Instead, I watched the ripples spreading across the pond, following the movement of the little fish swimming beneath the surface. One fish was chasing another as they both ran around in the waters like the way some of the temple kids chase after each other putting dirt on each other. “Would that be a problem?” I replied after a while. “Not at all.” He paused. “Provided you don’t intend to catch a cold and make grandma healer spend another seven days nursing you back to health.” A faint smile tugged at my lips despite myself. “Grandma healer would be very thrilled then. She seems to have a special interest in me being sick.” “I’m touched by your concern anyway.” “Don’t flatter yourself. I’m concerned about the trouble you’ll cause if you fall sick again.” I turned my head and looked at him finally. Karl stood a few steps aw
Olivia POV I came out of the room hours later, after Amelia left to get some fresh air in the garden. I learnt from her that I had been unconscious for seven days. No wonder my whole body felt so stiff. Getting out of bed, I could feel exhaustion ingrained in my bones. It was as though I had been crushed beneath a mountain. I had never felt this weak in my entire life. I wore a loose robe before leaving for the gardens at the back of the Moon Temple. It was a secluded spot and the perfect place for relaxation. Whenever I needed to clear my head or escape the restlessness of Amelia and the demanding duties of the Lady of the Moon Temple, I would normally come here. There was a small spring-water fountain in one corner of the garden. Its clear water flowed through the yard, supplying the flower beds and the surrounding vegetation. The chirping of birds filled the air as they flew around, occasionally perching on the flowers. Insects fluttered among the plants, carefully avoiding
Olivia POVA hypocrite?A coward?Someone who spoke about protecting the world but couldn’t bring herself to act when the lives of her loved ones were at stake?I couldn’t accept that. But the price I had paid was Alpha Kingsley—the mate I had wanted nothing more to do with, despite his attempts to right his wrongs.Despite my cold shoulders and constant reminders that I didn’t need his help, he had still stepped in at the last moment. He had given up his life to buy me a chance at survival. An opportunity to live, even if he believed it would only be brief.I pressed a trembling hand against my chest. Why did it hurt so much?I had spent so long convincing myself that I was better off without him. I had reminded myself countless times that his regret didn’t erase the pain he had caused me.And I still believed that. But none of it changed what he had done in Blood Valley. He had chosen to die so I could live. And I didn’t know what to do with that truth.A thousand thoughts—no, milli
Olivia POVMy eyes flew open as I woke up from what felt like a coma, only to discover that I was back in the Moon Temple. How long had I been out?At first, I was dazed, struggling to make sense of my surroundings. The familiar ceiling above me and the faint scent of herbs in the room slowly brought me back to reality. For a few precious moments, I wished I could remain in that state of blankness, where I was completely clueless about everything happening around me.Just a moment of peace, even if brief.A moment to escape this cruel world and all its schemes.Unfortunately, the respite didn’t last. The memories came rushing back, one after another, until I could no longer pretend that I had forgotten anything. The battle at Blood Valley. The ancient god.The dark sphere. And him.Alpha Kingsley. My deadbeat mate.I was supposed to hate him. I was supposed to have nothing more to do with him.Not after everything I had been through. Not after what he had done to me. Not after the pai
Olivia POVThe four elements of the universe began to dance around me.Fire gave birth to lightning, thin white threads that crawled up my arms and snapped at the air. Earth gave birth to metal, and the broken stones of the chamber lifted from the ground, hardening and gleaming as they rose. Water gave birth to ice, a cold mist that spiraled around my legs and froze into jagged crystals. Wind multiplied into countless blades, spears, and swords that circled my body, humming with a fearsome aura. Then I called the Moon.Silver light poured down from the cracked sky and wove through every element, binding them together. I added my bloodline power, the oldest thing in me, the thing the First Moon had left behind in my veins. And last of all, I bit down on my lip, let a single drop of blood gather on my tongue, and mixed it with the tear that slid down my cheek. The Moon Staff screamed in my grip. The energy gathering around it was unlike anything I had ever summoned. Even Lucy fell sil
Alpha Kingsley POVI had never run so hard in my life. The courtyard behind me was a field of corpses and smoke, and the way into the ruins had been choked with fallen stone and black cultists who threw themselves at my claws as though death were a gift. I tore through them all. Argon drove my legs, and my paws split the rubble like it was dry bark."Faster," he snarled inside my head. "She is going to get hurt," he urged me."I know," I muttered, irritated by his constant nagging, as if I could not understand the stakes too. Whenever it involved Olivia, he forgot that he was my wolf.I could feel it. The bond had been a thin, trembling thread for the last several minutes, and now it flared with a pain that was not mine. It lodged in my ribs and my left arm, and it made my vision swim.I burst through the last collapsed pathway and skidded to a halt. The chamber in front of me was destroyed. Pillars lay broken like the bones of some enormous beast, and the floor had split open, leakin
