登入Amelia's POV…
The banquet had already started but I was still hiding. Some pack members were still outside, and I didn't want to risk them seeing me. I thought I would have to wait for eternity or maybe still… not get to see everything. But then… everyone started rushing into the hall. I was confused. What was happening? ‘If only we can just walk in boldly and see what's happened’ Nyx said. ‘You know we can't’ “What's going on?" Someone asked as they ran in group. “Alpha wants to dance," another person answered. “With whom?" I asked myself. I waited till they had all gone inside and snuck to the nearest window of the hall. It was pretty high so I had to stack two benches so I could see clearly. I peeped inside, not letting my entire face come into the light. Someone could catch me. "He wants to dance with… Victoria?” I muttered. I watched in disbelief as he stepped down from his Alpha throne and went towards Victoria, where she was seated at the dinner table and held out his right hand for her. I gasped when she took his hand, smiling. My heart broke when I saw that. The way he held her waist when they danced and how her hands were on his shoulders crushed me. A tear slipped from my eyes and ran down my cheeks. Nyx let out a whimper. More tears streamed down my cheeks as I closed my eyes and the pain of his actions ruptured something inside me. Was that why he didn't want me to come? Because he wanted to accept Victoria? Because he wasn't proud of my rank? “Who's there?" I jerked immediately and lost balance and fell over, hitting the ground with so much face. “Aishh," I winced in pain. I didn't know whether it was from what I saw or from the fall. How many more times do I need to fall today for Colton? My hands quickly flew to my stomach and I held it protectively. I stood up immediately. Someone with a torch was coming my way. I didn't want anyone to see me. I tried to run, but I had hurt my ankle. I was leaping and each step I took worsened it. I shifted and Nyx healed it and she trotted away. *********** It was five minutes past two in the morning, when the door of the room creaked open. I was back at the servant's quarters, where I was earlier. I couldn't sleep a wink, not when the memory of Colton and Victoria haunted me. I sat up when I saw him. He looked exhausted and tired and his shirt was a mess. “You're awake," he said. He sounded surprised like he was expecting me to be asleep. I just nodded. "How was the banquet?” I asked. "Where were you?” He asked, ignoring my earlier question. I blinked as I thought of excuses and lies to come up with. Ones that wouldn't implicate me. "I… I was…” "I don't need you stuttering. I asked a simple question," he paused. “Where were you?" “I was feeling sick and and I wanted to go for a run," “Don't lie to me. Runa told me everything. You don't jump out through the window if you only wanted to go for a run,” I was silent and that seemed to infuriate. “I'm talking to you, Amelia. Where did you go?" I shuddered at his reaction, but I didn't want to be weak, not in the moment. “Are you asking because you are concerned or because you didn't want me to be in a certain place?" I didn't know where I got the guts to answer him with a question? He took in a sharp breath and approached me, his huge body towering over mine. That made me lower my gaze and move back a little. “I'm your Alpha and I have every right to know where you went," “I told you already,” I said, my tone not as harsh as before. "I went for a run,” He remained silent and looked me over, skeptically, not knowing whether to believe me or not. "Then why did you have to jump? You could have just told Runa that you were feeling sick,” "She didn't want to let me go out. She said you gave her orders not to let me go anywhere. That I should stay up here, in the room,” “I mean, I said that. I gave her those orders but if you had given her your reason, I'm sure she would have obliged," "Really? What am I exactly to you that you had to send someone to come and watch me… no… actually, guard me and keep me locked up," I paused. “Do you realize that no one is going to regard me if you keep doing this," “What am I doing?" He asked. I looked at him like he had grown two heads. “You know what… it's fine. But I do have one question,” There was silence. "Why didn't you want me to attend that banquet?” He sighed. "Are we back at this again?” "I just want to know. I'm really curious. Why?” He didn't say anything. He looked away and scratched the back of his head. I scoffed. “What am I to you Colton…” "Alpha,” he growled. I was surprised at his sudden growling. Why was he acting this way. I would never call him that, even if it meant not calling his name. Then I'd gladly do that. “What woman calls her mate by his title? Why are acting this way?" I paused. "Is it because her?" “Victoria has nothing to do with this," “You call her by her name, but you want me to call you Alpha in out private moments?" “I've said what I said," he said dismissively. “I don't want this topic to brought up ever again," he said in a tone of finality. He turned around to go but I quickly grabbed his hands. “Before you go, can you answer this?" He wanted to remove his hand from my hold but I held on tighter. “Please," “What is it?" “Do you love me?" I blurted out.Amelia's POV…My whole body was aching really badly as I stretched on the mat on the floor. I looked around the dungeon. It looked like a torturing ground. The metallic smell of blood still lingered. The walls had blood stains on them and everywhere was very cold. Not the usual type of cold, but cold in a way that signified danger. I tapped Jaxen who was still sleeping next to me. “Jaxen, it's morning," I said, while shaking her. “Hmm," she groaned as she sat up. “What do you think they're going to do to us?" I asked her. She shook her head. “I have no idea. But one thing is clear, we may not be making it out alive," I shuddered. The thought of dying frightened me. “Well well well," My head snapped up to the metal door as soon as I heard that voice. It was so familiar. Jaxen and I quickly stood up. Last night, we were spared from being branded with a red hot iron. Actually, not really spared. It was because an argument broke out between them. Some said they shouldn't ha
Amelia's POV…I was standing at a crossroads. I didn't know which one Jaxen had taken. Darkness was already covering everywhere and it was getting really late. I stood there for some minutes, contemplating between going back or to pick one path. ‘It’s too late to go back now,’ Nyx said. I couldn't agree more. I took the road on the left. It looked like a path Jaxen would have followed. I kept walking, not having the least idea of where I was going. My legs were beginning to hurt so I sat by the root of a tree. I had changed my mind. I wasn't going to follow her anymore. Once I'm done resting, I'd go back. It was foolish of me to have come out in the first place. I sat for a few minutes still trying to get my strength back. Since I got pregnant, just walking a few distances felt like a hike. Winds started blowing and I knew it was about to rain. I stood up, about to head back. I couldn't see anything. Everywhere was pitch black, except for the light from the moon.I started w
Colton's POV…I've been having dreams every night. Bad dreams and they're always the same. I'd see Amelia alone in a lonely house. She looked scared. But then, I saw myself in my dream, entering the house and trying to hug her. But she pushed me away and screamed at me. She ran out of the house and before I could run after her, her body fell limp in front of me. I had the same dream again. I was breathing heavily with trickles of sweat running down my face. The room suddenly felt hot. I reached for the bedside table and grabbed my phone. 1:28am. I groaned. I still had to sleep for four hours before morning. I was frightened to go back to sleep. I couldn't bear to have such a dream again.I stood up and walked towards the window. I sighed. “I'm sorry Amelia. Please come back," I hated myself for everything I had done to her. I was the reason she left. No reasonable mate would treat his woman like that. I wasn't proud of her rank. I was looking for more, but ended up losing e
Victoria's POV…I was having a bath with petal scented water. The maids had already prepared it for me. I finished having my bath and came out of the bathroom, and came into my room. Three maids were there, waiting for me. I sat down on a chair in front of the mirror while they got me ready. I wasn't going to meet Colton tonight. I planned on giving him some time, until he misses me, then when I go to him, he won't be able to resist me. “Here, my lady," one of them said, handing me a blue night gown. It had flower design on it. “Uhh," I started. I wasn't really a fan of flowers, but… oh well. I guess I'll have to put up with it. “You look very beautiful,” they said, after helping me with the gown. "Of course I am,” I said. I did a little twirl as I admired myself in the mirror. Who knew this gown was going to look so pretty on me?"Luna looked so gorgeous the night we dolled her up for Alpha,” I paused and looked at them. "She looked like an Alpha king's daughter,” one of th
Victoria's POV…I admired myself in front of the mirror. I smiled back at myself at how pretty I looked. My lips were a bright red, thanks to my lipstick and a light blush was on my cheeks. My thoughts drifted back to Colton. He's been acting differently since that common wolf left. I haven't even seen him for a few days now. So, I was getting ready to go meet him in his office. I wanted to look drop dead gorgeous so he'll be impressed. I raised my phone to take a picture and a video of myself but just then, there was noise coming from outside. I groaned. “It just had to be now," I waited for the noise to subside, but it was only getting worse. Sighing, I dropped my phone at the counter and moved towards my window to see what was causing the noise. Armed men were patrolling in lines. I frowned. "What are they doing?”Then I realised. "Uhh,” I groaned. "I wonder why he's so worried about her? She left on her own and that clearly means she doesn't want him,”I was angry. When I
Amelia's POV…I stared at Jaxen. “Why do you say that?" She just smiled softly. “She lost her family a very long time ago," I gasped. “What happened to them?" She sighed. “Her pack was attacked one day and her mate tried to defend their family but he was killed and the entire pack was forced into captivity after they killed their Alpha," “What?" I murmured. Why hadn't I heard about this before?"She tried to escape from the pack with her children. They were twins actually,” she looked at me knowingly. My eyes widened. Was that why she had that longing in her eyes yesterday?“She was caught and the new ruthless Alpha sent her away from the pack, holding her children back. Years later, Alpha Silas conquered the Pack. Unfortunately…” her eyes fell. "Her children were not found in the pack,”"Where were they?” I asked stupidly. "No one knows. And since then, she's been looking for them. It's the reason she always embarks on long and distant journeys. She hopes to find them one day
Amelia's POV… The next day… The pack house was filled with activities. Everyone was getting ready for the banquet tonight. The atmosphere was so jovial, but I wasn't. I was inside one of the rooms in the pack store. ‘Why doesn't he want us to go?’ Nyx asked. ‘I don't know that. He clearly d
Amelia's POV… My hands lay over my stomach protectively. I hadn't been invoiced with any other person, so how come… or was the pregnant test wrong? A chilling breeze filled the cottage and made a chill run down my spine. The excitement I felt earlier that day when I saw the pregnancy result had
Amelia's POV… I'm pregnant? I stared down at the two pink lines of the pregnancy test. "I'm really pregnant," I muttered with a smile, a ray of joy leaping in my heart. After three long, agonizing years of whispered prayers and medicinal teas, I was finally carrying his child. My heart hamm
Amelia's POV… I stood by the window looking out. Pack members were leaving the pack house and moving towards the banquet hall. The excitement was all over their faces as they chatted along the way.
