Lucia woke up with a violent gasp.

Her heart pounded heavily against her ribs, and her fingers clawed desperately at the sheets. For a brief moment she couldn’t tell if she was alive or still trapped in the darkness that had swallowed her last. Her vision was blurry, with weird shapes bending and twisting in front of her like shadows underwater. She jerked upright, ready to defend herself…but then paused.

She wasn’t in Nightshade.

She wasn’t even in a forest.

She was in a room…A clean, spacious, and surprisingly luxurious room with brilliantly polished floors, a table set with water and fruit, and curtains drawn just enough for sunlight to slip in. It was too neat, too calm, and too composed to be Nightshade…Not when Draco was in charge.

Her confusion gradually began to make way for fear and uncertainty. This wasn’t her pack. This wasn’t anywhere she recognized. She remembered…

The breath completely left Elena’s lungs in a harsh, broken exhale. She staggered as if the seer had pushed her, and her entire body began trembling.Pregnant? She shook her head wildly. “No…no, that’s not… I’m not…”Damon’s eyes were locked on her the whole time, wide, stunned, and searching her face for answers she didn’t have.“Elena,” he whispered softly, “is this true?”Her lips parted, but no words came out. Her hands slowly, and unconsciously went to her stomach, and her pulse thundered loudly in her ears. Everything felt unreal…like the world had fallen off its axis. The seer made no move to pull away.“There is life,” she said simply. “I can feel it. You are carrying a child.”Mara choked on her drink and dropped the cup. Pascal’s jaw hit the ground, and Jason stared as if he had been struck speechless.Elena felt her knees weaken. The world spun around her, and her voice returned as a broken whisper.“That’s… impossible.”But the

The drive stretched on for hours, constantly taking them deeper and deeper into terrain that surely had not seen a human footstep in decades. The forest thickened until the trees formed walls and the sky vanished behind interlocking branches, and even the air felt different and older…heavy, untouched, carrying the scent of a quiet that felt almost sacred.Pascal drove at ease, humming, pointing out random details as if they were on a sightseeing trip and not fugitives fleeing two different enemies. The rest remained completely silent, except for Mara who was yapping away like a disgruntled teenager.“I swear, Pascal, if this place you’re taking us to doesn’t at least have something soft to sit on, I’ll cry. My back feels like I’ve been sleeping on gravel for a week. Damon, next time we’re booking a VIP hotel suite even if we’re running for our lives. And Jason, stop pretending you’re asleep…I know you heard me say I saw a snake earlier and you didn’t even react. Wha

It was a funny sight to behold when the VORTEX strike team staggered inside their underground base. Some were limping, others were supporting one another, and all of them looked as if they had crawled out of hell.Elias was in the center of the operations hall, patiently listening to a few technicians with a blank look on his face. He seemed calm and surprisingly too silent…Everyone knew that was the most dangerous version of him.The commander of the failed operation approached slowly and cautiously, looking tattered in his badly torn uniform.“Sir… we failed.”The words hung in the air for a while like a death sentence.Elias didn’t move. “Explain,” he said slowly. The commander looked as if he wanted to shrink to the size of a pebble and disappear into thin air.“We were ambushed, sir. By more wolves than we had anticipated. There were at least eight of them, and then there were another four that did not belong to the Nightshade pack…these were rogue c

The truck rattled violently as Pascal swerved around a pothole that looked big enough to swallow a small child. Everyone jerked forward, grabbing onto anything within reach to steady themselves. Mara shrieked, Elena cursed under her breath, Damon braced himself, and Jason held to the seat as if the truck might try to bite him. The four rogues didn't even move, and Pascal looked annoyingly thrilled with himself, not even hearing Damon’s question. Mara had to chip in loudly…as usual. “Okay, okay, okay, you need to explain yourself right now. Where the hell did you come from? Last time we spoke, you said you were done with this madness and going off to look for ‘adventure’ and ‘fate’ and ‘a mysterious destiny’ or whatever dramatic nonsense you said. So WHY are you here?!” Pascal slapped the steering wheel. “Wow, dramatic nonsense? Already attacking my poetic soul.” “Pascal, answer the damn question,” Damon snarled at him.

A massive black vehicle came storming down the road toward them, bigger than the others…heavily armored, reinforced, and carrying the VORTEX insignia in large, bright lettering.Jason screamed, pointing. “THAT THING ISN’T STOPPING!”And it wasn’t…It was accelerating the whole time, straight towards all of them.VORTEX agents turned in confusion.Draco’s squad swore and scrambled.Damon’s eyes widened. “MOVE!”But there was no time. The truck was almost on them.Elena didn't know what to make of the situation. “What the hell is happening…?”The VORTEX commander yelled, “WHO GAVE THAT ORDER? STAND DOWN! STAND…”The armored monster of a truck did not stand down.It came harder and faster, utterly unstoppable until slammed into the surviving VORTEX van with devastating force, sending it tumbling and scattering their soldiers in different directions.Damon grabbed Elena’s arm and dragged her back as debris flew across the road. Then the
