Maverick's POV
“It's fine.” The stranger I had bumped into said. I wasnjust thankful that the coffee I had gotten for Chloe, Damien, and me. It was then, I raised my head and stared into her eyes. I was staring at absolute beauty. Her brown eyes captivated me, making me choke on my words. Her hair was very long, and since we were very close to each other, I didn't get the chance to look at her body, although I wouldn't have. “Erm… I'm sorry… I… I… I should get going now.” I said, finding it in me to leave. I was about turning to leave when she held me back. “Come here. Have a seat with me, and let's talk.” She said, looking straight into my eyes. She was definitely older than me, and she was way hotter than I'd have ever imagined any older lady that'd ever speak to me. “Right now?” I asked. “Uhm, I have to…” “It shouldn't take long.” She said, walking towards a particular seat in the restaurant. She settled in, and her guard or whoever he was, walked behind me as I went to sit close to her. He stood by the side and turned his back to us. I did not know what to say, how to say it, or what to feel. “What's your name?” She asked me, and as uncomfortable as I was getting, I knew I had to answer her. “Maverick. Maverick Gray.” I said. “Well, I'm Blue. Blue Ashton, but you can call me Ruins.” She said, looking at me confidently. I was barely meeting her eyes. “Ashton as in Ashton?” I muttered, not like I'd have asked it out. I'd rather get home and get full details on the looks of all the Ashtons I've read about. “Yeah. Ashton as in Ashton.” She said. I do not know how she heard me, or if she heard me, but I really have to leave this place. “You attend NYU?” “Yeah. Junior year.” “Medicine, I guess?” “Engineering.” “How do you still keep a pretty face? Most of the engineers I know almost lost their minds.” “I guess I've been finding it pretty easy.” I shrugged, and she smirked. “Tell me about your family.” Blue said, and I was taken aback again. This is the second person that'd be this interested in me. The first never even asked this fast. “Uhm… I don't… I don't think I'm comfortable discussing that topic with a total stranger.” I said while she was on her phone. “I'm so sorry if I made it sound like I was asking.” She said, looking at me. I could swear that I saw her eyeballs turn red. As terrifying as that was, it was pretty fast. “Are you fine? erm… your eyes.” “Answer the question, Maverick.” She let the red glow stay this time, and I was beyond terrified. I could not shout, neither could I scream. The Ashtons aren't supposed to be dangerous people, they're just a family of insane billionaires. “Erm…” I was breathing hard, trying to find my calm, and also get my head in the right space. “I don't have parents. I lost my family when I turned 18.” “How've you been able to pull through college then?” “Student loans.” I responded, breathing really hard, and unable to compose myself. “From what I can see here, you have the perfect CGPA. You're also in your junior year.” She smiled and nodded her head. “You're what I'd call a nerd.” The fact that she could easily pull out my records had me even more terrified. “I'm not a nerd.” I said calmly. I hate being referred to as one. “When last did you attend a party?” “Six months ago? What does that have to do with it?” “Who made you go?” “Chloe?” I shrugged. “And when last have you had a drink?” “Not really a fan.” “A smoke?” “Not a fan of that either.” “And you want me to believe you're not a nerd?” “See, I don't know what you've got going on to be having glowing eyeballs, but I'd really just like to get out of here, take some coffee with my friends and just continue living like life's good.” I said, trying so hard not to show fear. “Look, Maverick, you're an A+ student, so I'll only say this once, and I'm pretty sure you'll get everything.” She said, and then she smirked. “I am a Werewolf. An Alpha at that.” She said, and her bodyguard turned back, shocked that she was saying all these things. “Everything you've ever read in books about my kind are real, well, except a few things that you'll get to know of later.” She didn't stop there, she went on to alter my whole reality of humans and wolves. She didn't stop even when my head felt like it'd explode. “...and the craziest part of all these things is that you are my mate.” She said casually, striking me with the biggest rod. “I know you're just 23, and I'm 32, but I'm sure we can make it work.” “I an willing to offer you a deal for just six months. Marry me, keep appearances in the wolf world. Make my ex jealous by being so perfect when he's close, and I'll make sure you're free from money troubles, and also, literally any trouble.” “Refuse to take this deal, or tell anyone anything I've just told you, and I'll rip you to bits, and no one would even bat an eyelid.” She said so calmly, not even raising her voice at any point, but it all screamed authority and power. I was dazed! Shocked! It was like I had been put into a whole new idea of the world. Maybe even everything I've ever known has been a lie. “Can I go out for some air?” I asked, breathing pretty fast. “Uhm, I also have to give them their coffee, it's getting pretty late.” I swallowed hard. She put her neat and beautiful hand on the table, and her claws grew out, scaring me even more. “You have five minutes to come back with a positive answer, or I'll kill you.” She smirked, and I hurriedly grabbed the tray. They almost poured again as I was terribly vibrating. I rushed out, and Chloe was still giggling with Damian. “Oh damn, I almost forgot this dork went to get coffee.” He said, and Chloe laughed, beating his chest, taking the coffee from my hand. “Stop it.” She giggled. “He's my friend.” “Well I see why you like him. He doesn't have a pair of balls.” Damian mocked me again, and she beat him again, telling him to stop. “Thank you, Mav.” She said, patting my arm. The only plan I could make up was to run outside, beg Chloe to run away with me, so we can start a new life, but it doesn't seem like it'd happen. How far away would I even get from a pack of Werewolf hunting me down? What should I do? How would I get out of this unscathed?Maverick's POV I stood in front of my mirror in the room. Liam and Chloe stood by the door with their arms folded. I could already see the tears welling up in Chloe's eyes, but there was really nothing I could do about it. I turned to look at them, and I smiled.“You don't really have to go, you know?” Chloe begged.“I have to.” I responded gently, pulling her in for a hug. She cried in my arms, holding me very tightly. “Who knows? I might come back home safely.” I shrugged, caressing her hair. It didn't make her feel any better, rather she just cried the more in my arms. I couldn't bear to see her cry, so I pulled back from the hug. “Regardless of whatever happens, we have a plan, and we'll stick to it.” I said, holding her hand. “It might just work out fine.” “Where did this sudden optimism emanate from?” Liam asked, and I chuckled, looking at him with a shrug. “You can still run away, you know?” Chloe suggested.“Nah, that'll just make me look guilty.” I pushed the idea out
Maverick's POV It was the eve of my last day in court. The day that would determine my life from here on, and I was spending it with Chloe and Liam. Blue was nice enough not to ask for it since we had spent the past week together. Despite the fake news that rolled out everyday from several blogs and stations, we moved from gala to gala, from party to party, from my dorm to her house, and we had fun in every place possible. We sat under the night sky, somewhere in the woods, just enjoying the night air. I wasn't convinced about getting free of this. In fact, I was hoping that it'd just blow over, and they'd forget about me. Having my life under scrutiny and in danger by people who believe that I killed someone I don't even know was something I wasn't interested in facing. “Maverick.” Chloe called, and I turned my face to look at her.“Huh?” I asked, trying to enjoy what could be my last night in the world. “No matter what happens tomorrow, we'll always be here for you.” She assure
Blue's POV When I woke up, Maverick was no longer by my side. I could not see any of his belongings, so I knew he had left. I sighed, thinking deeply about how well he had gotten to me. I wasn't thinking straight anymore. I just have to save him in any way possible. I caused this whole mess, and it has somehow spiralled out of control. But how else did I expect it to play out? That he'll just be set free. I was plagued by several guilty thoughts when the door opened and Maverick walked in with a tray. I was shocked.“I thought you had left.” I groaned, sitting up as he walked towards me.“Can't leave you when I've not fed you physical food.” Maverick muttered, gently placing the tray on my lap. There was bread, tea, croissants, and butter. “There was no one downstairs, and I had the whole kitchen to myself, so I made you something to eat.” Maverick muttered. “Thank you baby.” I muttered, leaning in. He met me halfway, and we kissed. He took one croissant, and went to pack his ba
Maverick's POV The ride home was very quiet on my part. I just sat in the car, staring outside the window. It happened suddenly, but I couldn't say I was shocked. There was no way I expected them not to try anything to get me down in jail by all means. One of the other wolves was in my car and was bringing it back to the pack house. We left in numbers so no one would be able to attack us. Allison kept checking in on me through the rearview mirror, and I'd always smile every time. This was the longest drive we've had back to the pack house.Blue on the other hand was receiving calls, and kept on debunking everything they had to say about me.“C'mon, don't tell me that you're too stupid to see that that's AI, it'd break my heart.” She said to one.“Do better, you really don't think that one stab to the chest would have done that to Billy. Not even a silver knife can do that to an Alpha of his rank, and why the fuck was he just standing and watching?” When we arrived at the pack hous
Blue's POV Luca was the one blowing up my phone with calls. I could only hope that Maverick didn't see who was constantly calling me. I could already guess why Luca was calling me. Afterall, I had just told his investor friend to go to hell.“Allison, reduce the volume of the music.” I said, calling Luca. He picked up the call before it could even ring. “Blue, I've been trying to reach you.” He muttered over the phone. “Yeah. I saw that.” I said nonchalantly. “Why's that?” “I wanted to apologize about how things went the last time.” Luca said, and I frowned, definitely not expecting him to even talk about that. “Okay?”“Look, I'm really sorry.” Luca said, sighing. “I know that I've gone wrong in several ways, and I can't begin to atone for each of them one by one…” There was a short pause before he continued speaking. “But, I'll apologize for them every day of my life till my last if I have to.” He said, and I chuckled. “It's okay, Luca.” I whispered. “I didn't know that tha
Maverick's POV It was easier to see Blue's baby bump now. Her stomach grew bigger by the minute. I thought she'd use a surrogate since her duties as Alpha might be so important to her, but she shocked me. She was still in my embrace, and I kept patting her head. I had just finished with Tiffany, and the plan might just be solid, although it was all dependent on luck and chance. “Why do you think my life's in danger?” I asked calmly, disengaging from the hug. “Richard… my brother…. He's trying to get revenge.” Blue shrugged. “I thought he was headed here.” Her phone was blowing up, but she kept ending the calls. At some point, I was worried that she'd slam the phone in my face. “I'm just happy to see that you're not in danger.” She whispered, holding my arms. I scoffed at her words.“I'm always in danger. You just don't know it.” I said, holding her waist. She hugged me again, and I hugged her back. I might just be the definition of everything I never thought I'd be. I could not
