{Lyra}

No matter how much I tried to occupy my mind with other things, I still couldn’t get the words out of my head.

“The ring is the key to everything.” I muttered to myself.

It rang through my head like a bell long after Dominic led me into the dining hall. Odessa sat at the far end of the table, bundled in a thick sweater, while Isaac was busy showing her something on his phone, and for a half-second, my heart clenched. I saw flashes of her face, with those glowing green eyes from the dream that clung to my skin like cold sweat.

“It’s not real,” I told myself fiercely. “It was just a dream. She’s fine.”

Odessa laughed at something Isaac said, tossing her wet hair over her shoulder. She seemed completely normal and not at all possessed by evil.

Still, it took everything I had not to stare too long.

Dominic vanished sometime after dinner, and I was left fiddling with my spoon and pretending to care about dessert.

I wanted, more than anything, to go back to the garden. But then I re

{Lyra}The morning sunlight was too cheery for how sick my stomach felt. For a minute, I just lay there, tangled in the cool sheets for a good twenty minutes, staring at the ceiling, and feeling... weird. Not bad, not good, just weird.Varen’s text last night kept looping in my brain. I didn’t know what he was planning to pull to get Dominic out of the house, but knowing Varen, it would be messy.Still, the day started off normal enough. Over breakfast, Isaac scarfed down toast while Odessa talked about how she wanted to start painting again. My heart twisted when she smiled. She looked so normal and un-possessed.Dominic, on the other hand, didn’t say much. After breakfast, Isaac bolted for school, Odessa floated off to her room to hunt for old paintbrushes, and Dominic muttered something about needing to work and disappeared into his study, leaving me with the world's longest waiting game.I wandered onto the terrace, soaking up the weak sun, while scrolling mindlessly through my ph

{Dominic}The tires screamed as I whipped the car down the road, with one hand clenched around the wheel, the other gripped my phone so tight it might’ve cracked. Mace’s message flashed on the screen again—an SOS and her live location pinned deep inside the forest.Mace didn’t panic easily. She was easily one of my toughest Deltas, a born fighter with nerves wired out of iron. For her to send a distress call, then something had to be bad. Real bad.I hit Ryker’s contact and put him on speaker.“Alpha?” he answered in a rough voice, like he hadn’t slept.“Mace sent an SOS. I'm heading to her now. I’ll forward her location to you. Get your ass there, fast.”“Shit. On my way,” Ryker barked.I killed the call and floored it. Trees blurred past as I tore toward the edge of the woods. The second I hit the border, I slammed the brakes, killing the engine mid-skid. Gravel and dirt sprayed out behind me.From her location, she was still moving, but barely.I shoved the car door open, kicking i

{Dominic}By the time I reached Allen’s tower, the corpse in my arms had started to cool. I didn’t know how much time had passed, but I knew better than to waste another precious time rushing up the stairs of the tower.I bent my knees low, feeling my muscles coil, and pushed off the ground with everything I had. Air tore past my ears as I shot up, one hand outstretched, while the other held the corpse close to my chest. My claws scraped against the rough stone until I caught a handhold. My fingers dug deep into the stone, peeling chunks off with every slight movement. I pulled myself upward in short jumps and without looking down. When the open window finally came into reach, I launched myself through it, landing hard enough to make the old wood floor groan.Allen was hunched over a crooked little altar made of black iron and worn oak, and was arranging a circle of bones, candles that bled smoke, and shimmering crystals. Before I could say a word, Allen said, without even looking at

{Lyra}“The attempt on your life during you and Dominic’s wedding dance wasn’t as simple as you think.” Regina said to me.A part of me had wanted to forget that night so much that it actually did. But as Regina’s words landed, that night came rushing back into my head.“W—What… What are you trying to say?”She took a deep breath and tried to keep her eyes level, but I could see how they wavered ever so slightly. “It was me.”“You?”“Me and my brother actually.” she corrected. “You see Corvin didn’t want the Bloodhound name to die out all because of some…” she squeezed her mouth shut and gestured to me, “...well, you. And neither did I. I couldn’t understand why Dominic would chose you over the countless number of powerful candidates, and so I joined him and we created the resistance, a small number of wolves who believed you have no right to be our Luna.”“You what?” I croaked, my voice trembling slightly.“We didn’t expect it to go that far. We just... wanted you to give up and run

{Lyra}I made sure to keep my distance from the statue, but the memory of my dream kept replaying in my head. I fought hard to shove it deep inside of me, and keep the voices out of my head. Dreams were just dreams, I couldn’t take the words of a possessed Odessa to heart. For all I know, it could be a trap.Regina’s voice snapped me back to reality. “Sit, and listen carefully.” She motioned to the fountain, and I hesitated, half-glancing at the witch statue, then forced my feet to move. I sat down on the cool stone rim of the fountain, just as Regina began.“Listen closely, Evangeline.” I turned to her, dragging my attention away from the statue’s beckoning hand. “The Luna Trials aren’t about strength or speed, at least not entirely,” she began, pacing in a slow circle around me. “They’re about enduranc, loyalty. And above all… desire.”She stopped in front of me, and her eyes locked on mine. “You have to want your place beside Dominic more than you want to even breathe.”I felt a

{Dominic}Two whole days. That’s how long it took for Mace’s condition to turn from bad to worse.I and Ryker managed to drag her to Allen’s tower, before the corruption started digging its claws deeper into her. She breathed heavily in gasps, and her body jerked every now and again as if some invisible hand was tearing her apart from the inside. The gash across her stomach had darkened, veins spreading outwards from the wound like black lightning beneath her skin. Her wolf was fighting hard, but it was losing. And it looked far too familiar. I felt like i was looking at Odessa all over again.I felt guilty that I let this happen, watching as Allen adjusted the silver restraints around Mace’s wrists. Her body bucked against them with unnatural strength.“She’s still in there,” I growled under my breath.“Which means there’s still time.” Allen shot me a look as he began gathering supplies. “But not much. Without the pure essence of the magic, I can’t brew a cure, only slow it down.”“H

{Lyra}The moon had turned blood red, like a hauntingly beautiful painting hanging in the dark sky. It cast everything in a coppery glow, turning the trees into tall, twisted shadows as we made our way through the forest. The Sacred Grove; that’s what Regina called it. It was hidden in the oldest part of Crownshaven’s woods, tucked so deep that even the bravest wolves avoided it out of instinct.“This is a place where the veil between spirit and flesh thins,” Regina said, brushing her fingers along the bark of a knotted tree. “What you feel here is both real, and not.”I felt the shift in spiritual energy the second we crossed the invisible threshold. And my newly awakened wolf suddenly became restless.Ahead, Elder Corvin stepped forward, with his arms spread wide. “We begin with the Trial of Heart,” he announced, then turned to face me. “Here, you shall confront both your deepest desire and your darkest fear.”From a worn leather case, Corvin withdrew a small silver bowl and a jagge

{Lyra}I stood barefoot in the clearing, staring up at the blood-red moon still hanging in the sky. The flames around altar Corvin had prepared began to flicker as I made my way to it. There wasn’t a single sound, not a birdy crying, or an insect buzzing. The forest was eerily quiet and the leaves whispered in languages my human ears couldn’t decipher, but my wolf was reacting to them. Even the ancient oak trees bent their gnarled limbs inward, curling toward the altar.I walked forward, one step after another, until my toes touched the stone. I knelt at the edge of the altar, the stone was colder than the wind, biting into my knees, and my heartt was beatign wildly. I could hear every beat echoing between my ribs like the last moments before a hunt.Suddenly, there was a humming around the altar, and a huge wave of magic surged from the ground, into the sky.The Moon Spirit rose from the altar like mist. There was no footsteps, or sound, just a shimmering light in the shape of a woma

{Dominic}“I’m sorry to disturb the council, Alpha,” the young servant said, shifting awkwardly at the door of the Elder’s chamber. “What is it?” I asked, sharper than I intended.“It’s your mother, Alpha. She collapsed and was rushed to the hospital. Lady Odessa is with her.”For a second, I stopped breathing. I wasn’t sure what I felt; despite everything, despite her betrayal and her alliance with Corvin, she was still my mother.“I must leave now,” I turned, ready to walk out.“We are not finished with this meeting,” Corvin barked from his seat, his voice was as arrogant as ever.I stopped, just shy of the door. “Are you out of your mind? That’s your sister.” I fought to stop myself from yelling. “Have you no love in your heart?”Corvin didn’t flinch. “Everything I do, I do for the good of this pack. That is what a true leader does.”I let out a bitter scoff and turned toward him. “Then may the Moon Goddess bless this pack, because if you're the model of what a true leader is mean

{Lyra}Panic surged through me as the sterile scent of disinfectant clawed up my nose, only adding to the nausea that settled in my stomach. My heart shook in my chest like it wanted out, and my limbs felt like water. I tried to sit up, but the moment I soved, the nurse’s sharp gaze caught me. “Stay still, sweetheart," she said, her voice like sugar-coated poison. “I’ll be right back.”Before I could move again, thick leather restraints snapped around my wrists and ankles as the nurse restricted me to the bed. I wriggled uselessly, and my wolf felt sluggish and angry, but still too weak to do anything. The sedatives they’d pumped into me earlier still kept her at bay, and all I could do was stare at the door as it closed behind the nurse.“I have to get out of here,” I whispered to no one in particular. My voice was hoarse, and my eyes darted around the room for a way out. The nurse definitely knew who I was; my face had been splashed across every single news channel as the wife of

{Dominic}It had been a pretty long while since I stepped through the polished glass doors of NovaCore. The familiar scent of cedarwood polish, cold steel, and faint traces of coffee welcomed me as I walked in.The moment my boots hit the marble floors, heads had already begun to turn. It was times like these that I honestly didn’t need to announce myself; my presence kind of did that on its own. Every wolf in that lobby straightened their spine, and their eyes widened like they’d seen a ghost. I caught the words “Alpha” and “Founder” more times than I could count as I made my way to the elevators. Before I even made it, a young woman—Cynthia, if I remembered correctly—scrambled up from behind the receptionist desk, and quickly approached me.“Alpha, sir, welcome back. CEO Ryker is in his office. I’ll just—” she reached for the desk phone to inform him of my arrival.“No need,” I said flatly, brushing past her.She froze mid-dial as I stalked past the glossy walls of the executive wi

  • The Alpha's Fated Desire   CHAPTER SIXTY-EIGHT

{Dominic}Mace’s screams had stopped being human a long time ago. The sound of her voice ripped through Allen’s tower like she was dying, and her body kept jerking so hard that it rattled the silver chains clamped around her wrists and ankles. The corruption had almost taken her, that much was easy to tell. My eyes followed the black veins that moved from the gash across her stomach, reaching all the way to her collarbone, to her arms, and even her jaw. Half her face looked like it was covered in a spiderweb of dark veins. She didn’t even smell like herself anymore; the scent of her wolf had been buried beneath the smell of blood and decay. Mace was strong, I could still sense the fight inside of her, but she was fading away right before my eyes.I tore my gaze away from her and turned to Allen, who stood beside his bubbling cauldron with his sleeves rolled up, and eyes completely focused on what he was doing.“Are you sure this will work?” I asked.Allen didn’t so much as spare me a

{Lyra}The iron door groaned open, and the stench of rot and mildew gave way to fresher air, mixed faintly with pine and dust. My eyes squinted against the sudden shift in light as Varen dragged me up the narrow staircase. My knees buckled the moment we reached the top step, but I didn’t dare fall. I stumbled forward, feeling the unexpected warmth of hardwood beneath my feet. For a moment, my brain refused to process what I was seeing. The chipped hallway mirror, the floral wallpaper faded by time, the scuff mark on the left panel of the stair rail… I knew this place. My throat closed. “This is… my house.”Varen didn’t look at me as he kept walking. “Surprised?” his tone dripped with mockery. I turned in a slow circle, taking everything in. To think there was a freaking cellar under the very safehouse I and Isaac had been living in all that time.“How long has it been there?” I whispered softly.“Does it matter?” he said, stopping in his tracks and turning to look at me. “You’re out

  • The Alpha's Fated Desire   CHAPTER SIXTY-SIX

{Lyra}My bare legs ached from the cold, rough concrete. My wrists were free, but what did that even matter when my legs were bolted to the wall like some wild dog. I shifted slightly, dragging the chains with me, clinking like mocking bells. The cellar stank of mildew, dried blood, and damp rot. Somewhere above, water dripped steadily, echoing down the stairwell like a ticking clock, slowly driving me mad.I pulled at the shackles again with a sigh. Varen wasn’t stupid; he knew the moment I tried to break free and run, he’d catch me before I even made it past the first step. So he gave me the illusion of freedom, just enough to remind me I had none.My ankles burned from the chafing iron, and the wall behind me was stained with scratches where I’d tried clawing my way out on the first night, or maybe it was the third. I’d stopped counting after the nausea set in from lack of food.I leaned my head back against the wall and closed my eyes. My wolf whimpered in the back of my mind, cu

{Dominic}The creature collapsed with a sickening crunch, and its brittle limbs broke apart like scorched paper. I stood over it, with my chest heaving, and blood dripping from my claw. My breath still came in short gasps, and I could still taste the acrid magic that had spilled from Sorren’s body. There it was—the vial.It had rolled just a few inches from his fingers, faintly glowing with a sick green glow. I crouched slowly, even with trembling hand, and picked it up. The essence inside sloshed dangerously.“Hopefully, this is enough to save Mace,” I muttered and slipped it into the pouch at my hip, sealing the flap shut.Only then did I notice the taste of blood, and the pain hit me all at once.My legs buckled, and I slammed my palm into the stone wall to steady myself. The gash in my side throbbed with every single breath. My arm felt limp, and my shoulder was probably dislocated. My ribs ached like they’d caved in. And still, I forced one foot in front of the other.“Get back t

  • The Alpha's Fated Desire   CHAPTER SIXTY-FOUR

{Dominic}The passage narrowed the farther I went, until, being in my full wolf form, I had to lower my head and turn my shoulders slightly just to move forward. It finally became too narrow to remain in my full wolf form, so I shifted into my Lycan form. Each time I took a breath, the stench of rot and burned flesh fused into one putrid odor. The pressure around the tomb had changed as well. It felt strong and heavier. It seemed the magic had condensed into the air and became so thick I could practically taste it on my tongue.I finally reached an opening, and the tunnel gave way to a wide, but hollow cavern where the only source of light was the veins of sickly green light running through the stone walls. There were bones littered on the ground, broken and scattered. From the looks of the skulls, femurs, and ribs snapped in half and somewhat gnawed on, I could only imagine the horrors that went on there.A low scrape echoed through the chamber, and I lifted my head to see a figure c

{Dominic}Ryker didn’t bother speaking to me as we walked. My legs barely worked, but somehow I kept moving. The forest disappeared behind us as we left the Grove behind, and the moon seemed to follow us out.I kept looking over my shoulder, half-expecting the wind to shift and Evangeline to be standing there, barefoot in the moonlight, with that spark in her eyes and her usual smirk. But she wasn’t there.I wanted to believe that she wasn’t gone, that she was somehow still out there. But if that was true, then how was I supposed to find her? There was no scent, no trace, no trail to follow—nothing but complete and utter silence. And then there was Mace… “Moon goddess help me.” She was slipping deeper into the darkness that hadcorrupted her, and it was my job to find the source of that corruption. So how the fuck was I supposed to do both? How do you choose between saving a loyal Delta, and chasing a ghost?By the time we arrived at the Elder’s Villa, Corvin’s voice was the first th
