Selene pov

I opened my eyes, clutching my chest, my breath coming in sharp, panicked gasps.

No… no, this can’t be happening.

My vision blurred, but I felt the shift happening in me before I could stop it. My brown irises turned into pure gold …it was the mark of a wolf sensing her mate for the first time.

The scent hit me next, it was sharp and overwhelming, thick with power and heat.

I could feel him.

Even from this distance, the bond snapped into place like a chain around my neck. His scent clung to the air …it was, dominant, unmistakably powerful. It was the most beautiful thing I had ever inhaled.

My mate.

Today was my eighteenth birthday …the day I have been dreading all my life. The year when every wolf comes of age, when the mate bond awakens and the moon goddess chooses for you.

For most, it’s a blessing.

But for someone like me …someone who had survived alone since I was eight, the idea of being shackled to anyone, even by the Moon Goddess herself, was the same as death.

And I wouldn’t let that happen.

I was still lost in thought, struggling to steady my breath, when Keisha burst into the room.

“Holy shit…” she whispered, eyes widening as she took one look at me. Her red curls clung to her damp face, wild from running. Her green eyes …one that always seemed to hold concern just for me ,was fixed on my glowing gold irises.

“Is it happening?” she asked, with a low voice.

I couldn’t answer …I just nodded, clutching my chest as my breathing turned ragged again. My wolf was stirring beneath my skin, pacing, growling, snarling to break free. She could feel him. Our mate. And she was ready to tear down the walls to get to him.

Keisha dropped to her knees in front of me and gently held my face, grounding me with her touch.

“Breathe, Selene. I need you to be calm and listen to me, okay?”

I tried. Goddess, I tried. But the bond had snapped tight around my ribcage like a noose. I was suffocating in it.

“Keisha…” I managed to choke out.

Her expression darkened. “Our scouts just returned. The Northern Pack army is marching this way …in numbers. It’s Blackthorn.”

My blood ran cold.

“That can’t mean anything good,” she continued. “We need to move. Now.”

I nodded quickly, panic tightening every muscle in my body. “Yes… I can feel him. He’s coming closer. Please, Keisha. Let’s go. Now.”

We shifted into our wolves and tore through the forest, heading east faster than we’d ever run before.

If we could just cross the border, we could lose them. The army. Him.

Something in my gut told me what I’d been dreading all along …he’s with them. My mate is part of that army. Part of the Northern Pack. Part of the life that destroyed me.

And I’d rather be caught dead than have any connection to Blackthorn ever again.

I pushed harder, my paws pounding the earth, lungs burning as I ignored the intoxicating scent growing stronger with every heartbeat. His scent. It wrapped around my senses, pulled at my instincts like a drug.

But I wouldn’t give in.

Keisha ran beside me, her smaller wolf just behind my flank.

“We’re close to the border!” she called through the mind-link, hope flickering between us like a spark.

But before I could respond, I heard thudding paws. Dozens of them. closing in on us.

“Shit,” I growled, skidding slightly on the forest floor. They’d caught up.

And now his scent was undeniable. It hit me like a tidal wave, and my wolf howled from within, begging to turn around, to find him, to submit.

But I refused.

I kept running, breath ragged, my heart pounding like a war drum …until something slammed into me from the side, knocking the air clean out of my lungs.

“It’s funny you thought you could run from me, little wolf.”

His voice was deep, rough with amusement …and something far darker.

Before I could gather myself, the Alpha command hit me like a thunderclap.

“Shift back to your human form Now.”

The words wrapped around my bones and bent my will without mercy.

My limbs trembled as my wolf was forced into retreat. Pain shot through me, it was brief but unbearable …and then I was naked, my long black hair falling in damp waves around me.

My eyes still glowed gold. His command had weakened my body …but not the mate bond. Not the power surging between us like a live wire.

I looked up.

And the moment I did, everything inside me broke.

Somewhere behind me, I heard Keisha struggling, snarling in her wolf form, her voice crying out through the mind-link. “We didn’t do anything! Let us go! Please…Selene’s done nothing wrong!”

But I couldn’t answer her.

Because the face in front of me had already knocked the air out of my lungs.

Kael Blackthorn.

My mate.

The very man who banished me from the pack when I was just eight.

The man who turned his back when I screamed for someone..anyone, to believe me.

Who refused to listen when I pleaded, trembling and bloodied from their cruel assaults , that I had no idea what had happened to my sister.

Who looked me in the eye with cold indifference and branded me a traitor.

Kael Blackthorn. My mate.

The same boy who exiled me… and the face behind all my nightmares.

And fate, it seemed, had a twisted sense of humor.

now, he stood before me as the Alpha of the army I tried to escape.

“So this is where you’ve been hiding, Selene,” he said, breathing out my name like a sin he fully intended to commit.

A moan slipped from my lips before I could stop it . I curled into myself, clutching my legs as the bond flared inside me, the ache to be claimed spreading like fire under my skin.

No. I refused to give in.

“Take the other one. Head back to the pack,” Kael ordered without looking at me, speaking to the tall, broad-shouldered wolf who stepped forward.

He was handsome ,silver-eyed, with a rigid jaw …and he pointedly kept his gaze off me, as if my naked body disgusted him.

He bent and reached for Keisha.

“Let her go, you bastard!” I snarled. “Leave us alone!”

Kael’s gaze finally cut to mine, his lips curling in amusement .

“She’s not my problem,” he said coolly, as if Keisha were dirt under his boot.

“But you… you are. You’re my mate, Selene. And I will never be denied what is rightfully mine.”

I forced myself to my feet, trembling . “I’d rather peel the skin off my body piece by piece before I ever belong to you.”

His eyes darkened.

“I reject—”

“Finish that sentence,” he growled, stepping closer, “and you won’t like what happens next.”

He circled me like a predator, his voice low and lethal.

“You can’t reject me. Not now. Not ever. Even your body betrays you.”

“I hate you.” The words came out like venom.

Kael’s lips curled.

“Are you sure you want to be mated to a murderer?” I asked, my voice low and wicked, “Or have you already forgotten what led to my banishment all those years ago?”

  • The Alpha's Forbidden Mate   Chapter 84 When We Were Whole

Selene POV I clutched the handle of the bed, trying to mop the sweat off my face. Kael left for an important meeting earlier. If not, I had no doubt he would have been here by now. The heat came back worse today. Threatening to consume my whole being. I bit my lip hard, trying to stop my tears. Maybe I could ask for an ice bath. I forced myself to stand. Took one step toward the door. Everything turned blur, as I felt myself collapsing. —— When I opened my eyes, I was somewhere else.I was back in the place where those memories or dreams occurred. I’d been here before but something felt different this time. Everything was clearer and more solid. Sunlight filtered through trees I recognized now. The clearing. The one that kept appearing in flashes. I looked down at my hands.I was younger in this vision. This body wasn’t mine. But it was. “There you are.” I turned towards the sound of the voice. Kael walked toward me through the trees. Younger than I’d ever seen him. Mayb

  • The Alpha's Forbidden Mate   Chapter 83 Shadow essence

Sylvester pov “I did what I had to do.” “No. You did what your obsession demanded.” I shoved her back. The chair scraped against the stone floor. She was wrong. She had to be wrong. I did love Selene. Everything I’d done was for her. To be with her. To finally have what should have been mine from the beginning. “You’re going to help me whether you want to or not,” I said. “And if I refuse?” “Then I’ll make you.” I pulled out a small vial from my pocket. The liquid inside was dark red. Almost black. “Do you know what this is?” Myra’s face paled. “Shadow essence.” “From those creatures that keep crawling up from the underworld. Turns out they’re very useful when properly contained.” “You’re using underworld magic?” Her voice shook. “Do you have any idea how dangerous—” “I don’t care about danger. I care about results.” I held the vial up to the light. “This essence can force your body to obey my commands. Even if your mind refuses. Your knowledge, your power… it will all be

  • The Alpha's Forbidden Mate   Chapter 82 The Priestess

Sylvester POV The old woman sat in the chair across from me, her hands bound with silver chains. Not that she could escape anyway. The cell was warded with symbols older than any pack. Symbols I’d spent lifetimes learning. Myra. The Memory Keeper. The priestess who’d bound Selene’s powers all those years ago. And now, finally, she was mine. “You knew I would find you eventually,” I said, leaning back in my own chair. We were in the underground chamber beneath Moonveil pack house. The same place I’d kept the three Alphas that went missing. Myra lifted her head. Her eyes were cloudy with age but sharp with awareness. “Yes. I’ve been waiting for you, actually. Took you longer than I expected.” That surprised me. “You wanted me to find you?” “Want is a strong word. But I knew it was inevitable.” She shifted in her seat, the chains clinking softly. “The cycle always brings you back to this point. Always brings you back to her.” “Then you remember.” Relief flooded through

  • The Alpha's Forbidden Mate   Chapter 81 My mate

Marcus pov “I saw you,” she said finally. “In my visions. You’re there in almost all of them. Standing beside me. Protecting me. And in the ones where I survive…” She swallowed hard. “In those, you’re the reason why.” My heart stuttered. “Then why are you fighting this?” “Because in the visions where we…” She looked away. “Where we become more than friends. Those are the ones where you die instead of me. And I can’t… I won’t let that happen.” “So you’re trying to protect me by pushing me away.” “Yes.” “That’s the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard.” Her eyes snapped back to mine. “Excuse me?” “You heard me. It’s stupid. You can’t live your life based on visions that might not happen. You can’t push away everyone who cares about you just because you’re scared.” “I’m not scared.” “Yes, you are. You’re terrified. Not of dying. Of letting someone in and losing them.” She flinched like I’d struck her. “That’s not fair,” she whispered. “Neither is watching you kill yourself slowl

  • The Alpha's Forbidden Mate   Chapter 80 Hidden Bonds

Marcus POV I leaned against the wall of the training room, watching Lydia move through her meditation exercises with grace. She’d been back at Blackthorn for three weeks now, and in all that time, I’d barely managed to have a real conversation with her that didn’t involve pack business or Selene’s training. She looked thinner than when she’d arrived. Dark circles shadowed her eyes despite the healing magic she possessed. Even though it didn’t make her any less beautiful. “You’re staring again,” Lydia said without opening her eyes. “Just making sure you don’t pass out mid-meditation.” “I’m fine.” “When’s the last time you slept?” I asked, pushing off the wall and walking closer. “And I mean actually slept, not just closed your eyes for an hour.” “I sleep enough.” “That’s not an answer.” She opened one eye to glare at me. “I don’t have time for this, Marcus.” “Make time.” I stopped in front of her. “You’ve been working yourself to exhaustion training Selene, researching thos

  • The Alpha's Forbidden Mate   Chapter 79 Building Heat

Selene POV I made it halfway back to my room before my legs started feeling strange. It was almost like every step made my skin more sensitive. I paused in the hallway and leaned against the wall. Took a deep breath. Pinching my nose to ease the tension forming there . It’s fine. I’m fine. But even as I thought it, warmth started spreading up from my legs. Through my thighs. Settling low in my belly. Oh no. Not again. Not now. I’d just managed to escape from Kael in the garden. I just told him I didn’t want him in my life. And now my body was about to betray me by demanding his presence. The bond was the cruelest thing I’d ever experienced. I pushed off the wall and walked faster. If I could just get to my room, I could ride this out alone. The warmth pulsed through me . Spreading everywhere in my body.. My dress suddenly felt too tight. The fabric rubbed against my skin in ways that made me bite my lip. Keep walking. I’m almost there, I muttered wiping sweat off my brow
