Chapter 6

                                                                  Mason

"I thought you said to just steer clear of the Gordon Twins," I said to Ajax as we made our way towards Writer's Workshop.

"I did, and I stand by that statement, I know Leo because he's also on the football team but that doesn't mean you should," He said before we exited the stairwell towards the ground floor, "The Gordon Twins are nice enough, but it's best to not get involved with them. They're the children of the current Alpha of the Crimson Wolves, one of the most infamous packs in the States, and if you piss them off there's no one on this earth that can save you."

"I had both of them in my first class today, and I could've sworn that the sister kept staring at me," I said as we arrived at my class, "I swear I'm not making this up, Ajax."

"Then you better pray that she ain't mad at you. She might be more reserved than her brother, but she's just as, if not more, dangerous than him."

"Alright, thanks for helping me out," I said before I walked into class and Ajax went off on his own.

Writer's Workshop was the most fun I'd had all day, with it being one of the more creativity-based classes I had on my schedule, we did some icebreakers before doing a small activity for the rest of class. We were instructed to write a short story that took up at least half a page, and so, naturally, I got distracted writing and took up almost two. When the teacher went around collecting our assignments, she paused at my desk to look at what I had written before letting out a soft chuckle.

"Mason, I'm sure you didn't mean to do this, but please try to not make my job harder than it already is."

"Yeah, dude, she's already got enough papers to grade without you adding two full pages," The guy sitting next to me said, getting a good chunk of the class to laugh.

"I'm sorry for getting distracted in my writing," I said as I tried to come up with a smart comment, "I'll try to not be a full-on lightbulb next time, maybe I'll downgrade to a matchstick or a BIC lighter."

"I've got to give credit where credit is due, you've got some sarcasm of your own there, bud," He said through a light chuckle, "It's good to know this class won't be entirely dull with someone else having a smart mouth."

"Oh yes, because that's what I need, two sarcastic students sitting elbow to elbow," The teacher said as she made her way back to her desk, "With that out of the way, you all are free to socialize amongst yourselves, just try to keep it down."

After that, the rest of the students in the class started chatting and moving around while I put my earbuds in, resuming my playlist to continue writing. I was continuing the story I had started during my first hour, with some metal music playing, when the bell rang signaling that class was over. I put my notebook back in my bag before leaving the class, only to look to my side and see the dude from before standing beside me.

"Hey, I was trying to get your attention but you had your earbuds in," He said before extending his hand for me to shake, "My name's Connor, I used to be the only smartass in Writer's Workshop, but now it seems I got some friendly competition."

"More or less, my mom was the one who taught me sarcasm when I was young," I said as I shook his hand, "Whenever I came up with a witty comeback or a sarcastic comment that was good, she'd just reply with 'The Sarcasm is strong with this one' before ruffling my hair or pulling my hat off."

"So, what if I were to pull off your beanie then?"

"Well, if you did that, I'd have to kill you," I said in a completely monotone voice, he looked at me like I was a psychopath so I won this round, "I'm kidding, just don't touch my hat and we won't have any issues. It's kind of personal, and I don't like people fucking with it."

"Understandable, you heading to lunch too?"

"Yeah, my mom told me that she was working on getting me a school lunch account set up, but until then I have some money to get something to eat," I said as we made our way up the staircase, "What about you, huh? Where'd you find your talent for sarcasm?"

"Well, my parents told me when they adopted me that I was already quite sassy," He said as we entered the cafeteria, "They used to say that when they first took me to school, I told one of my teachers that I already knew how prison worked. I learned that day that teachers don't appreciate their students referring to the school as a prison, and even more so being referred to as guards."

"Well, I can see the distinction, even if it's a bit dramatic," I said as we made our way through the lunch line, "School is less so a prison, and more so a training facility where they don't teach you anything, except how to follow orders without questioning them."

"It was at that moment that Mason was shot by a sniper dressed up as a lunch lady," He said as we grabbed our food and laughed as we left the cafeteria to find somewhere to sit.

We spent the majority of lunch talking about what classes we had and which ones we enjoyed, which ones we didn't, and which ones we knew we would loath. Towards the end of lunch hour, I shifted topics to the Gordon Twins and asked what he knew about them. He essentially said the same thing that Ajax had told me, that it's best to not get involved with them, and leave them to their own devices.

"Don't get me wrong, I'd be lying if I said that the sister wasn't hot," He said and I tried not to chuckle, hot didn't even begin to describe her, "But I'd rather stay alive than shoot my shot at a badass wolf that would more than likely want to rip my throat out, with her teeth."

"I swear I've heard that somewhere before," I said as I finished up my burger, "But then again, I've sworn I've heard a lot of things before, so maybe not."

"All I'm going to say is that as much as I can see you taking an interest in either of the twins, I don't judge. Trust me when I say, don't get involved with anything involving them, or you'll die or maybe live long enough to regret it."

"Thank you, so much, for that wonderful amount of positivity," I chuckled before standing up to throw my plate away, "I appreciate it, but I'm going to head out now."

"I get it, that probably put a sour taste in your mouth regarding the two, but it's better to tell you the truth regarding that pair. They're dangerous if you piss them off, and if they ever took an interest in me, I would've moved across the country by the time I heard about it."

After that beautiful moment with Connor, I left the cafeteria to head toward my next class which was history. This would probably be the class that would make or break my day, I always kinda sucked at history as it never really caught my attention long enough to learn anything other than Don't be stupid. As I was lost in thought, I wasn't paying attention to my surroundings and could've taken my advice on the whole stupid thing. I walked straight into someone and fell on my ass, looking up I almost wanted to look up at the sky and ask to be killed right then and there. The brother, Leo, of the Gordon Twins, looked like he wanted to laugh his ass off, while his sister looked like she was studying me.

"Need a hand there, bud?"
