Three days later,

“You have to get your ass out of bed eventually, Zeke.” Gus says, helping me to lower the curtains of my window.

I slump my face on the pillow, grunting. “Just leave me alone.”

“You have been here for three days.” Gus faces me, hands on his hip, lecturing me as though he was Madam Yv, though the scowl on his face did manage to intimidate me just a little. “Katherine, your cousin, Madam Yv and my mother and literally everyone are worried about you.” I stare at him, feeling like an ass.

“I know,” I mumble, “I just need some time to think.”

He bends down to the level of my bed so that our eyes meet, his are a replicate of anger. “Need I remind you, countless people are aiming for you. We aren’t protected right now, and we need you back. Come on.”
