Chapter 7
"Damn it!" I hissed as I tried to remove the chains on my ankles. That heartless son of a bitch really tied me up in his bedroom, leaving me with no choice but to sleep next to him or hurt my back by lying on the floor.
I sighed as I gave up. Auror felt so tired inside me, and if it wasn't for my pride, I would've laid on Calgary's comfortable bed by now, but instead, I sat on the floor and rested my head against the wall. How long would he keep me here? He's been sleeping soundly for a couple days while I had no choice but to sleep while sitting on the floor. If this was his way of teaching me a lesson, I'd rather go back to Alpha Lawrence and let him hurt me all day long.
Familiar steps began to echo outside the room. I watched the door swing open, and when Calgary saw me looking at him, he flashed his annoying smirk before he shut the door.
I quenched my eyes at him as he walked towards the rod where my chain was linked. He then wore his leather gloves and removed the silver chain, then gently pulled it. "Yep, yep," he teased, making me grit my teeth in anger.
"I'm not a fucking horse, your highness."
His smirk turned into a grin. "And it's Alpha, pup, not your highness. Now get up before I drag you out by your foot."
Rolling my eyes at his smug face, I stood up and followed him outside. He took me to the dining area of his house where a meal for me was already prepared. I must say I'm still lucky that he was serving me good food despite me being stubborn.
I waited for him to turn his back on me before I reached for the fork to stab him, but Calgary was so fast that he was able to hold me down and pin my body on the table with his hand on my neck, holding me in a controlled manner.
His brow shot up. "Not so fast, huh? Can't believe you're still trying to get away from me."
My teeth gritted in anger. "One day, my Alpha will surely find out that you're holding me captive here--"
"Then what, hmm? He'll come to rescue you?" He smirked as if he's annoying me even more. "Why don't we tell him now and you watch me kill him before your eyes, hmm? Haven't you heard enough tales about me, pup?"
Oh, I pretty much did. I heard he was the reason why the entire Nirvana District was in conflict. His attitude and desire to be called the strongest Alpha in the District broke the good relationship between the four packs in our District. It was his fault that Zenios had to face the hunters on our own. It was his fault that our land didn't have unity anymore.
"I heard a lot... and I am not impressed." I returned an annoying smirk at him. "In fact, I'm fucking disgusted."
He sneered. "What a really fucking mouth you got there, hmm? I wonder how long it's gonna take you to grow your tongue back once I cut it?"
His threat gave me chills, because I knew he was capable of doing it, but I tried my best not to show him any hint of fear in my body as I stared back into his evergreen eyes.
"Why? The truth hurts you a lot, huh?"
"Oh, not at all." He licked his lower lip then sniffed me. "Not when it's coming from a scaredy cat who obviously wants to hide behind her former Alpha."
"My only Alpha," I corrected, but Calgary gave me another insulting smirk.
"You mean the missing Alpha?"
I blinked. "W--What did you say?"
His smirk formed into a grin. "Oh, you haven't heard? He ran off like a fucking coward in the middle of a fight, leaving his own pack to death. Tsk tsk. So much for having mercy and compassion for his people, huh?"
No. He's lying, right? Luhence would never abandon us. He would never turn his back on Zenios.
I pursed my lips together as I tried to keep our eye contact. "Luhence is not a coward. He will never leave our pack."
"Well... news flash, baby." He grinned. "Mayhem Pack just took in the last of your people. No one is coming to save you, so you better start behaving or--"
"You're lying! He will never do that to us!"
"Don't you raise your voice at me, pup," he warned.
I narrowed my eyes at him. "You're just feeding me lies because you're a fucking pussy--"
"Be careful who you're calling pussy. I might show you the real beast in me once you push me farther." He let go of me and tied the chain on another hook. "You're not gonna get off this chain until you learn how to bow to me."
My fists clenched. "A real leader will never force his people to submit to him. He lets his action and leadership attract their loyalty."
"Sorry, pup, but those lame sayings don't apply in Claivan."
"Why, hmm? Afraid that if you wouldn't be tough, nobody would stay with you?" I smirked. "I bet that's the reason--"
"You better keep those lips shut." He scanned me from head to toe before the corners of his lips curved upward for a provoking grin. "You wouldn't like my idea of shutting you up..."
Chills traveled down my spine after I heard his words. I wasn't born yesterday. I pretty much know how to read between the lines, but I doubt he'd really do it.
I folded my arms in front of my chest as I annoyed him more. "Look who's getting pissed? The so-called big bad wo--"
My eyes widened and my heart almost jumped out of my chest when he clutched my hair before he drew our faces closer until his minty breath was already filtering inside my mouth.
"Such a stubborn puppy..." he uttered, and the next thing I knew, Calgary was already kissing my lips in a ruthless way I wasn't supposed to enjoy... but I still did. I hate that my defenses fell easily as I tasted his lips, and I hate that my wolf begged me to kiss him back with the same intensity.
I gasped for air when he stopped. My mind was in a total haze as I looked back into his golden rims, wondering why his kisses felt different to the kisses I shared with Luhence. Auror had never reacted this way before, and the more Calgary was staying close to me, the less control I had over my wolf.
As if Calgary felt my struggle to tame Auror, he clenched his jaw and turned his back on me. "Eat your food," he demanded in a raspy way, as if he, too, was having a hard time controlling his own wolf.
My knees turned rubbery as I watched him leave, and when I was finally alone, I grabbed the chair to sit while I calmed myself down.
This isn't good. He can't possibly be my real mate.
I drew in a sharp breath as I shut my eyes.
I have to leave this place as soon as possible or else I might not be able to save myself from my own heat anymore...
Chapter 24: More Than EnoughMy body was sore all over because of the training but Calgary's presence helped me heal faster. When Hyrum's men came during dinner to inform us that help had finally arrived and the perimeters were safe, somehow, he felt a sense of relief even for a short while."Would you like some more soup?" I asked Calla while we sit on the table with Ahma, Lynel, Alpha Lawrence, and Calgary.Calla nodded happily. "Thank you, Mommy," she said before giving me a sweet smile.Calgary caressed his daughter's hair before he leaned to me. "We'll just talk about something in my office. Finish your food."I jerked my head in response. When he left with Lynel, Ahma, and Alpha Lawrence, I stood up carrying Calla's bowl to get her more soup, but Lindsey immediately followed me to the table where the caserole was.She crossed her arms and shot up a brow at me. "Getting so comfy playing the fake mommy and wife role, huh?"I rolled my eyes and shook my head. "Not now. I'm too tire
Chapter 23: A Taste of EuphoriaSomehow, the talk I had with Alpha Lawrence a few days ago, helped us communicate a little better. He no longer avoids me that much, and I could speak to him directly now without feeling aneasy.I took a series of deep breaths to center myself just like what Alpha Lawrence instructed me to do. He was circling around me, holding a silver knife and ready to attack me any moment now."Tracking is more than just following a scent nor listening to your surrounding. It's connecting to everything around you, being one with the ground, the wind, and every living thing that you can reach, but your gift has no use if you're too slow to dodge an attack," said Alpha Lawrence, an in a blink of an eye, we has already behind me, the knife was only half an inch away from my throat.Goodness, he was really fast. No wonder he was known for his combat skills. Now I wanted to think his Luna poisoned him on the night of the selection, because I know for sure that with his s
Chapter 22: A Painful TalkI didn't know if I was anxious because I would be training with Alpha Lawrence today or I was just worried because Calgary joined his Deltas last night to guard our territories. No matter how many times I rolled over my bed, I couldn't really bring myself to sleep. Maybe I was both anxious and worried, but despite the lack of sleep, I still got up before sunrise to prepare for my first day of training. When I went down to get myself some coffee to wake me up, Alpha Lawrence was already in the kitchen, making himself some brewed coffee. As if he realized that I was planning to get myself some, he cleared his throat and saved a cup for me.I pursed my lips as I walked the length towards the cupboard. My heart was going crazy with the silence enveloping us, and when I finally had the courage to glance his way, I spoke."G--Good morning, Alpha."He paused from taking a sip but he didn't look at me. "Just because we're in Claivan doesn't mean I'll be nice during
Chapter 21: Her Special Ability"Prudence just lost the last of their best trackers. All we have right now is Hyrum," said Calgary as we gathered at the pack house with Alpha Quira, her Beta, Ariz, Lynel, Alpha Lawrence and Ahma.My fingers clasped. The atmosphere around was too thick, probably because we all know that our District is in so much trouble.Mayhem had no trackers for two decades now while Claivan was never given any. Trackers are special types of wolves who can sense anything even when it was miles away. They were born with the strongest senses. Some show their abilities early like Mom, some were late bloomers.Zenios' tracker was my mother that's why even when she was only a Beta she-wolf back then, she would always work hand in hand with Alpha Lawrence because she was very significant to our pack.I saw Alpha Lawrence straightened his back. "If Nadine was able to sense Luhence while everybody else didn't, maybe that's because she inherited Nimpha's abilities."All eyes
Chapter 20: A Storm is ComingDried leaves whipped into the foggy air as Calgary and I ran faster through the woods. His wolf kept on challenging Auror, but with us finally gaining back our strength, she showed him we were their equal. Auror jumped over a fallen tree and rolled over the thick bed of dried vegetation before she gained her momentum again, but Calgary's wolf was fast enough to stop Auror from jumping over the cliff.Auror let out a whimper of affection as Calgary's wolf licked her face. She rubbed her head on his neck, gaining more power from the bond we share with our mate. We had been running for hours, but our hunger for freedom felt insatiable. Auror and I had never been permitted to roam around Nirvana this way, but with Calgary accompanying us, we knew we would be safe.Calgary's wolf howled, telling us to finally go back. I felt Auror's desire to ask for a little more time, but when thunders began roaring in the sky, she changed her mind and followed Calgary's wol
Chapter 19: Meeting His WolfAfter Lynel took Calla to Ahma's house, Calgary and I went out for a walk in the woods. I realized he would explain why his daughter called me 'Mommy', maybe he was thinking that I didn't like it at all.As soon as we got deeper into the woods, I cleared my throat and looked at him. "It's the first time I heard Calla speak."There was a glint of loneliness in his eyes when he met my gaze. "She stopped talking since her mother left us. She was barely four... and that was the worst night of my life not because I just lost my Luna, but because Calla's painful plea for her mother not to go was the last thing we heard from my daughter."I swallowed when my chest felt a different kind of pain, as if Calgary was letting me feel how he felt the night his Luna left to be with someone else. Maybe if I was in his shoes, I wouldn't be able to handle the pain, and I know, even if Calgary wasn't telling me, what his Luna did left a scar in his heart. A fear that no matt
