Chapter 2: Failed Escape

Once again, Gray was dragged by the big wolf again. That run was her best shot at getting away, and she fumbled it. She threw her arms around, hoping to catch flesh for a painful scratch but never did. The wolf's fur was too thick for her fingernails to dig in. And the next thing she knew, she was in heavy chains, sauntering along angrily behind the girls.

Gray noticed that the girl in front of her kept glancing back at her, trying to figure her out. She knew putting up as much of a fight as Gray did was extremely futile, but nobody would advocate for them! Their alphas sold them out, so Gray had to do something.

The guards put her and the others into an empty room filled with lightroom. The lights coming from the walls made Gray angrier than before. One of the guards unlocked her chains after locking the door. He told her to untie the others. Gray wanted to refuse as a simple act of defiance, but her fellow sisters and captives needed her. She stuck her middle finger up at any walls, unsure which one they were observing.

Gray untied every knot in the room, and they all sat silently in a circle, staring at each other. When the silence was too unbearable, she broke the solemn silence.

"Out there, we will be fighting for our life, girls. I don't have any idea if we will meet again. So, I'd like to introduce myself. My name's Gray, and I'm twenty years old. I know I'm way past the age of coming here, but my Alpha recently found me out, and I got busted," I told them.

Gray was glad she spoke up because another girl's face lit up a bit, and was encouraged to speak.

"I'm Monica, eighteen, and my alpha sold me to pay all my parent's debt," she said.

Most of the girls there were sold by their Alphas. It's either for their value or entertainment.

Another shy girl piped up, timidly raising a finger to let everyone know she was there.

"Uhm, I'm Alice. I'm seventeen and-"

The room erupted into protests and gasps. Gray was the loudest and most upset out of all of them.

"You're just a minor! When did you turn seventeen?"

"L-Last week, but I don't see how that-"

"You've just turned seventeen? And they took you?"

The older girls of their age were chattering quite loudly about this situation.

Gray was completely spaced out and looking off into the distance at one of the four glowing walls. At seventeen, she remembered not knowing anything about Haquihana. Yes, Gray shifted when she was sixteen and started to give off an alluring scent every month, but she doesn't have any clue about it. She and her family were running away, trying to get out of the Asian continent as soon as possible.

Her father accidentally discovered Megumi, Gray's mother, and a she-wolf from the Hellhound pack, a notorious pack known as the strongest pack in Asia. Megumi was Gray's father's mate, and they ran away together despite Megumi being betrothed to the second-largest pack in Asia. Gray's parents hid anywhere to avoid Megumi's father's wrath.

During their run, Gray and her older brother Greg were born. When Gray reached seventeen, they were about to leave Asia with the help of her mother's friend. Still, unfortunately, the hunters found them, and Megumi sacrificed herself to free her husband and children, especially Gray because she knew her daughter was a Haquihana. Her dad also almost didn't make it, but fortunately, the ship they left before the hunters could even ride.

Losing his true mate made Gray's dad succumb to sickness, and the only thing that kept him alive was his medicine and his promise to his mate to look out for Gray until one true male would take her and make her a mate.

Without Gray's knowledge, her father would slip a suppressant pill every time she ate. Gray was not detected until she was twenty when her father ran out of pills. Gray knew this after she turned eighteen and started to train hard because she knew she would be found out sooner or later.

Gray's heart broke for Alice. Seventeen wasn't that young, but she was sixteen a little over a week ago. It's unforgiving, especially if the arena they were about to go in was full of alphas. Alphas fought dirty and could kill them accidentally if they caught up.

Alice looked extremely confused. She must not know her possible fate, but all the other girls did, which caused the current riot within the four walls.

A door that wasn't seen from the inside opened, and a man walked in with two guards behind him.

Gray growled. She recognized him. He was her Alpha, the one who sold her out.

The other girls bowed their heads in respect, but Gray looked at him right in his eyes.

"You bastard," Gray spat.

Alpha Rex snapped his head in her direction and walked toward her. Gray held his stare. There was a natural part of her screaming at her to submit and show respect, but another part of her that simply couldn't, and that part of her was the stronger one.

Alpha Rex stood inches away from Gray now. She held her chin up high and stared right into his soul. His almost electric green eyes surveyed her carefully before grabbing her chin hard.

"Oh, I know you. You're the spitfire, aren't you? You're Gray, Red's daughter, right?"

Alpha Rex let go of her chin, but his lips trailed to her ear.

"Four alphas are waiting on you outside, Gray, and they will want you. They will see you as a challenge. If you don't get yourself ripped to shred first, I know a man who will put you in your place and tame you. Don't worry, Bambi. Only an alpha can provide the discipline you've needed all along."

Alpha Rex chuckled and backed away.

Gray wanted to slap Alpha Rex so hard, almost to twist his neck ninety degrees, killing him instantly. How dare he mock her like this? This was all his doing!
