thought to herself. "Fine then, I will think about it though he hasn't said anything to me so it's not ok to make any assumptions" fortune said to her friend. "girl I'm sure that guy likes you, he will tell you unless his a sissy" Asia chuckled at what she said and both of them laughed.

Early the next day, Brandon was the first person to come to class and seeing that fortune hadn't yet arrived, he decided to stand by the door and wait for her. 30 minutes later, Fortune's figure appeared in Brandon's eyes accompanied by her friend Asia. He felt a little nervous but had to put himself together. He smiled at fortune who had reached the door and greeted her as well as Asia." thank you for your notebook". fortune looked at him and didn't want to embarrass him "it's nothing really" she replied plainly and  went to class. At lunch, few minutes before fortune went out, Brandon hastily accosted her "fortune can I please take you out for lunch?" Brandon asked politely. She looked at her friend who silently nodded and motioned for her to accept. fortune looked at the guy standing in front of her and nodded. Brandon was ecstatic upon seeing her accept and led the way. He took fortune to a fast food cafe outside the school. it took them almost ten minutes to get there and fortune got a little impatient but decided to remain calm. she looked up at him and asked "sorry but what's your name?".      

Fortune felt a little abashed cause she didn't even know his name. "Brandon is my name". "oh okay Brandon so why choose to come this far when we can easily have food from one of the restaurants within the school?". "I chose to come this far cause it's less noisy and not crowded". fortune nodded her head and felt he was right. Few minutes later, they arrived and found a suitable place to sit. As a gentleman, Brandon first asked fortune what she would like to have, she told the waitress what she needed then Brandon made his order. The atmosphere between them felt a little depressing so Brandon started to bombard the girl in front of him with different questions just to get to know her better. Looking at his watch, there was still time left, they were given 1 hour 30minutes for break. As their food was served, they started to dig in. Fortune ate without having to care much about any courtesy cause she had been starving . After their meal, they went back to class.
