Maya had fallen asleep not long after we got home.I took her to Lily’s room, where her friends were already settling in for the night. They all decided to stay over together.

She looked peaceful now too peaceful, like she’d finally shut herself off from everything. I knew it wasn’t real rest. Her eyes had been red, her hands trembling. I hated that tonight had gone the way it did. I’d wanted her to feel like part of the pack… instead, she’d been treated like a stranger.

I tucked the blanket around her shoulders, brushing a few strands of hair from her face.

“I’m sorry, Maya,” I whispered softly. “You didn’t deserve that.”

Nyx stirred faintly through the bond, protective but tired.

Take care of her, Liam. She’s still fragile.

“I will,” I promised, then quietly left the room.

Downstairs, the packhouse was dim. Only a few lamps were on in the sitting room, and my parents were waiting there , Dad with a glass of whiskey, Mum sitting stiffly on the couch, her expression unreadable.

Dad lo

The next morning, before training, Roseline met me outside the pack house. She had that mischievous smile she always wore when she had something interesting to show.“Come on,” she said, tugging my arm. “There’s somewhere I want to take you before we begin.”I followed her across the training grounds, past the gardens, and into the western side of the territory where the air felt older, like time had forgotten this part of the pack. The house we stopped in front of was covered in ivy, the wooden walls cracked and faded. “What is this place?” I asked, brushing my fingers along the dusty railing.Roseline glanced at me, her expression softening. “My parents told me your mom used to stay here,” she said quietly. “When she was young—before she… disappeared.”I froze, my heart thudding. “She lived here?”Roseline nodded. “Yeah. They said her powers became noticeable around that time. She used to train near the woods behind this house.”I stepped inside slowly. The air smelled faintly of lav

It’s been weeks since Maya left, and nothing feels the same. The house feels colder, emptier. Every morning, I wake up half expecting her soft laugh to echo down the hall—but it never comes. My wolf, Jack, is restless. He paces inside me, growling low, missing NYX so badly it hurts."You need to see her," Jack rumbles in my mind."We can’t. She’s where she needs to be," I remind him."And we’re not?" he snaps back, bitterly.I sigh, rubbing my temples. The paperwork on my desk blurs. Being Alpha feels heavier these days, too many meetings, too many whispers, too much pretending I’m fine when I’m falling apart inside. Then the door slams open. Zack strides in, his face pale and tense.“Liam,” he says, his voice tight, “we’ve got a problem.”I look up, instantly alert. “What happened?”He hesitates, running a hand through his hair. “Lia’s back… and her mother’s with her.”My chair screeches back as I stand, heart pounding. “What?”“She just arrived at the border. The guards confirmed it.

The sound of metal clashing echoed through the air as we approached the training grounds. It was bigger than any field I’d ever seen — warriors, witches, and even hybrids moving in perfect coordination. Some trained hand-to-hand, while others practiced channeling magic into their strikes. The ground pulsed faintly beneath my feet, carrying the rhythm of their power.“Whoa,” I breathed, my eyes wide. “This is… incredible.”Adeline smiled proudly. “Told you. This is Crescent Veil. Everyone here works together, no matter what blood runs through them.”My gaze was drawn to a particular sparring circle in the middle of the field. The crowd had formed a wide ring around two fighters, and even from a distance, I could feel the intensity. One of them, a tall, broad-shouldered man , moved with lethal grace, his punches fast, controlled, powerful. The other warrior barely managed to block before being thrown flat onto the dirt.“Who’s that?” I asked, unable to look away.Adeline grinned. “That’

The next morning, sunlight streamed gently through the curtains, waking me up. I stretched, still feeling a bit groggy from yesterday’s long trip, then took a quick shower and got dressed in a simple white top and jeans. As I made my way downstairs, a delicious smell caught my attention — eggs, bacon, freshly baked bread. My stomach growled immediately. Following the scent, I found myself at the kitchen doorway. When I stepped inside, Blade was already at the dining table, sipping his coffee. The Alpha and Luna were there too, along with their children, chatting quietly. Alpha tristian sat at the head of the table, reading a few papers while a young girl and a boy laughed softly nearby.“Good morning ,” I greeted shyly, stepping inside. All heads turned toward me. The Luna’s face instantly lit up. “Maya! You’re awake. Come, join us, dear.”“Good morning, Maya,” Blade said with a smile. “You finally made it before the coffee finished.”I chuckled lightly and took a seat beside him. “

The day had finally arrived. My heart felt like it was being ripped apart piece by piece as I zipped up my suitcase. Every corner of my room carried a memory — laughter, tears, late-night talks. I ran my fingers over the window frame one last time before picking up my bags and heading downstairs.Liam and Zack were already waiting by the door. Liam’s eyes softened when he saw me.“You ready?” he asked quietly.I nodded, though my throat felt tight. “As ready as I’ll ever be.”Zack gave me a small smile. “You’ll be fine, Maya. Just… don’t forget about us when you become some all-powerful ancient wolf, okay?”I laughed softly. “I could never forget you guys.”The drive to the airport was quiet, the kind of silence that said everything words couldn’t. When we arrived, I stepped out and looked around, realizing this was it. My goodbye.Liam walked closer, his voice low. “Call me the second you land, got it?”“I will,” I promised, smiling faintly. “And don’t worry too much, okay? I’ll be s

That night, sleep just wouldn’t come. My mind wouldn’t stop racing, flashes of my mother’s face, her silver hair, the whisper I couldn’t quite make out. The dinner with Liam had been beautiful, but even his warmth couldn’t quiet the storm inside me.“You’re overthinking again,” Nyx’s voice echoed softly in my mind.“I can’t help it,” I whispered, glancing out the window at the moon. “What if the Crescent Veil pack knows something about her… something Liam or my father hid?”“Then we’ll find out,” Nyx replied firmly. “You’re not that scared little girl anymore.”I exhaled, grabbed my jacket, and decided to go for a run. The cold air hit my face as soon as I stepped outside, sharp, fresh, grounding. My wolf stirred eagerly beneath my skin.“Ready?”“Always.”We took off into the woods, the world blurring into streaks of silver and black. Running with Nyx always helped. It made me feel whole, wild, free, and untouchable. But tonight, even the wind couldn’t clear the weight in my chest.Wh
