Chapter 2: The Search for Hybrid

"Great One, what could be the cause of the red full moon that occurred some minutes ago?" A young man in his early thirties asked, with a confused expression while staring at the moon outside the temple.

"Hmm, there was once a prophecy some years ago. Under a red full moon, a tyrant hybrid would be born. The hybrid would be the one to cause havoc in the world of werewolves and vampires. So, we need to prepare ourselves for the worst if such happens, Peter!"

An old man named Great One, sat in the middle of an ancient temple, as he told the young man about a prophecy. The old man seems troubled also, about the unknown destruction that is coming their way.

The map of wrinkles on the face of Great One told of the most incredible journey, he has gone through. His eye lines told of laughter, of warm smiles, and affection. His forehead told of worries past and worries present.

But mostly, the forehead was so deeply engrained like someone who had traveled through eight decades to that moment;

"Is there any way to avert the prophecy before it's too late?" Peter sounds worried.

"There is only one way to do such!" Great One replies.

"How?" Peter asked with eagerness.

"To kill him before he grows!"

"What! Is there any other way?" Peter never thought that killing the child would be the best solution to avert the prophecy.

"That is the only solution for now... Except, if a new prophecy would be revealed! But no way that is going to happen." Great One said, with a sad expression.

"What do you mean by that?" Peter asked when he saw how his face changed to a sad one.

"Because the seer is dead! And there has been no other seer for the past ten years... I'm sure the werewolves would be on the lookout for the child also!" Great One looks anxious, as he remembered the death of his friend, the seer.

"There's a huge disaster coming our way truly!" Peter looks away from the moon and stares at the old man, intensely.

"We need to find the child as soon as possible, and kill him! Go now, and Inform all our men to search for a child with a sign of turtle snake at his back, and bring him to me!!"

Great one ordered with much anger in his voice. Peter only bowed his head as a sign of respect and leaves at once...

When Williams and Susan hugged each other, Susan suddenly felt a sharp pain in her heart.

"Aarrrrghh" Susan groaned.

Williams drew her out of his arms and brushed her hair backward. The look on his face wasn't appealing in any way when he saw how Susan frowned.

"What's wrong with you? Tell me, what's happening to you, love?" Williams asked as he couldn't control his fear any longer.

"I'm losing my powers!" Susan cries out as she glared at Williams.

"Huh? How?" Williams seems confused.

"I could feel it inside! My powers are diminishing! Tell me I'm dreaming Williams! I don't want to believe it!" Susan wails, as she grabbed Williams by the shirt.

"Calm down Susan, how can you be so sure of that? What if, it's something else?" Williams consoles her.

"No!! I know what I'm feeling! My powers are gone!" Susan couldn't stop crying.

Williams is just a mortal being, so he can't comprehend what is happening to his wife at that moment. All he could do is just to continue consoling her.

"All these, are happening because of this child. Firstly, it was my family and now, my powers? Take him away from me! I regret ever giving birth to him!" Susan screamed out.

"Take it easy Susan, all is going to be well soon. No matter what you say, or do to this child, he would remain your child."

"I will never acknowledge him as my child ever! Take him away from my sight!!"

Williams gently picked the child beside her and left. Shortly after he left, Susan locked the door and sobbed her eyes out.

"All these happened because of you, Austin! I would make sure I still make your life a living hell!" Susan wailed.

Williams is at the door side, eavesdropping on all that Susan is saying. He felt really bad for her and could understand the pain, she's going through at the moment.

He knew there's nothing he could say, or do to calm her down anymore because her power is her life.

"I hope I did the right thing by asking her to leave the pregnancy. There's no how I can reveal the truth to Susan yet, about the old prophecy. But hopefully, this child won't turn out to be the tyrant hybrid of the prophecy!"

Williams muttered to himself in a low tone, as he walks away from the door...

Immediately Peter left, he went straight to the cave beside the temple and assembled their men.

"O ye descendants of bloody vampire, we have a new order from the Great one himself... We are to search for a child with the sign of a turtle snake at his back, and bring him to the temple!" Peter relay the message to them.

Everyone turned to each other and started whispering, among themselves, because they were all surprised at the sudden order from Great One.

"Silence everyone!!" Peter commanded with fury.

"But boss, why are we to search for a child out of the blue?" A bald man that was standing at the back of the crowd, suddenly asks Peter.

"I'm only here to deliver Great One's message, and not to be asked questions. Do as he says right away to avoid unforeseen havoc in our midst!!"

"Havoc!!!" They all exclaimed with fear in their hearts.

"Now, you all know what we are up against... You are all dismissed! Begin the searching right away!!" Peter ordered and returns to the temple...

They all searched every corner of Perth city in Scotland, for months, without seeing any child of such sign. After they searched for a whole two years, they gave up on the mission... But, the Great One and Peter never for once stopped searching for the child...

***Some years later***

In the blink of an eye, fifteen years have passed and no one knew about the whereabouts of the hybrid except, his stepdad, Williams.

For those 15 years, Williams has been the only one catering for the child. He named him Jaden and gave the child the best care he could ever dream of.

Susan never for once attend to Jaden as a mother, ever since she lost her powers. She focuses more on the welfare of their company and continues to look for a way, to avenge what happened to her.

Jaden grew up loving his father more, because of the love, and attention he showered on him. He also loves his mother but, she always pushes him away and Jaden seems to have gotten used to her lifestyle.

Williams paid more attention to Jaden, and make sure he taught him right from wrong because he doesn't want him to turn out to be the tyrant, according to the prophecy.

Before Jaden's 15th birthday, which would be coming up in the next few days, Williams called him to his room, to have a casual conversation with him.

"Hi dad, you called for me," Jaden said as he enters the room.

"Yeah son, we need to talk." Williams tapped the bed, asking Jaden to sit beside him.

"What do you want us to talk about?" Jaden smiles as he sat down.

"It's about your 15th birthday... My son is going to be a grown man soonest!" Williams replied, and stroke his hair in a loving manner.

"Common dad, you know have been a grown man since 10!" Jaden let out a smile.

"No matter how grown you've become, you would always be my little cute boy!"

"I agree with you dad!" They both laughed.

"Something seems to be bothering me all this while dad!" Jaden said.

"And what could that be?" Williams responded.

"Dad, why does mom detest me so much? She doesn't even want me in her sight at all!" Jaden that was smiling a moment ago, suddenly asked with a depressing tone.

"Your mom loves you dearly Jaden, even if she doesn't show it. I want you to erase any negative thoughts about her in your mind, okay?"

"But dad..."

"Don't dwell on that son... With time, you will come to understand everything!" Williams instantly cuts in.

"So, how have you been preparing for your birthday?" Williams asked, to lighten up the atmosphere.

At the mention of his birthday, Jaden quickly loosens up from his depressed mood and smiles at his dad.

"Well dad, I would be inviting all my friends from school including, Roselyn!"

"Hmmm, Roselyn? Your crush from grade one, isn't she? Williams winks at him.

"No dad, I don't have a crush on her! She's just a special friend that's all!" Jaden doesn't want to admit that he likes her.

"Hmmm, a special friend, and not your crush?" Williams burst into laughter. "Just admit that you do like her son!"

"I hate you, dad! Am out of here!" Jaden said while smiling, and ran out of the room with a guilty conscience.

After he left, Williams continues to laugh and he seems happy with how Jaden usually opens up to him on everything.

"It's been fifteen years, and nothing unusual has appeared on his body. I knew he would never be the child of prophecy. Hopefully, it continues like this!" Williams said to himself with a smile, as he stood up from the bed.

He was about to pick his phone on the bed, when he suddenly heard Jaden, screaming at the top of his voice. Then he hurriedly ran out of the room...
