ALEXIA
Being the only human in a werewolf city had to be the scariest thing ever but my family had nowhere else to go after the war broke out between humans and werewolves, apparently some over-bearing scientist who thought they could just have an experiment on every creature they encountered.
After capturing a werewolf they decided to carry out their so-called experiment which became the beginning of a raging war. Fortunately for my family, my father happened to be an old friend of a Beta whose life he saved and the only reason the Alpha let us stay here on his land.
So far, it hasn't been easy. I had to ignore every snarl and growl hauled at me each time I went out on the streets, they don't trust us. We knew that but since we had nowhere else to go, we just had to earn their complete impossible trust!
"Lex, have you thought about what I told you last night?" My mom asked, adjusting the pair of glasses she had on.
I pretended to be engrossed in the novel I was reading just to avoid her questions, she raised the issues about me attending the werewolf academy ever since a letter arrived which stated that since I was almost becoming part of the pack I should be enrolled into the werewolf academy, a place I would be trained and groom to be strong, shits and all. It's like they wanted to turn me into a werewolf or something.
Plus I suspected it was also a way to earn our loyalty or whatever they are after. I couldn't even bear to walk on the streets alone then how was I supposed to cope in a school full of werewolves? Who are basically animals?
"Lex!" Mom called impatiently, staring at me sternly.
I sighed, finally putting my book away. "I don't want to go!" I answered chewing on my bottom lip, it just doesn't seem right, I wished I could have a talk with the Alpha myself. Okay, that was just wishing for the impossible because I’ve never seen the scary Alpha creature people seem to speak so highly of–including Dad.
"The orders came from the Alpha. Lexi, so I'm afraid you have no say in the matter." That came from my Dad who just walked in dressed for work, he's a scientist by the way.
"What?" My eyes widened, being an American teenager this has to be the most dreadful thing i ever heard. "Everyone has the right to do whatever they want! I'm eighteen Dad, meaning I'm legally at the right age to decide what’s good and bad for me and I know schooling here is dangerous and bad news for me!" I protested.
Dad chuckled like I said something funny. "Things are pretty different here Lexi. The Alpha makes the laws and no one dares to do otherwise." his expression turned serious.
Without having set my eyes on the Alpha, I was already beyond terrified of him. Why were they oppressing people with so many rules?
"And–" Mom continued with a cheerful smile on her face. "The letter also stated that they guarantee your safety so you don't need to be worried."
"How can you trust their words? These people are basically animals!" I rolled my eyes which made both my parents glare at me.
"That's something about them, they're very loyal and tolerate no betrayal, they don't go back on their words." Dad explained and knowing I already lost the so-called battle. “And please stop referring to them as an animal, you should know better.” He added, inserting the usual sternness in his voice that gets me to behave.
"Fine, you guys won!" I agreed in a voice that seemed forced.
"Good, since Alpha already permits you, you won't have any issues getting enrolled into the school. I will speak to the school president on my way back from work, Alice?" He called, turning his attention back to Mom.
Knowing I was out of the conversation I put on my glasses and once more I pretended to be engrossed in my book while listening to their conversation.
"Where's the letter? I think I'll need it as evidence to make things easier." Dad said with a twinkle in his eyes like seriously he's happy about me going to that school? I watched as Mom's hand it over to him then he left. I was curious to know more about the letter so I leaned towards Mom.
"Is that all that the letter says?" I inquired in case there was something I needed to be worried about.
She made a face. "Why don't you go down to the store and get groceries for dinner," She responded, disregarding my question.
"Sure,” I answered somewhat dejectedly.
To say, I’m still not used to the way they looked at me, as if I was the alien among them. In their world, I supposed I was. Ignoring the discriminating looks, I tried to go into the store, distracted by my thoughts. I didn't notice I was walking right into someone and when I did in fact notice, it was too late.
“Oops—“ The words hardly left my mouth before I was shoved away, staggering backwards from the impact, until I ended up landing flat on my butt.
A dark look flashed across her face as she growled at me, terrified by her reaction, I quickly got up on my feet. She way her eyes observed mine as if searching for something, she looked intimidating as fuck! “I’m sorry.” I quickly offered an apology, hoping she will back off once she sees how sorry I was.
“You should be.” Her features relaxed, making her appear less scary. “You’re human.” Although the statement shouldn’t even be a question but somehow it was.
Still wary of her calm demeanour, I nodded. “Yes, that’s right.” At least she’s no longer making that scary animalistic sound.
“Why don’t I show you around the store?” She offered, entwining her arms with mine and spurning us around toward the entrance.
My guard went up as my suspicious rose, no one around here has been that nice around me, in fact I accept that the people here weren’t capable of being friendly even if someone hit them in the face with it. My suspicions were proved right when the girl suddenly twisted my arm, causing me to cry out from the pain.
“Next time, watch where you’re fucking going!” Shoving my face into the glass entrance door, she lets go of me and walks away.
Rubbing my arm, I blinked the tears that blurred my vision as I watched her disappear into the distance. Taking a deep breath and brushing the pain aside like I always do, I went into the store to get what I came here for.
By the time I arrived home it was pretty late, I was the last person they attended to just because I wasn’t a freaking were-human or whatever name they go by! The injustice here was driving me crazy but since the war with humans is still raging on, it happens to be the best place for us right now.
"Mom, I'm home!" I announced, stepping into the house. The house was originally given to us by the Alpha, I guess kindness pays sometimes but they would never understand as they would rather snarl in your face. My father's act of kindness happened to be what got us here in the first place, we have a house, protectio, I guess being bullied was a small price to pay.
"Well that was quick." She answered, sarcastically as I joined her in the kitchen.
“What do you think? I was the very last person they attended to just because I’m not a freaking werewolf! Are you guys certain of my safety if I go to this so-called school?” I made a face, folding my arms across my chest as I waited for a response.
"Lexi, look on the bright side, we have a roof over our heads and we are safe. What more could you possibly want?" She asked in a tired but stern tone of voice.
"Freedom!" I bit back. “And the right to walk safely on the road without fear of my life, I feel like a cage animal and all the so called Alpha—“
"That's enough! Enough!" She shouted, cutting me off with a frightened look on her face. The moment was then disrupted by a heavy pounding on the door. “One of these days, you’re going to get us killed!” She hissed, hurrying out of the kitchen to answer the door.
I tagged along with her, a bit fearful of whatever might be the cause of that knocking, perhaps Mom was right, I had indeed gone far. Two uniformed guards appeared outside the door when she opened it, they briefly looked at her before their eyes moved past her shoulders until it rested on me! It stayed and lingered.
"We are watching you!" One of them growled at me before they turned and left.
Mom turned around to glare at me, "There goes your freedom," she remarked, disappearing back into the kitchen.
Still confused about what just happened, I stood there like what the fuck?!
ALEXIA “Wow, you look hot.” Raven remarked as I emerged from my bedroom. “Tell me, are you dressed for a certain someone?” I blushed, looking down at the lacy black dress I was wearing, like it was my first time noticing it. I have spent the last five minutes staring at myself in the mirror, and loving the way the dress hugged my curves. Which I didn’t know I had until now. “This old thing?” I scoffed, going back in to grab a jacket, just in case it’s windy outside. The temperature tends to drop at night, and I was watching the weather channel on my phone earlier. Raven laughed, shaking her head at me. “Really, Alexia? How come this is the first time I've seeing it?” “Ladies, please tell me we have come up with a way to fix our car…” Jinx paused, her eyes sweeping over me. “Wow Lexie, you look really hot.” I blushed, clutching the jacket to my chest. “Thank you, why aren’t you dressed for the party?” I inquired, frowning at her outfit. “Because I’m not coming. Earlier, I promi
ALEXIA Walking down the mall aisle with Killian, I looked at him from the coroner of my eyes. Half resting on the shopping cart, as he pushed it along. He stopped when I did, leaning over to check the next item on the list. He was oddly invested, causing me to wonder if he had ever done it before. Turning my full attention on him, I watched him silently. Guilt stirred up inside me when I realized I hadn't asked him how he was doing. He was in isolation for six months with no contact with any of us—as far as I can tell. Zeke said the assassins could be anyone, therefore Alpha Damon cut off all forms of communication with him. Suddenly, I became aware of his eyes on me. I jerked, flustered by the fact that he caught me red-handed. Sneaking my hand up my hair, I pretend to be looking for the next item on the list. I should probably have checked the list before doing that, because I could just feel his eyes burning holes on my face. Filled with a sense of relief that he didn’t comm
ALEXIA No sooner than I entered my room, a knock came through the door. Storming my feet all the way to the door, I adjusted my facial expression before I opened the door. Raven stood on the other side, her hands fisted into her pocket. “The head of house wants us downstairs for a dorm meeting.” She informed me. “Couldn’t they email whatever they have to say to us?” Jinx groaned, dragging herself through the lounge, she missed the entrance like twice already. I didn’t blame her though. If I had fall into bed before Raven came knocking, then I’d be dragging myself across the room like a zombie. “Give me a mintue to wash my face, I just came back from class and from Leo’s tryouts.” I shut the door, letting out a groan. “And yes, he made the team, if anyone is interested.” I got two week ‘yay’ back. I chuckled. Grabbing face towel and reopening the door. Raven was talking to one of the housemates, only two have showed up, we are expecting the last by the end of the week. We don’t
ALEXIA My first lecture on campus wasn’t so bad, except that Killian was back at the forefront of my mind. It had taken a lot to even fall asleep last night as I kept replaying the hug we shared over and over in my head. A part of me wished he would be the same Killian from high school. You know, the one that hated me and avoided me? But this new Killian, I don’t know how to deal with him or us, and it’s stressing me a great deal. Exiting the building, I shut my eyes briefly, enjoying the wind in my face and hair. After spending several hours in the lab all day, I wanted nothing more than to return to the dorm and fall on my bed. But I couldn’t do that since I promised Leo I would be at his tryout. Sometimes I wished I wasn’t so nice. When he asked us earlier, Raven had no issue saying no. Her reasons? She doesn’t find tryouts entertaining. I almost said no, but then Leo went on about how much he could rely on me… blah, blah, blah. There were fewer people on the bench as I arrive
KILLIAN As my skin starts to burn, I knew then that I was going to fucking pass out. Wrenching myself away from her, with my breath laboured and bent over like someone about to throw up. I searched my pocket for my emergency inhaler, talking my back to her to use it. Several minutes tickled by before the world around me starts to make sense again. Acting unphased by what just happened, even though I was still a mess inside, I turned my attention back on her. She was staring back at me, her deep brown eyes filled with concern. Her full lips parted, like she was about to say something. I tensed, but the words never came. Fiddling with her finger, something she does whenever she is nervous. There was a long pause between us, that was broken by the entrance door opening. Looking over my shoulder as a girl dragged her stuff into the lounge. Realizing she had company, she stopped, her eyes moving curiously from me to Alexia. “Oh…hi.” Said the girl, waving at us with her fingers. “I was
ALEXIA “Whoa…” was the first thing out of my mouth when we stepped into the third floor dorm room. Where I will be living for the next months, at least until I go home for the holidays. Eclipse itself is huge, the school building being a literal modern castle. There’s a mini estate inside the huge landscape that primarily consists of living arrangements. Like boys quarters housing provided for teachers, it stood separately from the students living quarters. Back when we took a tour on campus-day, my eyes had remained wide during the whole tour. Raven had joked that if they expanded any larger, they might pop. Which had earned several chuckles from our tour guard and friends. “Now, I can see myself living here.” Jinx remarked, looking over at us. “I’m taking that room!” Raven called dipped, running across the room. Since I didn’t want to take the one closest to the hallway, I raced toward the second room. Jinx rolled her eyes at us, before carefully deciding which room to go with
