LOGINHenry's POV
The moment my claws kissed her flesh, I felt something snap inside of me. This was the third mate Chrysantha was making me kill, but something about this one felt different, and it was not due to the fact that I had already impregnated her.
In fact, all of my mates that I had brought into the palace, Chrysantha, had made me lie to them with hopes that they would get pregnant and give her pups, but just seconds after we might have mated, she always insisted that I get rid of them, which I always did.
And why was I with Chrysantha even though she wasn't my mate? One of my rival packs, whom I had been scheming to conquer, belonged to her father.
Chrysantha had presented her father's pack to me on a platter of gold, offering to marry me so I could join the two of our packs together.
That was an offer no Alpha in their right senses would reject.
Chrysantha's father had no male successor, making whoever she gets married to the next in line. So we got married and I succeeded as the alpha of her pack.
And for that, I owe Chrysantha everything.
It wasn't until months after that I realized the moon goddess was against our union. We tried all that we could to make Chrysantha get pregnant for me, but she couldn't because she wasn't my destined mate.
It was Jericho, my beta who suggested that I bring in my mate and get her pregnant for me instead.
I was elated when Chrysantha bought into the idea. But when I finally sniffed out my mate and brought her back to the pack, Chrysantha felt her position would be threatened and told me to kill her.
I tried to convince her that we needed to wait for her to bear my pups first, but Chrysantha was adamant, and I ended up killing my mate just to prove my love for her.
It happened with the first, the second and now...this one is named Elara.
She was beautiful and had unique features. Her eyes were like those of the goddess, and she smelled like lavender.
Her skin was as soft as silk and each time my fingers grazed her skin, I felt a soothing feeling wash over me.
And when I made love to her, it seemed as though my wolf would explode inside of me, it awakened something primal inside of me.
I'd never felt more alive, not ever with Chrysantha, not even with any of my previous mates.
When I walked into that brothel, she had the most beautiful scent on her. It was the only thing that filled my nostrils when I walked in.
I wished Chrysantha had let her last more with me.
"Guards!" I thundered, hovering over her lifeless body.
"Take her to the forest and finish things off," I ordered them before I forcefully tore my gaze from her body and walked away.
"Yes, your majesty!" They chorused as they swooped her body off the floor with ease.
A wide smile was dancing across Chrysantha's face when I returned to her. I won't be granting any of her wishes for the time being and we would just have to seek other ways in sourcing for children.
***Elara's Pov***
Something deep within me awakened the moment my back hit the stony ground, something ancient, primal, and furious.
I couldn't hold back and I let out a loud scream that ripped through the night, not in pain, but in power.
Light exploded from my body, searing brighter than moonfire. My wounds had sealed before blood could spill. A force greater than myself surged through my veins, unlocking powers that had laid dormant since my birth.
And then darkness ensued.
When I opened my eyes next, the scent of pine and earth filled my lungs. I was lying on a bed of leaves, my body was weak but alive.
A shadow was looming over me. Broad shoulders, sharp eyes that glowed like embers in the dark.
"Where.... where am I?" I muttered, trying to get up from the bed.
"Don't! Lay back, you need all the rest you can get." His voice was majestic, sending ripples into my stomach.
"I...I need to eat something." The words escaped my lips, surprising my own self.
"My beta will arrive soon. He's coming along with food for you."
'His beta?' Who was this man, and why was he so.....
I looked up at his face.
His gaze on me held no pity, no hesitation, only curiosity and something that felt dangerously like protectiveness.
I have barely enough words to describe how handsome he was. His face seemed perfectly sculpted, with sharp jaw lines that looked like they could slice through anything. Even a woman's heart.
He crouched down beside me, and the smell of pine grew stronger. I could tell that he had been in the forest for a long while.
"I found you unconscious in the forest. Your body was glowing faintly when I found you."
"My body was glowing faintly?" I repeated, a look of confusion etching across my face.
"My name is Damion, you don't need to be afraid of me." He said and his eyes fell upon the side of my body.
I followed his gaze, only to realize that I was subtly leaning away from him.
"What is your name?" He asked.
I searched my memory before speaking. "Elara."
"Who are you?"
I fell silent.
"It's alright, you don't need to tell me who you are now. As soon as Luca arrives, I'll take you back to my pack so you can be properly treated."
I suspected Luca was the name of his beta. And that meant that I was in the presence of another Alpha.
"Please do not hurt me," I begged.
His gaze on me intensified. There was a brief silence between us.
"You don't realize who you are, do you?”
Damion’s POVThe silence that followed my entrance was deadly. Not a single wolf moved.Thousands of eyes remained fixed on me as I walked slowly toward Saleen, the silver energy dancing around my fingers like living lightning.I could feel Elara's powers hovering around me, surging violently beneath my skin, far stronger than I imagined. And from the horrified look spreading across Henry’s face, he felt it too.“No…” Henry whispered, and I flashed a smirk at him.Beside him, Shawn looked equally stunned while Eddy’s entire expression collapsed into fear. But none of them looked as shattered as Chrysantha. I could see the disbelief written boldly on her face. Her face drained of color as realization dawned on her that I had betrayed her.“Damion…” she tired to speak, but I looked away immediately. Because right now, none of them mattered, only power did.The energy inside me pulsed again, hotter this time, and even the air around me vibrated under its pressure.Soon, the crowd began
Henry’s POVThe inauguration grounds had never looked this alive before.Thousands of wolves filled the massive crescent arena.Silver banners carrying Saleen’s crest hung from every stone pillar, and the entire place reeked of power. And standing there among the crowd, all I could feel was dread. My gaze swept across the arena again, scanning every entrance for what had to be the hundredth time.Yet, there was no sign of Damion.Beside me, Alpha Shawn cursed under his breath while Alpha Eddy paced impatiently behind the hidden corridor where we stood concealed.“He should’ve been here already,” Eddy snapped quietly, dragging both hands through his hair.I clenched my jaw harder. We were supposed to meet last night.Practice the formation. Test our combined strength. Figure out how to strike Saleen before she overwhelmed us.But Damion never came.Worse, nobody could find him.And what annoyed me the most was that without him, our chances had dropped terribly.Three Alphas against Sal
Damion’s POVThe second Henry walked out of the room, silence settled heavily around me.My gaze shifted back to Elara immediately. She still looked pale and weaker than I had ever seen her before, until she moved. Her fingers twitched and then her head shifted weakly against the pillow.A slow breath escaped my lips."Finally," I said, moving closer to her, masking every dark thought underneath my concern.“Elara?”My voice softened carefully as I crouched beside her bed.Her lashes fluttered weakly before her eyes slowly opened. Exhaustion clouded them instantly. She looked drained and fragile.“Damion,” her voice came out hoarse.I quickly reached for the glass of water beside her, supporting her carefully as she drank.“You shouldn’t move yet,” I murmured gently. “You almost died.”A faint frown crossed her face as memories slowly returned to her.“The attack…” she whispered.“It’s handled for now,” I lied smoothly. “You need to focus on recovering.”Her eyes searched mine weakly.
Elara, being the currently strongest wolf, operated in three major powers and one minor power, making her almost as strong as Saleen. There had been speculations that she might be stronger than her, but that hadn't been confirmed yet, and we didn't want to take chances. "So to get at least 8 major powers would take 3-4 four Alpha's coming together to defeat Saleen with 3 major powers and 4 minor powers."Damion continued, interrupting my thoughts.I nodded, as I made the calculations. It was pretty simple."And to balance out, we must make sure there are excess powers, for instance, a minor or 2 minor powers included, that way we wouldn't be unfortunate."I chipped in."Exactly, Elara, you and I would have made that perfect match, but it seemed Saleen wants to play a fast game."Damion said. Now his pacing increased, I could tell he was already wallowing in thoughts of the way forward. "Since it required 3-4 Alphas to knock her down, why didn't the other Alphas do that in the past?
Henry's POV I learnt of Elara's sickness from one of my palace guards I'd instructed to keep a close eye on her. After we left soire, and equally central pole, I needed something that would remind me of the moments I once shared with her.The moments I shared with the only woman my heart currently beat for.And to satisfy that, I'd instructed one of my guards to keep an eye on her and to report whatever was going on with her to me.I didn't mean to be stuck, don't get me wrong, all I wanted was to feel closer to the woman I love.As soon as I heard that she fell sick, I abandoned everything I was doing and came to the moon shield to see her.I walked into the very lit room, my shoulders sagging with the weights of all that was happening. I couldn't bear the thought of losing her, seeing how many wolves we lost recently, my mind was literally hitting hard against my chest.I stepped into the room, Alpha Damion was seated beside her, hands on the quads, eyes on Elara who laid helpless
Damion’s POVThe night didn’t end there, it actually lingered. And somewhere in between the silence of the corridors and the echo of my own footsteps, I knew that exactly what I wanted was about to begin. I stood by the window in my chamber, fingers resting against the cold marble, my gaze lost in the darkness that swallowed the pack house, and a faint smirk tugged at my lips.“Too late for that,” I muttered under my breath.Because what had been done had been done perfectly. The poison wasn’t meant to kill her.I wasn’t a fool to ever want to kill her.At least her kids needed her alive, all I wanted was her powers. The poision I had earlier put in her meal was to weaken her. To make her unable to use the power even though she possessed it.That way, she'd be convinced to lend it to me, so I'd fight for the entire werewolves at the inauguration. And when I found out that it was already working, my joy knew no bound.A sharp knock came at my door.My lips curled slowly, expecting w
Chrysantha’s POVThe forge smelled of iron and smoke and old bargains.I liked places like this. They were honest in a way courts never were. Metal did not pretend. Weapons did not lie. They either cut, or they failed.Alpha Daryl stood across the long stone table from me, broad-shouldered and watc
Henry's POV A knock came very early the next morning as I was fastening my vambrace.Th sharp, hurried tap on the door immediately put every nerve in my body on alert. "Enter", I called out.My guards stepped in, bowed stiffly, then straightened with visible unease. "Your majesty...Luna Chrysanth
Henry's POV I should've walked away.I should've just dismissed this girl...Zara. But the moment I saw her, something in my chest pulled like a thread being yanked tight. So here we were, right in the woods and moving towards the ridge that lay ahead. For a heartbeat, the very moment I saw her, I
Elara's POV It took me almost thirty minutes to dress up, tie a scarf over my hair and come outside. The courtyard was buzzing with shouts, hammering, and carts rolling over the pebble pathway. The pack soldiers were training, and the barracks were being reinforced. They were all trying yet I sens
