Selene POV

The first scream came from outside.

I was in our chambers, reviewing evacuation lists with Maria when the sound pierced through the windows. Not a scream of fear. A scream of rage.

Maria’s head snapped up. “What was that?”

Before I could answer, more voices joined the first. The voices were angry and violent. Growing louder by the second.

Through the bond, I felt Kael’s attention shift. His concern bleeding through our connection.

Stay inside, his voice came through the mind link. Something’s happening in the courtyard.

I moved to the window, pulling back the curtain to look down.

My blood ran cold.

The courtyard was filled with people. Pack members. Dozens of them. And they were angry.

No. Not just angry.

They were furious.

“Send her out!” someone shouted.

“We want the Luna!” another voice bellowed.

“She’s brought death to our doorstep!”

Maria came to stand beside me, her face going pale as she took in the crowd below.

“Goddess,” she whispered. “What’s happening?”

The crowd

Keisha POVThe cell was dark, but not completely. A single shaft of moonlight filtered through a crack in the stone ceiling, casting pale shadows across the floor.I’d been counting. Days. Weeks. Months.I’d lost track somewhere around seventy-three days. Or was it eighty-three? Time blurred when you were trapped in the same ten-by-ten space with nothing but your thoughts and the sound of your own breathing. The door at the top of the stairs creaked open. Heavy footsteps descended. I didn’t bother looking up anymore. I knew who it was.Alpha Ryker. My mate. My captor.“You need to eat,” he said, setting a tray down on the small table. His voice was gruff. Tired. Like this whole situation exhausted him as much as it did me.“I need to leave,” I said for the thousandth time. “Please. Just let me leave.”“You know I can’t do that.”“Can’t or won’t?” I finally looked at him. He looked worse than usual. Dark circles under his eyes. His clothes rumpled. When was the last time he’d slept? “S

Selene POV Through the bond, I felt Kael slipping further. The darkness spreading faster now. Consuming him from the inside out like poison eating through his veins. “We need to get him to the healers,” I said desperately, my hands still pressed uselessly against the wound. Blood…dark, wrong blood mixed with that horrible black webbing…seeped between my fingers. “There has to be something they can do. Some way to extract the shadow essence.” But even as I said it, I knew it wasn’t true. I’d seen what shadow essence did to Myra’s body. How it corrupted and consumed until nothing human remained. I know the reason he wasn’t like that yet was because of how strong he was. I hated myself for giving Lyra a chance. I hated it so much. I was nothing but a fool clouded by emotions. “Kael, please,” I whispered. “Please don’t leave me.” His eyes fluttered open. Those green eyes I loved, now clouded with pain and something darker. I could sense death all around him. “I Love you,” he breath

Emily POV I sat in the corner of the tavern, my third ale warming in my hand. The liquid sloshed slightly as my fingers trembled, not from the alcohol but from the rage that had been simmering in my chest for months. The scar on my finger throbbed. It always did when I thought about her. Selene. The bitch who’d stolen everything from me without even trying. I pressed down on the scar, welcoming the sharp pain. Remembering the cold fury in Sylvester’s eyes as he’d held the knife to my hand. I’d spent years trying to catch Sylvester’s attention. Years training harder than anyone else, making myself invaluable to Moonveil, proving my worth over and over again. I was the perfect Luna. And he didn’t want me. But her? She’d done nothing.Just a pathetic useless shewolf. It made me want to vomit. The tavern around me was packed tonight. Pack members crammed into every available space, their voices rising as the ale flowed and their frustrations mounted. The air was thick with smoke

Marcus POV I walked down the corridor slowly, deliberately taking the long route back to my quarters. Kael and Selene needed space. And time to process everything without the Beta hovering around like some overprotective guard dog. My feet carried me past the guest wing, past the rooms where visiting pack members usually stayed. Most of them were empty now. We’d sent word to families to evacuate non-essential personnel. Get them somewhere safe before the fighting starts. But one room wasn’t empty. Lydia’s door was closed, but I could hear sounds coming from inside.. At first the sound was soft but then it got louder , it was the sound of someone crying. It sounded like it came from deep, soul-crushing pain. My hand was on the door handle before I could think better of it. “Lydia?” I called softly, pushing the door open. She was on the floor beside her bed, curled into a ball with her knees pulled up to her chest. Her hair hung in tangled waves around her face. Her body shook

Kael pov I caught her wrists in one hand, slammed them above her head against the wall, and devoured her mouth until she was gasping, trembling, hips grinding against me in frantic little circles. I ripped her shirt open. Buttons pinged off the floor like bullets. Her bra snapped under my fingers. Her breasts spilled free, nipples already peaked, begging. I bent and took one deep into my mouth, and sucked hard with my teeth scraping the sensitive tip. Her back bowed off the wall so violently her shoulders left the plaster. “Ahhhhh…Kael!” The sound cracked through the room, raw, desperate, and perfect. I pulled off just long enough to rasp against her skin, voice gravel and smoke, “Louder. Let me hear how much you need this.” I dropped to my knees, shoved her jeans and panties down in one savage yank. She was drenched, her tights were slick, and glistening with her arousal. I spread her wide with my shoulders and dragged my tongue up her slit. My eyes rolled to the back of my h
