The carriage ride back to the palace felt longer than it should have. Every time the wheels bumped over a stone or a rut, my heart jumped—not from the motion, but from anticipation. After everything we’d been through, after Shadow Pack, after the revelations about my mother, it almost felt unreal that I was heading back to the place I had once feared, the place I was meant to stand beside Liam as his mate and crown princess.

I stared out the window, tracing the familiar walls of the palace in the distance. The air smelled faintly of flowers blooming in the palace gardens, and I could see the guards moving in disciplined lines along the perimeter. Everything seemed perfect. Controlled. And yet, my stomach twisted with unease.

“This is it,” Liam said quietly from the driver’s seat, breaking my thoughts. He reached over, his hand brushing mine. “Soon, everything changes.”
